So, for those who have done this lukcy dip before, is there ANY method to getting an upgrade? Does getting there early for your tickets help at all, or is it completely random?

Cool, thanks. Just saw it myself in the little dropdown. Well, I'll cross my fingers, but for 40 bucks I'm just glad to be there.

So I went ahead and just did the lucky dip thing for 2 tix, and got'em for Dallas. All I see is Lucky Dip section, price level 5. Is there any way to see what seats I got at this point, or is there a lottery on day of the show for this kind of thing?

Some of these were mentioned, but I had to second them- 1.It might get Loud 2.The Compleat Beatles- out of print I think, but very concise and informative 3.The Last Waltz 4.Bittersweet motel - Phish tour doc, even if you are not a fan it is a great snapshot of a working band

Loudness is not the volume, but the average amplitude of the the sound wave. When you hear music, there are things like drum hits that stick out for an instant, or the singer saying a T or P sound in a word. These are the peak sounds of a sound wave, that occur for such a short period of time they aren't really notice by your ears/brain. Your ears and brain basically hear the average volum

One thing I want to bring up is that downloading a bootleg is still technically taking money from the artists. Yes, the recording is not official, so it is not able to be purchased in a store, but the songwriting royalties are not paid out. Everyone seems to have no problem with the distribution of concerts without having to pay the writers of the songs. That is illegal, but no one looks at it th

Got the show and I am about halfway through it. I like it a lot, though I never would have picked it for a release with so much great vintage material in the vaults. It is what it is, very 80s. Bad synth sounds, too much reverb at points, very polished, very trebley and not much warmth. Just like a lot of 80s material. I've always thought that if you could mix steel wheels from the multi

Thanks for posting the video. What did those guys want Mick to do for them that they got so mad about? For that matter, why are so many on this board so negative about yesterday? They never said it would be anything but an appearance to mark the 50th anniversary, yet some people get so upset that a tour wasn't announced, they didn't start playing their favorite song right there, or d

I got love you live as a gift when all I'd heard to that point was the 60s stuff and steel wheels. I thought it was terrible at first, I just didn't get the sound they were making on this tour. Then I bought a couple 70s albums, and started liking it. I got Exile, and at first I didn't like the studio Tumbling Dice because I'd started to really like the one on LYL. Someone ea

I put all my music on DVD-rs in FLAC a few years ago, then as hard drives have gotten so cheap I bought 2 and have it all on there and a backup drive. I had many old CD-rs also with no issues, but I stored them pretty well. I have never experienced CD-rot, but I think the hard drive is the best way to go, with a backup of course. I love having everything in one place, I have virtually no space us

Didn't mean they were meant to save an industry, just a simple way to re-sell the same product in a different packaging, since the files are large but no more difficult to sell. Agree completely with your other points

It was Beggar's Banquet. I was so impressed with the 2002 remastering of the album I thought I would see if it sounded even better, and it is my favorite album from the Abkco era. I'm pretty sure it was 24/88 that I got. I didn't hear any difference between it and the regular CD. I assumed maybe I needed a better setup or better headphones to hear it, but this article as well as

24 bit vs 16 bit myth This is an interesting article, it talks about whether 24/96 is actually any better than 16/44.1. It discusses sampling rate as well as bit depth. In some ways the conclusion is that higher could be worse. I personally have done some a/b testing with stones cds versus one HD-tracks album I bought, and I did not hear it as better. A friend showed me this article and I thou

It never fails. "Open the vaults, please let us get this material anyway we can it!" "okay, vaults opening with 5 new live releases and a second batch of studio outtakes" "Download only!?!? Overdubbed new vocals!?!? You must hate your fans."

If a few thousand people will only buy it on a physical CD, but 5000 people will buy it only as a download because they don't have record stores anywhere to go to, then download wins out. FLAC is perfect CD quality. There are any number of free programs that will burn the flac file to an audio CD which is playable in your stereo. It will sound exactly the same as a pressed CD because FLAC is

Flac is a lossless compression. The file ends up being between 40-60% the size of a wav file and NO information is gone. Think of it like a .rar or .zip file, the files are 100% intact, just compressed for size. Apple lossless, and Windows Media Lossless are about the same size, also 100% wav quality. FLAC has become the standard for downloads though. Converting to wav from flac for a cd burn, o

I was just thinking the other day, if you could request 3 stones albums be remixed as well as remastered, what would they be? Fantasy world, you can pick your own producers, dead, alive, from 30-40 years ago. I say that because many hate Don Was' style, so imagine you could have anyone do it. My choices- 1.Steel Wheels. I often think this album has very good songs on it, but the producti

I read the mick is welcome line in a less aggressive manner. Keith just saying that the band need to rehearse together, go over some warhorses and oldies if it's a tour, rehearse and jam to write songs if it's an album. Mick doesn't need to rehearse brown sugar, and he might not want to show up to write songs until the band has something of substance. But if he wants to come and ge

All Beatles albums were released in mono and stereo from the start. When they were releasing them on CD in 1987, George Martin felt the stereo releases should be used from Help on, with mono being used for the early albums. But he felt that the Help and Rubber Soul mixes that they made in 65 were too gimmicky, the instruments too spread out and it didn't sound right in a modern context. So h

I think arguments can be made for the October 1961 date, the Date Brian had the ad in the paper for the band, the date (known or not) that Mick and Keith walked in to meet Brian and Stu, and of course the first gig in July of 62. To me, saying it's not the stones until Charlie and Bill join is no different than saying that the Stones ended when Bill quit. Mick and Keith ARE the Stones, an

My wife and I had our first dance to "that's how strong my love is" as someone else mentioned. Not an original, but it is a top 5 Mick vocal performance on a studio song in my opinion. I wanted something stones, my wife picked it and it was a perfect choice. Plus, since I am not one to enjoy having everyone I know stare at me while I do something I'm no good at (dancing) it

For taylor era- start with Brussels- 10/17/73. Get the definitive disc here, IORR user UrbanSteel has many posted from this era (and every era)- UrbanSteel POsts Those are all in flac, which is full CD lossless quality. Check it out on wikipedia for the details, but it basically stores a cd in half the space with no loss in quality like an MP3. If you don't care about those types of detail

It seems your problem then was the using of flac, mp3, AAC and not WAV. I would suggest that you can burn it on the fastest speed with no issues. It will save you some time and there will be no difference in quality. Matt

If you want cheap, the digitech bad monkey, hot head, and blues pedal (forget the name) are easy to find on ebay and include a mixer out that eliminates the harshness you will get with a regular pedal direct. Guitar amp speakers naturally eliminate this with their eq curve, so you need something that will have some sort of speaker cabinet simulation or it will sound HORRIBLE. POD xt live and t

First song I remember is get off of my cloud. My parents had December's Children and Through the Past Darkly on 8 track and then we had High Tide, Green Grass on LP. I was about 6 and I used to listen to that record ALL the time, and still have it hung up on my wall. My parents lost the 8 tracks, but then my dad told me he had a couple other records when I was probably 8 or 9 and I found beg

I have to agree with the comment about over-worship of Jerry. Especially in his later days when his voice was shot and everything was played at 75% of the song's real tempo, it just dragged and wasn't inspiring at all. My first post re: Waits and Cohen brought a comment about Jeff buckley- yeah, I don't get him at ALL, and I think if he hadn't died he'd have about half

Leonard Cohen- to me every song is the same and the melody just modulates up when he changes to a higher chord, then back down, and it's very boring. Tom Waits- agree with those who say his act seems forced
