QuoteStonesTod QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteWeLoveToPlayTheBlues Please explain how Tumbling Dice is 'country', treacle. Mick's vocal melody lines are country-inspired. which country? Mick often sings in the pentatonic major (the country scale), or at least mixes notes from that with the pentatonic minor scale (which is basically the blues scale)...mix them together and you h

QuoteSweetThing (tuI sincerely wonder what it is then - about Mick & Keith, or one or the other, if not Chuck. I rather enjoyed everyone that contributed to the Stones over the years - Ian Stewart, Nicky Hopkins, Billy Preston, McLagan and others... I suppose this is just the way they prefer the band to sound now. More power to them I suppose, that's as it should be of course. They j

QuoteLaughingsam Quote24FPS Although I loved Led Zeppelin a lot of recordings have come forth in the past few years to show how much sound they stole from other people. Totally agree. I LOVE Led Zeppelin, but they are among the least original of all the British supergroups. Their strength lies in the power of their delivery, not innovation. Yah, totally agree. Luv me some Zep, but a lot o th

QuoteStonesTod jamie oldaker - who held the job as clapton's drummer in the mid-to-late 70's had a great tension/release style that always pleased me and found drumming on my knees in a drumalong. long forgotten now, but he definitely had a unique feel and style.... I listened to 461 Ocean Boulevard about 10 times last week, and yeah, Oldaker's drumming is great! The whole ban

QuoteShawn20 Nice to hear Jagger is active. He obviously wants to work and more importantly - he still has his chops. Keith may be done. When is the last time anyone saw Keith near a guitar? Bring the Jagger solo tour on - not as good as a Stones' tour - but that may no longer be an option. I agree that Keith's playing ain't anywhere near what it used to be, but he still pl

I think its the combination of Charlie and Keith that is the core of the group's sound. Keith has said that in the early days before they had monitors on stage, he couldn't hear anything, so he'd get right next to Charlie, and play to Charlie's kick drum, and that helped forge the unified sound that they have now. And in the Dallas '72 rehearsals its often just Keith

Page has said in an interview that since he didn't read music, most of his session work was playing rhythm, except for the occassional song on which he got to improvise a lead - but those were few when compared to the rhythym parts. Page said that sometimes when he would work with another session guitarist who could read music (I can't remember who exactly, but maybe Vic Flick), that

studio FTW!!! Brian's marimbas playing on it was truly one his finest moments. How can a Stones fan not like that track? Baffling. The '69 version is good, it is arranged so differently from the studio that its almost like a different song altogether.

I agree that ASMB and SOL were horrible choices...sometimes I wonder, "what the hell is Mick thinking?" She Saw Me Coming is a great song, and so is Harlem Shuffle (although Bob & Earl's original is even better).
