Jagger solo albums are always fun to check out. I agree WS was his best. I like a few songs off of GITD and Alfie too, and even though a lot of Mick's solo material is fluff, I still enjoy hearing his voice on a bunch of fresh songs. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a Keith album sometime soon too. That would be a delight. He's due.

I llove the '71 version, love it, love it, love it... This thread makes me happy. I've tried to get my band to play it this way. It's much funkier, just a great groove, one of the best things the Stones have done live, I think. Very much like the treatment of Get Off My Cloud on Love You Live. I wish the Stones had done this waaaaay more often. It's great when a band takes

Wait... I'm not done. About the Bush thing... Bono talks to Bush, tries to work with him. Isn't that commendable? He could just stand on the sidelines and complain about Bush, like the rest of us, but he has power and $$, enough to get him into the oval office for a chat. Good for F%$#ing him! I wouldn't mind having a chat with our presidential shrubbery myself.

Interesting. My reply is: So Bono has money, an ego and a complex. So What. He raises awareness. U2 raises awareness, whether it be Amnesty Int'l, AIDS, or music education in Louisiana post-Katrina. Bono and the Edge use their celebrity power to raise awareness. They make loads of money off their music, then raise awareness on issues relating to the less fortunate. Aren't ther

This Sympathy is excellent, but the next one of Wild Horses I like even better! I've never heard a version of WH from that tour (unless it's on one of the crappy-sounding boots I have from '75)... I love Ronnie's guitar on it... I think the vid was just labelled 'Rolling Stones' on YouTube, but it was the next one listed in the list to the right.

Sounds... don't forget SOUNDS!! Shane sounded much better than has has in recent years. If you watch the 2001 documentary, he could barely sing at all when he had his solo band (The Popes), and he has been overweight in recent years. While he was drunk as a skunk last night, he was MUCH more like the old Shane of yore... Bless the rest of the Pogues for putting up with him.

Just saw the Pogues at the Avalon last night. GREAT show. Shane MacGowan looks and sounds better than he has in ages, and the band is excellent. The crowd was nutty. It was a wild, fantastic show. They play again tonight at the Orpheum... if you live near Boston, and you're a Pogues fan, you are required to attend. They hit the stage in 3 hours, so get over there!! Last night was so

Oops... I messed up on my math!! The first bit of my post was supposed to say one FOURTH of every setlist, as there were only 5 songs listed there, not 8... Bad math teacher.

This reminds me of the best thing about the 'Dirty Work' album... the inner sleeve artwork. Remember that cartoon? The 'Dirty Work Out'? Funny stuff. I think 'Monkey Man' is a GREAT song to have in the ipod when running at the local Y.

I am a teacher, and this is the week my students have to take the standardized tests. While they have been testing, I have been compiling information to back up my reasoning to not spend $ to see the Stones, even if they played in my neck of the woods... I have seen them 8 times, and of those shows:JJF, HTW, IORR, Brown Sugar, and Tumbling Dice were played at ALL 8 shows. That's approxi

There is John Bonham way atop the list, by a mile, then there is everyone else, imo. He was far and away the best. I mean each to his/her opinion, but John Bonham was just fantastic, had finesse, volume control and power like nobody else ever. He never used a double kick, ever!! BUT he played those couplets like nobody can. His playing was beautiful. I'd say Ringo and Keith Moon also

I have bought three things, out of desperation, at wal-mart. 2 were returned. As the bumper-sticker reads, "Your source for cheap, plastic crap." Indeed. BUT, it does indeed provide much needed items, however poor in quality, for those who cannot afford to shop elsewhere. Here it is, plain and simple: Buy stuff CHEAP overseas, hire CHEAP labor (way high turnover rate is necessar

1154. Re: gnr
I always felt this band was way over-rated. Of course I realize GnR fans will disagree, but I hate Axl's singing, and I've never found the band to have much depth. And Slash? I dunno. The covers mentioned in a recent thread (Sympathy and Live and Let Die) just felt very wrong to me, not very good. I guess Paradise City was OK, for a rock anthem type song, but I still can't get p

There have been many DW threads, both positive and negative. My overall feeling of the album is still pretty much what it was when it came out. Namely: Why are the drums so bloody loud? I've read it was all Lillywhite's idea. I still think with better production, this album could have been decent. But for me, even the title track is pretty awful-- loud drums, awful (throaty) singi

kovach, I was going to write the EXACT same thing... I have the exact same recollection. And I remember thinking, "This is going to be a GREAT album!!..." and waiting AGES for the LP to be released (the HS single came out way earlier, to coincide with that lifetime acheivement Grammy, then the album came out a solid month later) and being so sorely disappointed in the DW album, save f

That's a great clip... I especially liked the comment: when asked how many years he's been playing, Keith says, "Aw, I dunno, who counts?... Bill Wyman counts!" And then the comments about the sacrilege of making a solo record while working on a Stones project... Keith gets a few good digs in, doesn't he! I think he's in better shape these days than he

"Wanna rocknroll some MO'?!!" TRANSLATION: Here's either Satisfaction, IORR, Start Me Up, JJF, or Brown Sugar, fast and sloppy, pretty much just like we did it last time we were here. I always stay til the end, but usually that question means the best is over! Sad, sad, sad.

This version of Happpy is definitely sub-par, but I really dislike the Rio version of Get Off of My Cloud on YouTube... guitars are full of errors, rhythm is weird, Micks singing (yelling?) is monotonal. Blaaaand and sloppy.

To say Mighty Rearranger is "not a good album" is opinionated. My opinion is that it IS very good. Plant is obsessed with north African rhythms and middle eastern vocalizations and has been for many years... he's not just sampling "world beats" or whatever. This makes his music quite interesting. I am also of the opinion that his stuff with LZ from the early 70's

I just took the plunge and bought Robert Plant's big 9-album retrospective. I had a blast listening to all those solo albums! Some of them are really awful... I can't stand Shaken and Stirred, for example, and some of the singles from the late 80's/ early nineties "Tall Cool One" and "Watching You/ The Hurting Kind" are truly dreadful. But it is all fun to he

Sadly, I too am joining the camp that this is mere speculation, probably not going to happen. I would totally love it if it happened, but it just does not look likely. The Sun article contradicts itself and looks to be taking a weak rumor and trying to turn it into news. And the other article cites a "Torotno" radio station as its source! C'mon!! At least spell it right! I

C'mon, it's all in good fun, whether it's for kids or not. You gotta have fun. I'm sure Keith is having (or had) a blast on the set. The photo is great. I hope he has more than one or two lines, but even that is pretty cool. Maybe after this we'll see Keith in more films. Perhaps he'll fight Stallone in Rocky 7!!

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (Will Oldham) had two releases this year, including a live one, that were excellent. But I think my top album of 2006 is MWard's 'Post War.' It is simply a brilliant release, a great match for his previous 'Transistor Radio'. I also liked Cat Power's album. Dylan's album seemed to me to be yet another addendum to his last co

Some newer releases make my list: Dylan 1975 (from Bootleg Series, released 3 yrs ago) Bjork Live Box (this is incredible!! Bjork is a genius) The Name of this Band Is Talking Heads (Reissue, from last year... Always was fantastic, now it's twice as long and incredible!!) And of course: Ya Ya's and Leeds (Who)
