STU was and always will be (along with Brian) the original creater of the Stones.

I know Keith can twist thinks to romanticise them ,but I always loved his story of turning up for the 1st audition and hearing Stu's boogie woogie from the street below.Stu was playing by an open window,so he could keep an eye on his bicycle!

You can tell by the way his death devistated them and almost finished the band, that he was more important to them than any written words.

I was lucky enough to see him play with them twice in 82.

A true gentleman , 20 years gone,but never forgotten.

It WAS answered--Ian Stewart accepted his role, but was respected by the band. Don't forget that other bands recognized him for his true value--we also have "Boogie With Stu", from Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti". He got a writing credit on it (along with Richie Valens' widow).

I'm listening to it right now-- what a fun track--JPJ is playing mandolin, and Ian gets a lead--sounds like everyone was having a great time--you gotta hear it.

Although this has proven to be false, it's been rumored that Stu wrote the bridge to "Stairway to Heaven."

And AFAIC, piano playing doesn't get any better than what that man did on "Boogie With Stu" and "Rock 'n' Roll."

Don't forget his playing on Black Limousine and She Was Hot (second verse).
BL you have to really zero in on, but it's really great.

Or Stu's signature song with the Stones: "Let It Bleed."
Without his piano, that masterpiece of a song doesn't work.
