Stones/Led Zeppelin connections

Other than the Stones, Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, I was just listening to Boogie With Stu. Great song, and it made me think, there are a lot of connections between the two bands. What are your favortie (or most obscure, etc.) Stones/Zeppelin moments? Off the top of my head I can think of:

* Ian Stewart plays on Boogie With Stu and Rock And Roll, the later being one of the best rock songs of all time

* Jimmy Page plays guitar on Through The Lonely Nights and One Hit To The Body

* Zeppelin recorded their 1976 album Presence in Musicland Studios in Munich. The Stones were scheduled to record there two weeks after Zeppelin arrived, so Zep worked 18 hour days and did the whole album in two weeks. Actually it was two weeks and two days - Page called Jagger up and asked for two extra days and Jagger agreed.

Page stayed up for the last two days straight, recording all the guitar overdubs to Achilles Last Stand (and there are about a million of them) in one night, and the guitar overdubs for the rest of the album the next day. The Stones were amazed they'd finished the whole album in two weeks and the guitar parts in two days. At that point the Stones had been working on Black And Blue for something like a year and a half!

* Page's reputation for being a miser rivals Jagger's. One year in the '70s, Page's present to the entire road crew was one bottle of whiskey. They nicknamed him "Led Wallet" (too heavy to take out of his pocket, apparently).

Didnt John Paul Jones produce some strings on some of the tracks that ended up on Metamorphosis? This is before his Zeppelin days of course.

JPJ arranged the strings for She's A Rainbow.
Plus, they both used Olympic Studios, Stargroves, the Stones Mobile,
Electric Ladyland Studios, plus some of the same engineers.
I think I read an interview with Page where he said the Stones
kind of snickered when hearing his use of backwards echo on the first
Zeppelin album, then found out it popped up on a few songs on Let It Bleed.
Plus the alternate lyrics in Star Star "Jimmy Page is quite a rage,
I could not see the reason why," which I think works better than
the verse on the album.

JPJ on She's A Rainbow, that's right. Re those alternate lyrics to Star Star, what's the story behind that? It was said playfully, I'm sure. I think Jagger was a bit jealous because the Stones and Zep were pretty much the two biggest touring acts of the '70s. Zeppelin was really the Stones' only rivals on the concert circuit in those days. I suppose The Who would be up there as well.

I thought that Houses of the Holy was recoreded using the the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio...I read that Stu had delivered it to some English country home that Zep was renting...Great disc Houses is!

Andy Johns worked with both bands.

Also, opening of Waiting On A Friend video was filmed at the building that's the cover of Physical Graffiti.

Ron Wood & Keith Richards worked with Zep on the Rover (this version didn't make it on the album).

Forgot about Knebworth in '79.
Is there a boot of that gig?
The Barbarians, I mean. I've heard the Zeppelin one.

Page said of Keith how you can forgive him for evrything thanks to Dance little sister. I agree. It moves and it shakes away the hard feelings.

Doesn't, Robert Plant sing or scream if you like, the first line of Child of the Moon. Sure sounds like him. I have a friend who swears its him but she offers no real proof.

Jimmy Page is featured on some, if not all of the Andrew Loog Orchestra tracks. He's certainly on the Metamorphisis version of Heart Of Stone.

Keith Richards once said he was quite into the first Led Zeppelin album when it was first released but the singer [i. e. Robert Plant] was really not of his taste, he made some real mean typical Keith-like remarks about him (like he has later done about the likes of Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John).
