Good pick-up scottkeef---I was chuckling about that the other night, it is like 'do they even look at this stuff before it goes out?' lol That said, love that they released the cd, as far as I am concerned that and Brussels are the 2 jewels of this recent orgy of new releases. Also the quality of the video is way higher than what I would have expected which is great.

Yes, they're great, really project, I use them on a Martin DSR and it really rings out with great clarity and balance (Martins can get bass heavy, imo). That said, they're not cheap but definitely worth checking them out and seeing if they work for you.

Hey Tod---how's it going? Loved the ABB/volume quote--hilarious! With the avalanche of great releases, had to check back in---hoping that they really rock their sales projections they'll release more. God only knows how much incredible stuff they are sitting on.

Not hearing Hubert Sumlin but definitely agree with Wayne Perkins--both Hand of Fate and Worried About You are reminiscent of MT, imo

I've always wondered what it'd be like to be tone deaf... Btw, the band themselves don't share your view of this period.

Rooster---I knew you would be able to answer a ? regarding the '78 tour! Thanks. I like the Philly version also--pretty different and very cool.

I think the reason it was so short was that Mick was pretty ill--they almost considered cancelling the show. My buddy's brother went to this show and at the time it seemed so wild that someone was actually going to SEE the Rolling Stones. The fact that we were from NY and the show was in Philly only added to the mystique. I thought that Peter Tosh was on the receiving end of the really sh

That is a GREAT photo. Looks like it was taken from the stage itself. Mathijs---what have you heard about these guitars? Hard to imagine he would use them if they are crap. And, man has Keith fallen in love with those Gibsons, or what?

I agree. The SACD discs are off the charts in terms of sound quality when compared to a regular cd. Beggars Banquet, I would put up with any cd out there and it was recorded in 1968. Pretty impressive. The fact that the '70s releases are not going to be in this format makes the whole thing a bit of a sham. If you are going to pass on a technology that is markedly better than anything els

The Some Girls omission (which is both glaring and unfair) aside; I happen to agree with a lot of his points regarding their creativity. It goes beyond just Mick Taylor though and should also include Jimmy Miler and Nicky Hopkins along with the fact that for obvious reasons, Keith was in decline from his zenith just a few years prior. Ronnie Wood as a guitar player is never going to be confu

QuoteStonesTod well, like i said, i'm prolly biased. but i had no problems at the time with the perf, and the soundboard tape that has been in circulation for a long time suggests my recollection of that show is pretty good. the next two shows in SF were of a similar caliber, imo, too... the tour definitely got off to a rough couple of weeks, but the band was whipping into shape by the time

QuoteStonesTod yep - my first two stones shows in the now defunct kingdome. horrific acoustics. first night we sat in the rafters maybe 11 miles from the stage and used our binoculars to watch the bigscreen. next day we were down in front with girls on our shoulders and all the other associated accoutrements and whatnot.... "binoculars to watch the big screen"----thats hilarious!

I still have my ticket for Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck at the Garden, they didn't even get close, lol. I realize John Mayer is pretty easy to laugh at given that he seems to write his songs for teen-aged girls and soccer moms but that said, the guy can really play guitar. Those videos are killer!! Thanks for posting. Sounds like a couple of killer shows out in LA.

QuoteCindyC yeah - there should be a law that you can only wear the shirt if you can name all members of the band or something. Amen to that!!! I say that you have to name 10 songs but the sentiment is the same. There are lots of "kids" here running around in shirts with the Stones tongue and you look at them and think to yourself "You couldn't name 10 songs at gun point&quo

QuoteNorthShoreBlues2 Indeed, great compliments from this board . . . dare i say that they are truly one of just a few real rock bands out there. Some of you older folks should check out Eddie Vedder's solo album/soundtrack to Into the Wild. Fantastic acoustic album. Good stuff. "one of just a few real rock bands out there"---very well put. Sad, but true.

Quotecurtisdavis Saw him in 1999 myself and was blown away also,I am looking at a good bootleg from the Royal Festival Hall 2002,the show where he pulls out the Jeff Beck Group and YardBirds stuff on top of his solo guitar stuff, that is the footage that the world needs to see. Very, very cool. That IS something that needs to get out there. The '99 Tour was different in that he had Jennifer

QuoteCafaro I normally dont buy concert t shirts at the show. You can get them on line cheaper but my son wanted one. He is 15. I bought the Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD but I havent watched it yet. Day in the Life was incredible. I am just blown away how good he was. The sound was stellar. He has 2-3 Marshalls set up and it was perfect. Cafaro---you are in for a treat! The Live at Ronnie

QuoteCharliMoon QuoteGlass Slide I seriously hope to be wrong here but I'm not sure a new record is on the radar at this point. I mean, let's keep in mind that ABB is already 4 years ago... Let's keep in mind they once had a six year break between touring. I believe there will be another record, maybe not in the next 6 months, but they will start recording again. A Bigger

QuoteSohoe St Kilda is in Australia. A suburb of Melbourne Ah, thank you and please excuse my ignorance. A suburb of Melbourne is sounding pretty good when it is freakin 35 degrees in April in NY. I acknowledge all the faults with this record and God knows I'd never compare it to Ya Ya's, but, for me personally, I can still listen to it and enjoy it for what it and thats all you

I will always have a place in my heart for this record because when I first got into the band the excitement and aggressive playing really clicked with me. That said, I have not heard Hawaii '66 or Paris '66 or St Kila (where is that?) and have little doubt that w/o the studio nonsense they are even better.

I went to the show Friday night at Irving Plaza---I thought he killed! Like Cafaro posted, his band is very tight and Tal Wilkenfeld on bass (she's 22!) and Vinnie Coluiata on drums were tremendous. I loved the set list, its like he takes 2-3 songs from each of his solo records and that gives a great overview of his career. His version of Day In The Life alone is worth the price of admis

Jeff Beck is playing Irving Plaza (NYC) on April 9 & 10---him playing that venue is crazy, apart from him playing in your basement thats gonna be about as close as you're ever gonna get. And I agree, the Ronnie Scotts DVD is freakin awesome--he seems to have lost nothing off his fastball and at 64 thats pretty darn impressive, not everyone gets to age so gracefully. I am glad he has d

Good one Tod! I have never heard Carlos play anything that resembles that opening riff--one of Keith's very best. I do agree that this is way way up there in the "Off the charts" great Stones songs--close to a perfect track, imo, its got everything.

I don't know which Philly show you are referencing there Greek, but I was at the first show 9/25/81 and while it was the first time I saw the Stones and I was just 16 thereby making it the highlight of my life to that point, I don't recall ANYTHING being played that was musically "best" or even "memorable". That said, and I know others disagree---I have always lo
