JUST bought this album last night and listened to it on the way in to work this morning. It is brilliant. Those voices are beautiful together and the backing band is terrific. When I hear this, I understand why Plant may not be up for a LZ tour. He's gotta be excited about this album, rather than playing 'Stairway' and 'Black Dog' at arenas with LZ. I think that one-o

I've been meaning to pick this one up, but I end up working lat each night! And then I must watch the Red Sox as well, so I'm SWAMPED!! Perhaps I'll make it home tonight in time to swing by our local cd vendor before the first pitch... I have heard the Amazon samples and seen the vid. This really looks like a fun listen. Hopefully I'll get it tonight so I can listen on

Having seen him perform live a few years ago in Portland, ME, I concur that it is a mystery he isn't more visible and prosperous. I think this Jimi Hendrix Exp. thing is kinda cool, though. I'm not sure if MT is really much of a solo artist. He's a legendary guitarist, though, and ought to be doing big stuff with big musicians. I wish the Stones would invite him to play on an a

MS, it depends on what your criterion is for "best drummer." If you mean fastest, loudest, etc, then maybe Ringo is not. But if you mean most skilled, best ear, greatest volume control, most appropriate drumming for his group, then Ringo is the man. Not only that, but he WAS fast... his ride work on much of the early material is VERY fast, and very difficult. But difficulty doesn&

Gotta chime in here. I don't see anybody as a member of the "CW school," just because Charlie is so unique. I wouldn't call him "rock steady," either... Much of his later stuff is shaky, esp. live recordings. Still, I love his playing! Max W (of E Street Band) is indeed a hard hitter, very steady but rather rigid imo, although he is an essential part of their s

Hey! Terrific news! A new album. I assume if he said "new album," he meant "new album" and not new live album... I wonder if this will be released alongside the Shine A Light film?? Or maybe he's speaking of the soundtrack?? MUST HAVE MORE INFO...... Hopefully we'll learn more about this. It would be an odd choice to promote a film and an unrelated album at

I remember buying this album... I was fifteen and already a long time Stones fan... I hadn't cared for STB much, but I held hope his second solo effort would be better... I was sadly disappointed, even then, at age fifteen, during the height of 80's crap music! BUT... the two songs I did enjoy, which is opposite most who have posted above, were Let's Work and War Baby. Today whe

Yes, no Bonzo, but his son plays a lot like him. Now Jason is in his 40's (I think?)... my guess is he'll be smart and play a similar style simple kit with a large bass drum, etc... although I can't imagine touring w/ Foreigner has done him much good. They were awful. But he's the only guy who could really cut it, I think, as long as the equipment and sound is right. Perhap

I, personally, am excited about the Jagger comp., the Springsteen album, the Led Zeppelin reissues, AND the U2 dvd. I loved the PopMart show in '97, thought it was brilliant, sarcastic, risky... Been waiting for the dvd release for some time now (it was supposed to be out in June, but was postponed). All this stuff will be really fun to hear/see... it is shaping up to be an exciting fall, I

I must agree with mickschix that y'all are being a bit harsh! 'Charmed' is just a dance tune, that's all, yeah it's redundant, kinda 80's sounding, but jeez! I wouldn't say it's awful. I thought it was a fine tune for the vid. I am actually quite looking forward to this release, especially the videos. Yeah, Mick's done some very cheesy solo stuff,

Sounds like Nanker is the one to get our Pogues answers from... My first Pogues album, after seeing them open for U2 in '87, was If I Should Fall from Grace with God. It was a great place to start, as that was a real big breakthrough album in America. Then I bought the previous two, and every one since as they came out. The Pogues are truly brilliant, legendary. The only albums I wou

Saw Shane and the Pogues in Boston in March. It was brilliant. Shane sounded great, albeit pissed as usual. SM is singing far better than he was 5 years ago, I say that with all honesty, not just wishful thinking! Have a great time! I have never seen the Lemonheads, but apparently Evan Dando is a cousin of mine (he's my mom's cousin's kid)... so... 2nd cousin? Cousin once

With any single-disc best of collection, there will always be complaints about what was included and what was left off. I'm happy we get more than just album tracks on there. I don't care for 'Joy' either (that awful cheesy guitar!!), but whatever. I actually always kinda liked Let's Work, I'll admit it. I like the "La-la-la-la-l-la" voices... and that

Yes!! We need SRTS on DVD!! So many people dislike the album and movie, but I always thought they were great, obvious overdubs and all. I am really pleased this release is coming, and just wish it was sooner than Nov. I especially enjoy the first few seconds of the album... crowd noise... then where hear Bonham moan something unintelligible, then the famous hi-hat/snare intro, then WHAM!

I love the Moodies... but they are the most severe example of a band who USED to put out wonderful albums, and then met with some sort of disastrous songwriting/recording disease in the 80's and haven't put out anything decent in ages... They only put out sappy synth pop now, really awful stuff... but I still find myself sampling every new album they put out, because I love their old st

Like all of you, I am skeptical and not counting on this. While I too would welcome it, one would think there might be more talk of this online, besides this one "starpulse.com" article. It says at the bottom that the story was provided by the 'World Entertainment News Network'. Even the Police reunion made CNN... When I see a LZ reunion on CNN or RS.com or even any other s

...Anyone has a right to complain, and a right to rave all the same. That's what the board's for, right? Agree or disagree... That's what it's all about! I enjoy reading what you all have to say about the Stones' playing, setlists, etc... I really think this board was set up pretty much for exactly that purpose.

Young Americans is a very unique album... It definitely doesn't "rock" like so much of his others, but I do like it. The version of "Across The Universe" is one of my favorite Bowie recordings ever... He was hanging with Lennon a lot and he (JL) is on the album... I think it is him singing backing vocals at the end of ATU.

I think Keith is the ONLY reason I will go out and see this movie. I liked the first 2 Pirates movies enough to maybe rent them, but not to spend $9 or whatever it is these days to see a movie in the theaters... But for Keith, I'll spend the $9... Depp's cool, too, but the silly squid-guy and all the fantasy characters I could do without!

This is one of my all time favorite albums. It is a great double album, every tune on it is essential... I love the production, very Exile/White Album in that some tunes are rough, some are polished, some are sweet and some are gritty. FM's best, imo. Hugely underrated or, rather, just plain forgotten.

The new Wilco album, Sky Blue Sky, is gorgeous. A really monumental album, I think. Great guitar, great feel. I cannot recommend it enough.

I agree with you all... I also recently discovered his previous album (mostly covers) called Dreamland, which has a similar (sorta) feel... It is nice to see him using his voice intelligently and playing some really interesting new music, rather than trying to sound all Zeppeliny.

In my humble opinion, it is difficult to judge most active rock drummers today because so much of their playing has been doctored in the studio. Almost all metal drummers are all about beating the hell out of their drums rather than actually playing them... Charlie has gotten lazy over the years, but at least he's still sounding like a real drummer. Then there are the obnoxious double-ki

Yeah, ok, maybe I just am partial to the 1971 setlist, and the Leeds show... Still, even if Marquee is sub-par compared to Leeds, I find the setlist and the band's form at the time beats almost any other era. This puts Marquee at (or near) the top of the list!! IMO!!!

AAACK!!! Weak?! That show is so tight, and the sound is sooo good... The groove of Satisfaction on that show has been the subject of past threads, as it was never done that way ever again. They abandoned the riff and all the sudden the song has a new life... Also love MR, Dead Flowers, on that show and everything else. I think '71 Marquee is my favorite boot of all. I guess we all have

Great moments on LYL: Long, percussive intro into HTW Excellent medley on side 1 w/revamped version of Get Off My Cloud (funky!!) Crackin' Up!! Love it! Roudy, energetic version of Around and Around ("It's 12 O'CLOCK!!...") I always loved this double album... I like it on cd, as it is just a nice, long listen of live Stones; overdubs or not, I think it so

It's funny, I think it's a lot harder for a good band to have lasting power these days. Some of the groups you mentioned have really impressed me lately, and I think those groups would have lasting power if the 'album' was the entity it used to be, if the market had a longer attention span, etc. Let's just hope these newer bands continue to make music despite perhaps no

Click tracks work like a metronome, helping the band keep time and start together... sometimes on soundboard boots you can actually hear them. For the Stones gigantic stages, I can see how it might be necessary, but it also hinders that organic live sound, when one night the band plays a little faster/slower than another night, etc... Imagine Midnight Rambler from '72, or I'm Free from
