I'm thinking about what that means... (what oldkr says above)

...a live recorded performance without audience noises?

...not necessarily the show in the right order...

...not necessarily only songs from the show, or in theory not only RS songs...

...overdubs... ;-)

... ?

the middle section is interesting enough...besides, I have nothing against warhorses per se IF the whole concept fits AND the new versions of those warhorses are performed well and really add something (unlike some of the versions on Live Licks which really begged for some sense to have those songs again in iferior versions than heard before).

so far I WANT to believe that the Stones themselves (and not only producers or even their guitar technicians like Pierre) gave great attention to details because its a movie soundtrack. if the Stones quality control is in full force again like decades ago, I bet we will get something real good. And even if overdubs were necessary I dont mind at all because I dont want to hear wartsnall over and over again on official Stones product (overdubs did not spoil me on Get Yer Ya Yas Out, so why now if these are good).

OK, that's a nice easteregg:

Shine-A-Light-Soundtrack will be released march 2008,

So we'll listen to the music first, than we'll take a look at the motion pictures ...

Finally, a large ray of hope for those of us who want the Stones post-1970 catalog to be remastered using modern technology!!

As several posters have pointed out, Universal seems good at repackaging classic releases, and they will surely remaster the Stones catalog in the process.

We will be able to say goodbye to the mediocre (by today's standards) 1994 sonic quality, and hello to gorgeous 21st-century sonic bliss!!! (Plus bonus/unreleased stuff too, most likely!!)

That would certainly be an interesting prospect.
[As an asside. Strange that when CD as a format is entering it's decline...the industry has finally realised that there are beter and friendlier ways to package CDs than those awful antiseptic "jewell cases" !
[I love the recent Dylan anthology for example...in a nice box, card sleeves and black discs stamped on the back to resemble vinyl records.

I'm not interested in the CD. As has been stated before we don't need ANOTHER live album. I AM interested in the film though. Let's hope Marty's giving us an exciting, gritty rock n roll ride.

I think the real news about the Stones future (after Shine A Light) is here....

Quote

More details here:

Sir Mick, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are understood to be “considering their options” over EMI. However, many believe that they will sign up to Universal – unless EMI or another music group is willing to make an aggressive last ditch counter-offer. One industry source said: “You’d expect the Stones to sign up with Universal if everything goes to plan with Shine A Light.”

Sad thing - the continuation with live CD's - they have just published a 4 X DVD with lots of music from the BB consert.

Stones must be the band with the most official consert CD's - other artist like Dylan / Macca are much more productive with new music.....

If the cd ends up being that setlist from above, I'll be quite happy. I still like live albums, especially if we get Far Away Eyes, As Tears Go By, Connection, Some Girls, and YGTS.

Maybe we'll even get the "Paint It Black you devils!" girl in the audience again! or perhaps Mick will say something about busting a button on his trousers!! I'm sure we'll at least hear Keith say "Nice to be anywhere!"

Considering the popularity of live Stones boots, can you fault them for releasing officially-sanctioned live recordings?

Consider this -- many fans have umpteen versions of JJF live, but yet we still collect them.

Some of you folks have a problem with that? Why?

Glad to see BV gets a lot of mention on that setlist. No wonder no criticism of the Stones is allowedsmiling smiley

"the "Paint It Black you devils!" girl.

Maybe she sat beside Cliton doing him a good naughty job... and was too busy saying: "Paint It Black you devils!"

I am sure Stones will mess up this setlist and we will miss some rarities like some girls or dead flowers, so my hope is to find a top bootleg with all interesting songs!?!

In addition to trhe duets, I am looking forward to a high quality live version of She Was Hot.

I love live albums but I really love warhorse-free live albums.

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
Things are moving way too slow.

The way I understand the news and the "insider" quote is that now they have a
one album deal with Shine A Light and if everything goes well with it they will make a record deal (release more) with Universal. Maybe I´m just hoping.. Anyway
the Stones will "rock ´til they drop" spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Should a Stones fan be excited into the release of a new live CD ? After reading the setlist, the answer should be : yes. Without hearing after a reborne GYYYA, to have some of those great songs into an official CD is just fine.

Another live album for the collection.
I'm still hoping for more exciting news in 2008 (new studio album (Stones or solo), vault, new tour, etc).

These are the 2 setlists from IORR reviews, fair amount of duplication so if they use all those once that just leaves a few gems to pick from ,perhaps they might release one show in it's entirety and add the different tracks as a bonus disc, untill we see the movie we will just have to guess I suppose.

Plenty of delectable selections to choose from on those setlists. It's kinda funny yet also sad that some folks are already bitching about it without even knowing what's gonna be on it -- the way of the world I suppose.

Agreed. Who gives a f*** about rarities like Champagne & Reefer, I'm Free and Undercover Of The Night!!! We just want yet another rendition of Tumblin' Dice, Honky Tonk Women and Start Me Up. The Stones play well known songs for big audiences and not rarities for the die hard fans. Simple as that.
