Quoteexilestones Exiles, THANK YOU for posting this: this is EXACTLY the kind of thing I enjoy reading about as a Stones fan: especially the stuff about how they choose the songs to play for a tour. 1981 was the first time Mick felt comfortable enough to put the pre-JJF material into the main set so this tour’s pre-rehearsals at Longview Farm have always fascinated me. From this ar

Worst album since TSMR. “One Hit” and “Harlem Shuffle” are prime material but the rest is a joke. The title track is a silly attempt to combine 1980s yuppiness with 1950s leather jacket greasy hair switchblades, “Winning Ugly” is just bad, “Fight” is filler made worse by the slick sounding mix, “Hold Back” and “Too Rude” have their moments but are missing “that” thing,” “Had it With You” is miss

QuoteBig Al Those live renditions of Little Red Rooster and Down The Road Apiece are what interest me the most. I'm guessing they are professionally recorded. It makes me wonder how many Brian-era shows were taped. Of course, a few of those studio tracks have yet to be heard too: The track titled 'Aftermath' sounds intriguing. Agreed. My guess is these were recordings from the sh

QuoteRocky Dijon 8 shows in Japan, 170K attendees @ Y6500 apiece. 8 shows sold out in hours. That situation was unique as the Stones were the one big band to haven’t played Japan at that point (drug convictions allowed the Japanese government to band them). Once the band was lifted in the 1980s, Japanese fans were more than happy and eager to have a solo Mick rather than no Stones at all.

QuoteMathijs QuoteDan QuoteDoxa QuoteMathijs I think the emphasis on how great Mick is as a businessman is hugely overblown. For the Stones the market is huge, there's only a few promotors that can do these big tours, so negotiating a good deal isn't all that difficult. Mick found out himself that a sell-to market is more important than being a good businessman -he wasn't able to g

Quotelem motlow The absolute fantasy that Keith had anything to do with any business deal involving the Stones is laughable. Any quote from him regarding the bands financial situation is him repeating something Mick Jagger told him. The guy spent years in a drunken drugged out haze while Mick covered his ass. You can find interviews with Charlie and Bill talking about Keith falling asleep at a

This has always been an interesting topic for me. As huge and as groundbreaking as the 1981/1982 tour was, the Steel Wheels tour was next level stuff not just for the Stones, but for the whole music industry in and of itself. Even big names like Michael Jackson were shocked at how big and financially successful it was in terms of attendance, ticket gross, corporate sponsorship, merchandising not

QuoteMathijs Quotestevecardi Mathijs I agree, Mathijs. Comparing the studio version of “Brown Sugar” with the live one from Altamont is telling. That’s the one live version I’ve ever heard where Keith came closest to nailing his tone from the studio version. And Keith played his backup (early production version) of the DA at that show for “Brown Sugar.” So yes, my guess is that Keith’s mai

QuoteAntoineParis Quotepftw04 I personally feel that ROLLING STONES will not be touring next year. As Mick Jagger will be turning 80. And I cannot think or imagine that Mick Jagger will be dancing around the stage at 80. That will be too much to ask from the front man. Also Keith Richards will be 79. So considering there age I feel 2022 maybe there last. They will tour but only in Europe (June

Only 17 songs....can't be true........... why shouldn't it be. if they can get away with these prices they can get away with anything well, yeah...I was just thinking out loud and was a train of thought...it's bittersweet being the last show of the tour...

Nothing like that first time you see the Stones in person. For me, it was when I saw the first Foxboro show on the B2B tour. Was a sophomore in high school and had become a die hard fan the year before. Can’t really say I have one favorite. I think the one I enjoyed the most was opening night of the Licks tour in Boston at the Fleet Center. And that is because I got to hear a ton of ratites I

I was recently listening to the Paris, Lyon, Knebworth and El Mocambo shows from 1976-1977. They got me to thinking: as much as I love Wayne Perkins and Harvey Mandel’s work on B&B, I wonder why Mick and Keith didn’t let Ronnie replace their parts on “Hot Stuff,” “Hand of Fate,” and “Fool to Cry.” Ronnies playing on those songs from 1976-1977 show he was more than capable of adding something

Probably gonna play it safe tonight: JJF, SMU, BS. Maybe HTW. Would be nice if they opened with SFM. That’s been one of my favorite choices for opener since I saw the first night of the Licks tour. (Well actually, since I first got Stripped.) LSTNT seems like a weird choice for opening. Too pop and obvious. But I doubt it’ll be anything off beat or unexpected. And if it is, my guess it

Quoteloog droog Sticky Fingers (with an actual zipper) and the original die-cut cover of Some Girls with pics of Lucy, etc., before it was "under construction" are standouts from a conceptual standpoint. Exile on Main St. is also great and works well as a reflection of the the music inside. But I really like the covers with pictures of the Stones on them: Through The Past Darkly ca

Does anyone know why, out of all the aspects of his past life, Keith has felt the need to clarify the rumors and set the record straight that he used to have routine blood changes and transfusions on a regular basis? This man has been on the receiving end of some of the worst half-truths, rumors, exaggerations, accusations, and outright slander/libel I can think of (devil worship, human sacrif
