The beauty of Hampton, in my opinion, is that it isn't edited. The lengthy jams almost always kick absolute ass with the band gaining ferocity throughout the songs. (See Imagination, Let Me Go, Beast of Burden, Waiting on a Friend, Let it Bleed, YCAGWYW, Miss You.) I can't think of a better document of a tour than the complete Hampton show. The sound quality, video quality and lack of e

Yes! Let's all jump in with examples in order to prove to some moron that Keith can play the blues. What is wrong with you?!?

from about 4:57 on. (Camera moves away from Keith as he plays the lick.) Great version.

He plays a very fast run of notes towards the end of Waiting On A Friend from the PPV Hampton,'81. It's pretty obvious he's excited he pulled it off because he's hopping around like a kid after the song is over. Freakin' awesome

when keith was "on" nobody could touch him. he drove the greatest band ever to heights Townsend could only dream of. i dig Townsend but his playing is far too conventional in comparison with the man.

What is the fascination with this Wood v. Taylor b.s.? Seriously? Why is it important for people who, supposedly, love the same band to spend so much time trying to impose their opinion on someone who doesn't agree. I have never understood why fans of Taylor feel this inane need to defend him. He was a great guitarist. What else is there to say? He left the greatest band in the world of h

Yes!! The Stones are horrible!! Let's rip on them and call ourselves "fans". What keen insight all you whiners lend to this board!

See, the way this kind of thing works is....we all thought it was "scarred old slaver". None of us had any reason to think differently. There is no reason to make a nonsensical attempt to prove that you somehow know the lyric, for absolute certain, is "scarred old slaver". Most of us know where Mick supposedly wrote the song. too. So, saying something like, "I'm sure

no one brought it up because Dylan made it clear in that same interview that he was joking and that he thought the Stones were the best, etc..... seriously, how the heck could anyone try to give weight to their own opinion by quoting, of all people, Bob Dylan; who is famous for having a myriad of opinions on a single subject. looking forward to the Stu tribute track. can't wait to hear

This is great news all around. I could understand the reticence towards Chuck's involvement if it were Jagger, Chuck, and Keith. Chuck jamming with Keith and Ronnie, however, seems like it could be quite cool. Hopefully things progress from here. Thanks for the info!

Yeah...the production is awful, and Jagger is definitely in annoying growl mode, but the MUSIC is raw and funky. Keith and Charlie are playing with an energy that is sorely lacking on the milquetoast Steel Wheels. As for the lack of melody nonsense....who f'n cares? The carefully crafted melodies on SW were just as annoying as the lack thereof on Hold Back.

"it was obvious what you meant but you're still gonna get flack for not following the "hardcore fan" narrative.you have to realise you're in an alternate universe where the stones should play for less money and play songs most of the crowd doesnt know.oh,yeah and they should play for smaller crowds too. and remember, they WOULD play for less money and play obscure songs

Keith's voice on studio recordings isn't as exceptional now as it was in the past. However, I prefer Keith's live lead vocals over the past few tours to his live lead vocals from '72-'82. I think he learned to be a better lead singer in a live setting during the Winos tours.

Anyone who knows thing one about autobiographical writing will recognize that this is an excellent book; extremely well written in a consistent, singular voice with wonderful stories and very interesting information concerning songwriting, guitar playing, drugs, women, and the rest of the band amongst many other subjects . If your expectations are getting in the way of recognizing a truly remarka

Some of the comments on this thread are perfect examples of fans projecting their wishes onto a situation regardless of whether or not those wishes have anything to do with the truth. Mr. Taylor quit The Rolling Stones. He was not asked to leave. He quit. Why would he hold a grudge against Mr. Wood? Why would he want to engage in a guitar duel with a man who only became a Rolling Stone after h

Ronnie is really doing well. Love his playing with the Stones, and the new album sounds good. Nicely done.

Mick Taylor's soloing increased in direct proportion to Keith's use of heroin. In '72, there are clear examples of Keith being annoyed by Mick Taylor's playing. By '73, not so much. Keith was playing great in '73, but probably less inclined to confront anyone in lieu of an appointment with a needle and/or spoon. Or, it could have something to do with the fact that we

Maybe monitor problems, too. Very different from his excellent running through the crowd during "Let Me Go" in 1981.
