Indeed. I was on iTunes and it appears five or six tracks from this album are on the 'Essential' compilation, but the whole album was great, not just a few tracks. Tunes like 'Windsurfer' were terrific. Some folks didn't like that Wilbury/ Jeff Lynne sound, and the album may be a little bit 80-s-sounding, but the tunes are just great, and I kept the cassette around, al

Was this not one of RO's best selling albums?? Anyone know why it is not in print currently? It's available, or findable, but it seems it is not in production. I wonder what the story is behind this. Perhaps it will be re-released sometime soon as a remaster? The latest one I saw out thhere is from '92. I loved this album... great stuff on there, and great band...

Just watching a bit of the Oscars, and one of the Plant/Krauss songs is already on a JC Penny ad. I've seen a LOT of great music lately on TV ads, and I hate it. Good way to ruin (or at least waste) a good song. Tunes By Plant/Krauss, Wilco, Kings of Leon, the Stones, the Who, all sold off to sell products. Somehow, when those tunes are in my cd player, they are less special if I've

I have to say I love the early period just as much... esp. Space Oddity and Hunky Dory. No stylism there, just great music. And then Scary Monsters (from 1980) is among my very favorites... perhaps his last truly great album. If I try hhard enough, I can enjoy his last few, but nothing like SM and before. My faves are: SM, SO, HD, Lodger, Low, RAFOZS, and then spatterings of everything els

Thanks for posting this clip... Low is one of my favorite Bowie albums, and the vid shows DB in a great way.

Wow... really nice. This is from the UnLedded performance, right? Is this on the DVD? Perhaps I ought to invest... I think the Page/Plant stuff I've seen from that time was very tasteful, even the non-Bonham drums!

Ugh, Dirty Work is not polished, imo... I think Some Girls, one of the Stones best, is their most polished sounding album, while DW is raw and sloppy. Sloppy in soooo many ways.... but I digress (and have digressed so many times in this forum before on this very topic). DW was a disappointing effort. Undercover I always loved... It has some 80's production, but really, I totally agree t

When I was 12, my father introduced me to his Dr. John records... I immediately found Mick Jagger in the liner notes/ credits on one of the records and instantly became a Dr. John fan! Dad also enjoys Otis Redding a great deal, and shares a similar appreciation to the kind of music that turns me on. Definitely an influence on me as a kid. My older brother was an even greater influence, getti

If the cd ends up being that setlist from above, I'll be quite happy. I still like live albums, especially if we get Far Away Eyes, As Tears Go By, Connection, Some Girls, and YGTS. Maybe we'll even get the "Paint It Black you devils!" girl in the audience again! or perhaps Mick will say something about busting a button on his trousers!! I'm sure we'll at least

Oh, Man... That was great! Thanks for posting that, Promoman. That is a much more seasoned version than what I saw in Boston a few years ago, and what we get on the FF DVD... Loved Ronnie's solo, Mick's solo, and I even liked what Chuck was doing for a while there. Jesus. That says something. Awesome.

Always thought Undercover was excellent. Not perfect, but a really great album. With better marketing and a tour it could have been huge. Never liked ZZ Top much. That's a funny looking drumkit, though!

Sorry, sometimes I am a bit hyper-opinionated! Dirty Work is a touchy subject... I remember waiting SOOO long for that album to be released, and was so very disappointed when I finally got it. By that time I was 13 and a rabid Stones fan, eager to see them live for the first time. I would have to wait until 1989, when I was 17, before I saw them live! But, being the Rolling Stones, there are

I think the singing style on Hold Back in particular is dreadful... ("If yeew lock enn your hee-staw-ray booooks...") but in addition the vocals are too prominent!! AND the lyrics are kinda dumb too. This is my #1 least favorite of all Stones tunes! I'd rather listen to my old Satanic Majesties LP skipping on Bill Wyman's snoring for 4 minutes than listen to HB, just beca

I am a fan of some jazz, and play a little jazz with a couple groups. I particularly like Grant Green's funky stuff, Cannonball Adderly, some of Miles' electric period, Cuban jazz, Lounge Lizards, Medeski, Martin and Wood, a Vermont group named Vorcza, some Wes Montgomery and some old George Benson (from the groove era-- Body Talk and Cookbook are my faves). Lately I've just st

Just saw on CNN.com that the music industry is now out to try to stop cd ripping. Not just distributing, but the act of copying your own cd's onto your computer or onto a cdr. Who is the evil freaking moron coming up with this stuff? Forgot to copy the link, but go to www.cnn.com and have a look. It's a video of an interview with an attorney who also seems to see it as bull****...

Yup, sounds like Day Tripper over the Satisfaction riff. Two great old riffs on top of eachother. Kinda clever.

I think I'd honestly be happy enough to watch a DVD of the O2 show. I'm a LZ fan, but also a fan of Robert Plant's most recent few solo albums, and a smattering of his older solo stuff. I agree with Dan, I'd like to see Robert continue with his creative side rather than the LZ stuff. I've been thinking on it a bit over the past couple of weeks, whether I'd pay $$ t

I'm not too surprised Rocket is a user. The guy was a legend, no doubt... and he always will be in my mind, but he also will always be kind of a jerk in my mind too. Ever since the time in the 80's when I read in a local paper how a kid from up here in Maine had gone down to Fenway with his parents to see RC pitch, and actually met him later that night in Boston... and was charged $11

I agree, melillo, Larry should be there... very distinct drumming, U2 would be a very different band without him. I also think Mick Fleetwood should be there, and of course Ringo. Charlie for me is a toss-up... great for the Stones, but as one of rock's greatest drummers, I just don't know. He has done some very key drumming for the Stones, but some of my favorite Stones drumming has

Yeah, the whole Foreigner thing kinda baffles me. I know Jason B. is their drummer (which also baffles me), but they're REALLY awful. DREADFUL, I'd even say. If it wasn't for a good cause, I'd think they'd get boo'd!! Is Foreigner bigger in Europe than in the US? Have they put out any music in the last twenty years? I remember when I was a kid, my brother and I

This is one of the things that makes LZ so great; the timelessness of their albums. My favorite LZ studio albums are: Physical Graffiti Presence LZ I LZ III Of course the same goes for many (all?) Stones albums from 1968 to 1983, imo. Bowie's Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, Lodger, and Scary Monsters (these are my faves of his!) And the Beatles, Beatles, Beatles, needless to say.

I like what Barn Owl said... My choices would match a lot of those, esp. Hunky Dory... And LA FORUM!... Suzanne V is playing where I live in Maine on Dec. 9th... been putting off getting tix, but maybe I'll get my butt in gear and go purchase!! I'd include in my album list: Cannonball Adderly 'Best Of: Capitol Years' Grant Green 'Aint It Funky Now' Elvis Cost

I think TSRTS is brilliant, always was, w/ overdubs and all, and the movie, while cheesy and pompous, shows a truly great band at its best on stage. They really were great musicians, especially Bonham.

The worst/ most noticeable edit on the SRTS remaster is on Whole Lotta Love... Just give the song a careful listen, and you will notice a couple of obviously bad ones, which I cannot believe were left on there. I am saddened that there are edits at all, as I was led to believe that I was getting a "whole show" from MSG '73. BUT, I still love listening to it, and I think it sounds

Thanks Rank, that article directly addresses what I am most curious about. I have a really hard time telling the difference between new and old remasters, other than that the newer ones are often louder. And it makes sense that volume compromises sound quality to some degree, but I hear so much about the "latest" technology in remastering... Is there stuff that can be done in 2007 tha

What are your opinions of recent technological innovations surrounding remastered recordings? In other words, would it be worthwhile for the Stones to remaster their catalog again, after the Virgin remasters (which I think sound great)? I think these were done in 1994, right? Led Zeppelin remastered their albums in 1994, and I think they sound great too. Is there any point in remastering them

I had considered that these might be the shorter versions from different nights... but it just seems odd that these shorter versions would replace the longer ones. The only other thing I could think of is perhaps the original album recordings are actually more than one versions pieced together, to make a longer version (???) and now they are shorter... but that seems unlikely. I'd feel a l

I just listened to Zeppelin's reissue of TSRTS on cd. It sounds really great, but it seems they have traded in some of the old edits for new ones. While there are indeed 6 new songs, I noticed Moby Dick, No Quarter, and Whole Lotta Love are actually significantly shorter than they are on my LP. This is a disappointment! Why put so much effort into making it sound great, then compromise
