MT is unique, no one sounds like him. Is so special................. but he is not God
You re correct sir. He is not. That would be Clapton...

Yes Taylor's quite unique - which is why I mentioned Joe Cocker....if he'd only turn up the volume so we could hear him; he might be comparable for all we know

John Mayer I would not consider because JM is so wrapped in a Stratocaster.

Not so much tone as in something less tangible. An effortless melodic flair.

Carlos Santana. Not the choice of music-style but the way to play...

That's one of my choices....Like this:

Different choice of notes, tone, background and all, but every time I listen to Marc Ford with the Crowes or Craig Ross (guitarist for Lenny Kravitz) MT comes to mind.

Oh, I can't believe I did not think of Marc Ford right away. I used to always call him the Mick Taylor of the Crowes.

...from the beginning you can find much Clapton in Taylors playing, but he developed it....

Robben Ford's contribution on Joni Mitchell's "In France They Kiss on Main Street"
Sounds like a Taylor copy to me.

Mick Rogers' playing in Manfred Mann's Earth Band 'Solar fire' reminds me of Taylor's technique and style especially in 'Goat's head soup'.

There are many things in Marc Ford that remind me to Taylor. He doesn't seem to have a logical way of playing. Sometimes you know what a guitar player is going to do in a solo but Taylor and Ford seem to improvise, they seem to be jamming and not repeating a trained solo. There are some boots from the crowes, from the shouthern harmony tour, in which he does incredible solos (the best one may be one that was recorded somewhere in Texas). For me, the best Ford can be heard in the song No speak no slave. The second solo is awesome.

I was listening to Jimi Hendrix's May This Be Love on my way to work today. I bet Taylor have heard his solos there - lots of similar stuff to what Taylor developed for the 72/73-tours. That surprised me a bit.

I've heard that MT sounds a lot like Hubert Sumlin, but I've never looked into any of Hubert's works. Any ideas?

Not hearing Hubert Sumlin but definitely agree with Wayne Perkins--both Hand of Fate and Worried About You are reminiscent of MT, imo

I've always heard alot of similarities between Clapton, Peter Green, and Taylor's playing. To me, they epitomise the great '60's British blues guitarists. I think Green and Taylor both had similar Clapton-influenced styles in the beginning and both would eventually go on to develop it into something more their own, just as Clapton's style would continue to change. There are certainly other great guitarists (Beck, Page,Hendrix, Allman) but I always think of these three together as the great triumvirate of British blues.

Hey Tod---how's it going? Loved the ABB/volume quote--hilarious!

With the avalanche of great releases, had to check
back in---hoping that they really rock their sales
projections they'll release more. God only knows how much incredible stuff they are sitting on.
