To my knowledge, Keith "staying true to himself", or whatever, wasn't a problem until after he suffered a brain injury. I'm not sure what your knowledge of musicians injured in plane crashes has to do with Keith Richards. Nonetheless, it's your call if you want to rip the guy...it's what HE wants anyway. He would prefer to be thought of as a pain in the ass, "jo

I wouldn't call Keith "a joke". I think that moniker fails to take into account his serious brain injury in 2006. Since then, his playing has suffered dramatically, as have, undoubtedly, many of his other cognitive skills. "Life" sounded like a wounded, desperate, defensive man trying to prove to everyone that he's the same as ever. The book itself isn't wholly

213. Re: Slave
Slave not a "proper song"??!?! Funniest thing I've heard in a while. The concept that someone feels accomplished (and self-important) enough to deem Slave not a "proper song" is just hilariously tragic.

Wouldn't bet against it. I'm pretty sure Buck's blue jeans, black jacket, white collared shirt look in '87(?) was modeled after an outfit Keith wore in '81. Not to mention the dissonant chords he often threw into tunes. (see the break down and restart of "It's the End of the World...". Great stuff.)

And...I'm also certain R.E.M.'s views changed as they got older....

Buck got compared a lot to Keith early on because of his propensity for riffs, his songwriting and his stage presence, but I never read anything about him being a Keith fan until much, much later. He could have been a big Keith fan, but I'm certain when R.E.M. first became huge, they went out of their way to question the Stones choices concerning venues, ticket prices, the quality of their m

I remember reading an interview with Bill Berry when Voodoo Lounge came out where he said he really liked the album, but that the rest of R.E.M. were not Stones fans. I think that changed over the years as R.E.M. began to tour larger and larger arenas. Especially for Pete Buck....

Great band. Their last release is really, really good. Obviously, their first 5-6 albums are insanely good. They will be missed.

Also, the advent of specialists in the bullpen (middle relievers, set-up men, and the closer) all make it much more difficult to hit .400 than it was in 1941. Obviously, Williams was a great hitter, and Rivera is a great pitcher, but comparing their achievements is kinda silly.

"I'm not an advocate of the Designated Hitter Rule; I'm only an advocate of seeing the truth and telling the truth. What the truth comes down to here is a question of in what does strategy reside? Does strategy exist in the act of bunting? If so the Designated Hitter Rule has reduced strategy. But if strategy exists in the decision about when a bunt should be used, then the DH rule

I found Shine A Light to be a bit overwhelming in Imax. Watching it at home makes me appreciate the effort Scorsese put into it; it really is a fascinating glimpse into the late autumn of the Stones. Not a consistently great performance by the band, but I really enjoyed some of the songs. I'm not into comparing performances and eras. I think it's a waste of time. Live in the present, yo

"Fans" of the Stones can be incredibly petty and short sighted. The notion that SH is the main reason the Stones aren't touring/preparing to tour is dubious at best. The concept that Mick is somehow blindly leaving his future plans to chance, (IE; if SH does well, the Stones won't tour. If it does poorly, the Stones are a go!) is laughably ignorant. If you don't dig SH

Sonja: Boris, Let me show you how absurd your position is. Let's say there is no God, and each man is free to do exactly as he chooses. What prevents you from creating a topic on IORR which is not only unfunny in and of itself, but which is begging to be replied to with simply terrible attempts at humor? Boris: A horrendous sense of humor is immoral. Sonja: Immorality is subjective. Boris

How on earth does thinking this list isn't funny equate to having no sense of humor? Seriously, are any of the listed items actually funny? (Hint: Answer=no)

If the idea is to not be funny, I get it. Charlie Watts falling asleep at his drum kit? How is that funny? Is that what passes for septuagenarian rock star humor these days? I mean, come on!- Gob Bluth

I had heard it a few times before. I find the difference between it and the '97 versions to be pretty fascinating. Again, thank you for posting it. I wish they would give different versions of classics more of a chance live. It seems as if they drop stuff almost immediately if it doesn't get a positive response either from the audience or from critics. They seem oddly sensitive about it

What does it say about someone when they have to counter a perfectly wonderful series of posts like these with immediate comparisons to '72/'73? The attitude behind, "Now THAT's a rehearsal" is puzzling. Where does it come from, this constant need to assert your opinion as the only one with any validity? Especially when the original post is completely non-confrontational.

I don't agree that Bill was irreplaceable as Charlie. Because, although some people may opine that the Stones haven't been the Stones since Bill left, that actually isn't the case. The Stones have continued without Bill. They are, in fact, still The Rolling Stones. They may not be YOUR Rolling Stones, but they are still THE Rolling Stones. That said, I kind of understand what th

Does the announcement mean the "meeting" in London went like this: Mick: Yayyyyy. We're all here! Keith: (grumble) Charlie: Ronnie: Good to see everyone. Charlie's show last night was really incredible. Mick: Okayyy, Okayyy......I have the Some Girls artwork and mixes here for each of you.... Keith: The what?!? Charlie: Looks very well done. I can't find a single version of Street Fighting Man from '89/'90 that even gets close to the Twickenham version from '03 or the version from Stripped. The versions of Paint It, Black from '02/'03 crush any version I've heard from '89/'90. The Paradiso version of Gimme Shelter is friggin' incredible. To me, '89/'90 was the absolute n

I think the band was better from '94-'06 onstage than they were in '89/'90. The SW/UJ tour was the slickest by far, and Wyman's feel seemed completely lost to me. The band has unquestionably rocked harder with Darryl onstage than it ever did during Bill's last tour. I'm grateful for Darryl's bass playing with the band, and am glad Bill saw fit to leave afte
