One that's near to my heart is Athens, GA : Inside/Out. Takes a look at the unique music scene in Athens that spawned some great bands like REM, The B-52's, Pylon, Love Tractor and more. It has some flaws, but it's worth a look.

Agreed - I love that doc. "Party Out Of Bounds", a great book documenting the late '70s-early '80s Athens scene came out about 20 years ago and is definitely worth seeking out. Also, Inside/Out will be reissued on DVD and CD on Oct. 9th - very much looking forward to it!

Thanks JuanTCB, I just ordered it from Amazon. I was in Athens going to college during that time, lots of great memories of music and fun.

Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story is absolutely phenomenal.

YES.

I don't recall if it was in the DVD Extras or not, but the interviews with the band
in regards to the fallout following MLK's death are heartbreaking.

"Fearless Freaks" w/ Flaming Lips is very good.
I had forgotten about Tom Petty "Runnin Down.." what a great flic it was. I cant believe they had people filming them all the way back.
The Harry Nilsson film is special.

If anyone can tell me how to get a copy of MC5 "true Testimonial" I'm on it.

Some of these were mentioned, but I had to second them-

1.It might get Loud
2.The Compleat Beatles- out of print I think, but very concise and informative
3.The Last Waltz
4.Bittersweet motel - Phish tour doc, even if you are not a fan it is a great snapshot of a working band

In addition to Tom Petty's Runnin Down a Dream and The Who's The Kids Are Alright I also recommend Bruce Springsteen's Blood Brothers and Queen's Days of Our Lives.
