Quotemarko Those audience numbers aren´t bad, except only 2nd Rome in 1990. Yeah, you're right Marko. People also need to put things into perspective: since 1995, The Stones have drawn MUCH bigger audiences in Europe than in the USA. I don't think any US concert has had a crowd bigger than 70,000+ since Steel Wheels (and only then it was in LA), whereas VL and B2B Europe often had crow

Quoterocker1 Also, in 1982, how many indoor arenas did they play? Looks like perhaps only very few? Frankfurt and maybe a couple Scotland gigs? Did they use the same indoor stage for these gigs as they used in 1981 (e.g., Hampton)? Unlike 1981, which saw half of the tour in stadiums and half in arenas, the Stones played a total of four arena shows in 1982: 3 at the Festhalle in Franfurt an

For some reason, the old country (as we Italian-Americans say) has never been a good market for many of the biggest rock bands. The Stones had good drawings in 1982, but by 1990, I was told that the Italian concert goers and especially the Italian media turned on the Stones: with a second concert in Turin that year being canceled due to horrible ticket sales. And of course, we know what happened

QuoteSleepy City Quotestevecardi Excuse my ignorance as I know nothing about the Shadows, but did they cover the Stones song, "Blue Turns To Grey"? That's always been on my list of lost Stones-gems (as is most of the December's Children album) They had the UK hit with the song, though Cliff claims he didn't know it was a Jagger-Richards composition when he cut it. QuoteRip This ...At least Keith didn't go on Oprah and discuss the book there.....that might of been the end of the Rolling Stones. If those lemon-yellow tights of 1981/82 didn't kill the Stones image-wise, that certainly would have!

If one is to not count the brief improvisation of "Country Honk" as a complete, actual performance and count the "If You Can't Rock Me/Get Off Of My Cloud" medley as one song, then both Knebworth '76 and the first Philadelphia '89 show were the longest Stones concerts per songs--28 numbers.

Quotestones78 I'll take this tour over the TOTA anyday. Don't know why. The 75' tour is my least favorite from before the "Vegas era". LOL stones78, 1976 is my least favorite tour of all Stones tours--and I'll also go to my grave believing '75 was the most underrated tour they ever did. But then again, Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle are among my all-time favs, so i

The ubber-long setlist, the appearance of pre-Jumpin' Jack Flash material, and most importantly, the performance/tease of "Country Honk." Other than that, it's the "Phantom Menace" of 1970s Stones shows.

Quotehotspot3000 I think The Stones were regularly late starting at those gigs and most gigs that came before 81'. Ronnie probably got to bed 2 hours before show time anyway if at all. "Welcome to the breakfast show"! Ronnie's a loveable @#$%& up! HAHAHA West Palm Beach and LA 1969: what amazes me is not that they kept the crowd waiting 4 hours, it's that the crowd

QuoteStoneage Well he yells at him a little bit but you can't hear the sound of it in the clip. They destroyed the song though with those clips. and it's a great live version of the song too--probably my favorite one of all (same goes with Beast of Burden from this show: The whole band--Ernie Watts included--just perform inhuman magic on those two numbers).

Indeed a tragic and sad waste. I also couldn't help but notice that the 27 Club claims another victim.

Quotetomk Don't forget his playing on Black Limousine and She Was Hot (second verse). BL you have to really zero in on, but it's really great. Or Stu's signature song with the Stones: "Let It Bleed." Without his piano, that masterpiece of a song doesn't work.

I've hesitated on posting about Life for a while, as I've got mixed emotions about it. I will say this, I lost a lot of respect for Keith after reading his recollections about his late baby son Tara. Obviously this was the most painful moment in Keith's life and not something he wants to talk about (least of all with the public), but calling the baby a "sonofabitch" for

Obviously a great album, but "Let It Bleed" will always get my vote for best Stones album. That album is so strong that when I've played it for people who have never listened to the Stones, some of them asked me, "is this a greatest hits collection?"
