A great groove. It's a pitty though that they didn't manage to make a proper song out of it. The "song" is basically just a stretched groove that goes on a bit too long.

To me this is like saying an orgasm that goes on a bit too long.

Heard this song again today and remembered why I love it sooo much. The over all "groove" is just great!!
Can anyone suggest other Stones songs that contain a great groove like this?

Every Stones song released on Decca...

there aren't many songs like Slave in rock and roll. first it states a big groove, from the drums/percussion
then the guitar puts it right on track, and the bass follows
but for me its that Rhodes electric piano, Ian MacClagan, that makes the track.
and how many rock songs have a veteran jazz master playing on it?
not many. when it quiets down then rises in intensity, there just aren't many Stones songs that do that either.
love it!

Slave not a "proper song"??!?! Funniest thing I've heard in a while. The concept that someone feels accomplished (and self-important) enough to deem Slave not a "proper song" is just hilariously tragic.

I agree, but it's Billy Preston on the Rhodes.
