Lady Jane I'm shocked at how "forgotten" this track is. (One other vote so far) This has got to be one of their best songs/performances ever. The mood of the thing. Brian at his peak.

If The Who could replace Entwistle without missing a beat, the Stones could and would easily replace Woody. I hate to say it, but with that much money on the line, they would probably finish the tour even if one of the original three dropped out (not Mick)

Have you ever been to a show where the artist refused to play warhorses, and favored new material instead? George Harrison did it in '74. He didn't play many Beatle numbers (and then would mess with them: "While My Guitar Gently SMILES!") or even his more popular solo stuff (Actually lectured the audience when someone shouted out a request for "Bangla Desh") in o

NOW is the time for them to release stuff in the vaults!!! What are they waiting for?? In a few more years their original fans will be on a "fixed income." Right now, I've got the money to buy it. In another 20 years I might have to decide between buying that or food/medicine!

Mick asked that question to the Forum audience on the 13th, and then noted that Billy went to church on Sunday. And then sort of taunted him about it. Five years later I met a lady who played piano in an LA church, and she told me that Preston would go to Sunday services when he was in town, and that one time he brought some of the Stones with him! She couldn't say which ones (cause s

Chelsea, that post was perfect! In LA L&G opened in Century City. HUGE screen, with quad sound pumped out of amps that were stacked to the ceiling! It was like going to a concert! Jagger was amazing in that film...there are moments that are frozen in time that I still can recall--dancing as the horns blare away during the finish of All Down the Line--a look exchanged with Keith as the

Christgau is certainly his own man. I believe he was the guy who panned Sgt. Pepper, saying it would lead to a lot of pretentious excess. And he was right about that. It was weird in '78 when Rolling Stone gave a thumbs down to Some Girls--especially since they had given high marks to some of the previous LPs that were of dubious quality. From their point of view, there was nothing to &

I've been reading Robert Hilburn in the LA Times since '71, and while he often gets it dead right, I think he's full of crap most of the time. The Times attitude about the Stones has been generally dismissive over the last 30 years, but ol' Bob almost never goes on record himself. His biggest trick is being The Rock Star's Best Pal. When a major group puts out a l

Actually I credit Page & Co. for breaking up after Bonham died. Unlike The Who going on after Moon (and now Entwhistle!) it recognizes that Bonzo was the foundation of their sound. At Live Aid, the reunited 3 (+ 2 drummers) did not call themselves "Led Zeppelin" That's class.

The worst Stones albums are the crappy ones that follow the great ones: Goat's Head Soup-- (Yeah, I know I bunch of you love it--and even give it an "A".If that's the case how do you rate Let It Bleed?? Led Zep had some pretty tough management. This was one band that was NOT going to get ripped off--even if it did some of it's own ripping in the process. The Bill Graham book talks about how Bill's guys got the crap beat out of them by Zep's crew backstage when they played Oakland. Peter Grant portrayed himself as a gangster in The Song Remains The Same. It wasn't too fa

Do you mean 1969 Live Peace in Toronto? That was Plastic Ono Band (including Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman, and Alan White.) Elephant's Memory was the band John used in '72 for Sometime in New York City. Chip Can we at least admit that there have been ups and downs? My point is: from JJF through Exile it was a continuous UP. I think that GHS was a letdown after Exile. Then there were two more albums (which, like GHS had some highlights) that were basically also letdowns. Then a double-live letdown. Some Girls was a return to form--no argument there. (And a lot of credit goes to

Sorry to burst your bubble kids, but face it, GHS is DOA There could have been a great album there...it just didn't turn out that way. (Some of the best Tattoo You tracks were GHS outtakes) Don't you think the Stones would have kept Jimmy Miller on board if they didn't think he botched this one? Next to Bitch or Rocks Off, Star Star is pretty flat-footed. This is an

I don't understand the infatuation with Winter. It's sort of like Moonlight Mile II with the strings and everything. The lyrics don't add up to much. Yes, Taylor's solo is nice, but it doesn't save what is basically a pointless song. I suspect that--like Sway--it's appeal is based more on the fact that it isn't a warhorse. Goats Head Soup was

I always imagined that at this point the Stones would have scaled down. Musically, they would be playing more blues. And Mick would have shed his "Jumpin Jack Flash" persona--which got even bigger as they played stadiums--and go back to his old, early style (like TAMI show) of a marraca-shaking menacing figure standing at the mic stand. But hey, as long as he can still do JJF,

The version of Breathe on Me on Slide on This has a different writing credit, as I recall. That is one song that deserves some airplay/recognition. The Womack anthology john r mentioned is great! The best Ronnie album by a country mile is "NOW LOOK" While the first album has some incredible tracks (I Can Feel the Fire, Mystifies Me) it kind of falls apart in places (Crotch Music). NOW LOOK doesn't have those loose ends. In fact, by accident or design, it's practically a concept album! From the first song, I Got Lost When I Found You til I Got a Feeling, the last

I saw the first show at Anaheim in '78 (the day before the "shoe" one) and I didn't think it was very good. They played in daylight, and there were no video screens back in those days. (As much as I hate watching television at a concert, without it most people in a stadium are watching a trained flea act!) The sound wasn't good either. The time between songs was s

The point I was trying to make about the photo, when Ronnie changed from grin to grim, is that HE LOST HIS IDENTITY WHEN HE BECAME A STONE!! There was something so ALIVE about his playing...listen to the intro of I Can Feel the Fire...it has more spirit, more passion, than anything on, no make that the ENTIRE IORR album combined! So does another song from the same year: Bill Wyman's b

Dancing in the Street works best in the context of the video. The way those two old pros work off each other reminds me of a clip of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin horsing around on Dean's show in the 60's. It was just two pals having a lot of fun.
