How do you store your boots, do you put them in paper sleeves, have it on harddrive or cases. Me I put mine in paper sleeves to save room which I dont have really. I dont store on my pc as you could get a virus and everything is gone.

I store mine in slim jewells, inside boxes(various sizes),i like the jewell boxes for strength& support(since i have a few 1000 cds..)my favorite are the staples brand cuz the box is great, holds 100 &easy to move around due to the boxes handle...once i burn,i delete...

I use the paper sleeves to store my DATA on DVD's (TY brand), I use a utility called "Directory Lister" and print what's on each DVD & put that inside of the sleeve, the Music DVD's i either store in the plastic cases with artwork or in the paper sleeves as well... at last count I have over 4500 Music/Data DVD's... I also have 12 Ext HD of varying capacity

If they're on CDR you'd be wise to back them up on a hard drive.
Those things can become non-readable at any time.

I've the essential ones on CDR and DVD, but everything on my PC, backed up by an external hard drive. So it must be safe I guess. Thank god I mainly collect shows and videos from the Taylor era!

Ha! Munich...

Yes I do, 30+ years as a matter of fact!
about 5-6 years ago I was looking for a simpler and less expensive way to store all
my DVD's & took notice of a certain Oil Filter case, YEP... these work perfectly!

God forbid we have a solar flare rendering all digital media useless!

I also do the 'computer'-'hard drive'-CD R thing.

I even store the external harddrive at the office, in the event of catastrophe!

I dont bother with the hard drive and just store on CD-R. If you use a quality CDR then you have nothing to worry about. Taiyo-Yuden discs (made in Japan) are pretty inexpensive and VERY high quality. I get mine from www.supermediastore.com.

CD-rot doesn't happen anymore. It occured when discs were manufactured poorly and the process has advanced significantly since then, even for budget CDRs.

That said, there' nothing wrong with backing up your stuff!

All my cd´s are AUDIO cd´s only,in jewel cases with artworks. Some are in 4cd set´s,mainly if shows were played in 2 nights.

2cd´s are nicely in 2cd cases,with artwork ofcourse,i don´t save files on coputer,and i don´t listen files either.To me its not music,they´re files,once they´re on audio-cdr and i listen them loud from my music system,then its music!

A mixture of DVD, CD and whole lot of MP3 files. All backed up to an external HDD. I've lost several boot CDs over the years that have just stopped working so ripping them to a HDD is essential for me.

One important factor for degrading a cd-r is light.
It's a matter of which kind of dye is used for the recording layer.
Most cd-r's use cyanine dye which isn't very stable towards light.
But there are better ones around: AZO dye, for example, is a lot more stable.
This is used with certain Verbatim cd-r's which I use mostly.
For my most precious recordings I mostly used Kodak Gold cd-r's which also
use a more light resistant dye. Sadly these are not sold anymore.

But in any case you'll have your cd-r's intact much longer if you
store them away and minimize exposition to light.

I put all my music on DVD-rs in FLAC a few years ago, then as hard drives have gotten so cheap I bought 2 and have it all on there and a backup drive. I had many old CD-rs also with no issues, but I stored them pretty well. I have never experienced CD-rot, but I think the hard drive is the best way to go, with a backup of course. I love having everything in one place, I have virtually no space used for storage either.
