Hi Shattered, Zeppelin have sold 105 million in the US alone. They've probably sold proportionally as well in Canada, probably 10 million. I know Zeppelin 4 hit the million mark here back in the 80's. Beatles and Elvis would be head and shoulders above everyone else, especially when you factor in 45 singles sold as well as LP's.

Wow, lots of inside information! Unfortunately, apart from a few die hard fans, most won't care, unless there's some screwups during the concerts. One would think that Mick/Keith would have final say as to who stays and who goes.

When I first heard the opening of this song, I immediately thought of the extras portion of the Gimme Shelter DVD where Mick is playing guitar backstage sitting with Ike and Tina Turner. Does anyone here know if he was playing an actual song there or just jamming?

I (seriously) think a decent replacement would be ex-G'n'R Izzy Stradlin. He was a good rhytmn guitar player and meshed well with Slash. As most here know, he and Axl joined the Stones for Salt of the Earth in Atlantic City 89. Probably knows alot of Stones songs already. Another good fit would probably be Rich Robinson or the other Black Crowes guitarist. Having said this, I agree

I first read about this in the book The First 20 Years by David Dalton. Here is the excerpt: When Pete Townshend was asked to comment on Brian's death, he said: "Oh, it's a normal day for Brian, like he died every day you know. "I used to know him quite well. Fairly well. I know alot about the vibes that were about. The Stones have always been a group that I really dug

I heard that alot of radio stations aren't playing New Orleans is Sinking out of respect for what's happening right now. I think that one reason the Hip aren't popular in the States is that their lyrics have alot of Canadian references which would be unknown to others? I remember in the early 90's they played Vancouver and did 3 sold out shows at the Pacific Coliseum, probab

Speaking of London venues, are Wembley Arena and Earl's Court sports arenas? If so, are there any hockey/basketball/etc. teams that play there? Are there any ice rinks in London?

Hey sdstonesguy. Good posts. I'm the guy you freaked out on in the Fats Domino thread! Hindsight is 20/20 and everyone is saying this or that should have been done. Bottom line is that they're doing the best job they can. A disaster of this magnitude hasn't been seen in the US before so it's basically all new, even to people trained for disaster response. I'm sure th

Hi CindyC. There have been alot of artists that I've discovered via the Stones. Chuck Berry (obviously) as well as Bo Diddley, JL Hooker, Otis, Temptations, etc. I saw a Bruce Springsteen interview where he said he got into Chuck Berry via the Stones. Alice Cooper's band in their early years did Marvin Gaye's Hitch Hike, but he said they were trying to sound like the Stones ver

According to Bill's Rolling With The Stones, there are over 60 cover versions of this tune. I'm not aware of any, other than Marianne's original version. I believe Mick wrote this song before he even met her. Is this the only Stones song that Andrew Loog is credited as a cowriter with Mick and Keith (not including any symphonic material from the mid 60's)?

Hi Cindy C. I can appreciate your view of "crying wolf". We're always seemingly inundated with "storm of the century" or "heatwave of the century" etc. However, after seeing the devastation Katrina did in Miami as a category 1 hurricane just a few days prior and then gaining huge strength/momentum over the gulf and making a bee line for New Orleans, how could

This was one of the very first songs Mick wrote, and only last year via the web, did I find the original version, As Time Goes By. I think I like that version better than the released version: Why do I feel so all alone? Was I a fool to leave my home? Smiling faces I can see, but not for me, I sit and watch as time goes by... This would be a good song for someone like Jewel to cover, similar

I realize Oscar's been around a long time, but back in the 40's, 50's etc., I don't think that albums sold that well, partly because there were only half as many people on earth as there are now. I checked the RIAA website and none of his albums/singles has even gone gold in the US. Unless Oscar has/had a massive following outside of North America, I don't see how he

Hi Davido. I thought that the ABKCO releases in 86 were North American only and that Europe had the London releases? Can anyone confirm? I ended up filling out my collection with the ABKCO releases like Now and December's Children. I was actually burning a mixed Stones CD tonight and I'll always use Ruby Tuesday from the London Hot Rocks 1 since it's a good stereo version and it

Hi Chippy. One thing I should have mentioned is that the RIAA and I believe all of the other countries counts a double album as 2 sold, since there's 2 discs. Therefore Physical is 15 times platinum but only 7.5 million people actually bought the disc, Hot Rocks 12 times platinum, 6 million actual buyers. Similar to how the 4 Flicks DVD is now 19 times platinum, which is easily the bigges

SonicDreamer, I agree what you say about DLR, the TRUE lead singer of the mighty Van Halen. If only he had rejoined them in 2004 for their reunion tour instead of Sammy. That tour would have done huge numbers. I saw VH with DLR in 81,82 and 84, when they were America's biggest rock band. Of course, they did open for the Stones in New Orleans 78 and Orlando 81 as has been discussed here s

RIAA.COM is the website for US sales. Hot Rocks is the biggest selling Stones album, 12 million sales. Zeppelin are at 107.5 million albums Streisand 70.5 million Aerosmith 65.5 million Stones 64.5 million With this new CD, the Stones will leapfrog Aerosmith and AC/DC. Hopefully there will be an increased demand for their back catalog as well. Zeppelin have the

Hey Davido, I bought the London Hot Rocks 1 back in 86 as an import at Sam The Record Man in Vancouver. I paid $29.99 for it! I also paid that much for the second disc. Arm and a leg back then. I managed to buy all the import London Stones collection around that time, including Rolling Stones 1, 12x5, Out of Our Heads, Between The Buttons, Aftermath, Beggars and Let It Bleed. As you know, thes
