QuoteMadMax This is a holy grail for me since around 2004, I've never come across it in a record store but I sure would love to have it. Love this record. "My Baby Gives It Away" got a fair amount of FM radio airplay when it was released, but it is correct to say that the album wasn't a big commercial hit. Yes, that's Charlie playing on that song (and Ronnie

QuoteRollingFreak QuoteJavadave Dylan’s out because of his Frankfurt gig, but there will probably be some notable unannounced guests. Ronnie and Ringo would be cool. Ronnie WOODS. God I miss Bill Graham. I never knew why he called Ronnie that multiple times on The Last Waltz. I knew a guy whose last name was Wood, and he said it was a common mistake for someone to call him "Woods."

I was struck by the fact that five--six if you consider "Honky Tonk Women" as a close enough version of "Country Honk"-- of the songs from this show came from the Let It Bleed album. After all these years of EOMS hoopla, is it time to reconsider this as the Stones' greatest album?

Walton was standing right behind me as I entered the Long Beach Terrace Theater for a Bob Dylan show two years ago. I didn't want to bother him, but I watched how gracious he was to total strangers who approached him during the minute or so while going through security, getting ticket scanned, etc. It sounded like one guy who said they had a mutual friend was proposing some sort of busine

I saw a listing in the Collector's Choice Music catalog for the new Humble Pie "Winterland '73" album saying that the CD version includes a bonus studio recording of "Bluestalk" by Steve Marriott and Brian Jones. The notion that Jones would have joined Humble Pie after he left the Stones always seemed like random speculation to me. Interesting to see that there

I used to be annoyed at all the politics and gate-keeping when Jann Wenner and Robbie Robertson ran the show. Whoever is in charge now has no sense of what Rock n' Roll is at all. None. It was a much better operation when it was an informal gathering, and you watched clips of it on Entertainment Tonight, etc. When it became an entire TV show the selections became programmed for wha

QuoteElmo Lewis I know absolutely nothing of the technical aspects, I just know the album sounds muffled (for lack of a better word). Maybe dull. In an interview when the album was first released, Keith made a comment about "F**kin' Dolby's!" so I'm assuming he was aware of the issue.

Frankly, I like seeing those old clips that provide some context of what the world was like when the Stones began. How else can a young person get any idea of what their impact was at the time? And I like Skelton. He was a funny guy.

When the rock scene was getting "heavy" the Raspberries were one of the few bands who steered against the tide and dove back into making AM hits. They were Power Pop before the term was invented. It would be a few years before showing off your influences would become a thing. Despite their hit singles, (and even though their fourth album, Starting Over, was cited by Rolling Stone

When I saw the headline I thought it was about a member of the band Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, which got itself on the cover of the Rolling Stone by recording a song called exactly that! It's Dr. Hook in Slap Shot! What a classic. My friends and I saw it at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood when it opened in '77, and we laughed so hard that I have this vivid memory of my sides

Quote24FPS It will never have rock credibility. Where is Jethro Tull? When I was in high school 50 years ago Jethro Tull was HUGE and were all over FM Album Rock stations...popularity wise, they were considered rivals of Led Zeppelin. While they never were my thing, I liked a handful of their songs (like "Inside", "Living In the Past" "Skating Away" "Aqu

Quotebakersfield Break The Spell, filler? I respectfully disagree. A terrific, atmospheric blues and one of the highlights of SW for me. I agree. And I'll repeat my suggestion for anyone compiling a Stones mix: Do a segue from the Let It Bleed version of "Midnight Rambler" to "Break The Spell." A marvelous continuation of the mood of the first, even though the

I love--LOVE--Ian Hunter and was glad to see that he was back after cancelling the second part of the "Mott The Hoople '74" reunion tour due to hearing issues. But frankly, I'm a little let down by this release. Ian has released a string of amazing albums in the last twenty-five years ago that have contained work that equals or surpasses anything he has ever done. T

I originally bought "Carl and the Passions, So Tough" because KRLA (back during their early '70's "Future Rock" format, in which they had their own singular alternative universe playlist that programmed songs no one else did) played "He Come Down" every night like it was a hit single... The white gospel sound reminds me of "Shine A Light" a

Mick Ralph's "I'm A Cadillac/El Camino Dolo Roso" is one of the overlooked gems on this album (The original U.S. pressing messed up and only printed partial lyrics inside the gatefold sleeve). I love the way the backing vocals sound when they sing "Love is Straaaange!" at about 50 seconds in. Another highlight for me is Ian's phrasing and the mandolins o

The Mott The Hoople Live album was kneecapped when CBS cut it down a single disc album, instead of the two record set that the band originally wanted. It has been reissued--twice--as a 2 CD set that has both the Broadway and Hammersmith shows. One is called the "Expanded Deluxe Edition" and the other is the "30th Anniversary Edition." Same tracks, but the 30th Anni

Quotekovach QuoteJimmyTheSaint Should be rechristened the “Popular Music Hall of Fame”. They have insisted on several inductions a year and have pretty much run out of worthy acts. Mariah Carey??? That ain’t Rock n roll. R&R isn’t what it used to be and it’s unlikely it ever will be again. The kids today don’t get it. Agree completely. Rock is wasted on the young.
