Quoteslewan somehow (but only somehow) Ringo seems to be The Beatles' equivalent to Ronnie Wood… At the end of The Last Waltz both made micro-appearance cameos--just brief close-ups during the group finale--that got them listed in the promotion alongside all the other artists who were spotlighted as they performed their own songs. They didn't really add much other than representing t

Jimmy Miller and I were mixing “You Got the Silver” and he had the idea of putting reverse echo on the lead guitar. This is achieved by turning the tape upside down and playing it backwards while putting echo on the gu

Glyn Johns has been around since the very beginning and personally knows the Stones as people. He was right there working and sweating with them as they made their classics, so it's not like he's awe-struck by these "legends" the way I imagine someone like Don Was would be. For that very reason (and the great sound he gets in the studio) I wish he would work with them aga

QuoteBig Al Quoteloog droog Mick, Keith and Ronnie ought to call themselves "The Stones" when they tour. Drop the "Rolling" part of the name, and then just keep rollin' on... No! When I attended Hyde Park, i attended a most fabulous Rolling Stones concert. As long as there’s Mick and Keith, in my opinion, it’s the band. Not that long ago the mantra was, "

Respect, admiration, and appreciation for the life and work of Lamont Dozier. Every time a H-D-H song is being played it has enhanced the moment for me, whether I've been actively listening or just hearing it in the background from someone else's radio. Music taken to a higher plane, creating a shared experience of elevation for us lucky listeners. Condolences to his family and a

QuoteHairball Or...imagine if in 1969 Brian took an extended sabbatical to clean up and clear his head, and then eventually came back after Mick Taylor quit the band in 1974. There was a short-lived humor magazine in the 70's that tried to compete with National Lampoon called Apple Pie. In issue #7 (January '76) there is an article written in the style of a People magazine featu

A great album, for sure. Produced by Jimmy Miller. When you look at what became of the line-up of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends...Mad Dogs and Englishmen, All Things Must Pass, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs...and Bobby Keyes and Jim Price playing for the Rolling Stones, Delaney and Bonnie are the cornerstones of an entire era of classic rock.

Frankly, I always hated seeing fireworks at the end of a Stones show. I thought they functioned like an "Applause!" sign at a TV show taping. Used to goose a response out of the crowd. Pandering to a crowd coming for spectacle--not music--who couldn't name all the Stones if asked. For people desiring a sensory experience, the new trend instead of fireworks is drone li

Quotehbwriter At 2:13 we see Mick Ali McGraw (Steve McQueen in is the house, too). A bearded McQueen--who can be seen on Ali's left, and later again at 2;42--would normally be the coolest guy in the house. But that night the award goes to Mr. James Cagney--Hollywood's O.G. QuotePalace Revolution 2000 Who is Dean Goodman? Was he the Vjay on MTV? The guy who ruined Live Aid for me? You're thinking of Mark Goodman, the "bro" of the original five MTV V-J's. I'm trying to think of how he could have "ruined" Live-Aid, other than just being the proto-typical Jock who liked Rock that he always was. Mark was the only person on

I love "Tops" and Mick Taylor's work on it. But I can't see how it launches a "Beatles vs. Stones" argument. "Tops" isn't obscure because the Beatles catalog took all the wind out of the room. More likely the reason is because of the abundance of riches on Tattoo You, where it competed with "Start Me Up" "Waiting On A Friend"

QuoteDandelionPowderman Utterly brilliant! It's unfathomable that this has gained dust in a basement for so long. Other documentaries made from buried treasure like this have surfaced in the recent past, such as Message To Love: The Isle of Wight Festival 1970 (and then the one that followed with the entire set by The Who), the concert segments of the Muhammad Ali/George Foreman film

The guy is a kind of a doofus, and yet his admiration for old rock stars is easier to take than the over-the-top fawning of Jimmy Fallon. Corden's McCartney segment was really, really well done. If he could do a similar thing and take Mick and Keith through the old neighborhood I think it would make great viewing. "Hey look who's here...it's Andrew Oldham!"

Apparently the death rates from accidents are significantly higher in states with no helmet laws, and your chances of getting an organ donor are much more likely. I worked with a guy who did exactly that. He looked pretty sick and retir

Quote24FPS Doesn't he come from money? He started life on third base, and somehow he screwed it up. I just hope he has enough dough to not suffer his last years. His father Floyd was a cinematographer who worked on films like High Noon. Whether that means that David came "from money" and was born on third base is a matter of opinion. Maybe second base? 30 years ago I would
