Maybe he said that because of Altamont (although that happened after Woodstock, it may have influenced his overall view of the Stones). That craziness was due to the Hells Angels though, not the Stones.

QuoteMidnight Toker Georgia a great place to live? Really. High crime, horrible air quality and horrendous traffic with no end in sight. The humidity you can cook a pot roast within 5 minutes. Police Dept. undefunded. Equipment outdated. A dangerous city to live in.Now considered one of the largest narcotics "hubs" in the USA. I spent one year there and bolted. Nothing to like in Atlanta

QuoteDoxa Anyway, here is another Stones/Simon colloboration: - Doxa Great mash up! Hilarious. Any other Stones mash ups out there? Re: You're So Vain - a lot of people seem to think its about David Geffen. Re: Memory Motel. What a wonderful song, always been a favorite of mine. I've never been much of a lyrics guy, but I love the lyrics in this one. The air of melancholi

"I'm a rolling stone, all alone and lost, For a life of sin, I have paid the cost. When I pass by, all the people say "Just another guy on the lost highway." Just a deck of cards and a jug of wine And a woman's lies make a life like mine. Oh, the day we met, I went astray, I started rollin' down that lost highway. I was just a lad, nearly twenty-two,

An interesting thread, and I think you might be on to something here Doxa. One thing about 'weaving', especially when guitarists are chemically fueled, is it tends to fill in all the 'holes' in the melody line, where the vocals go. Overly busy guitar playing is hard to sing over. (I've been guilty of overplaying a lot myself, so its something I've become aware of).

QuoteNorthShoreBlues2 Its the "15 Best Rock Docs on Netflix Instant" is it possible that Gimme Shelter, Last Waltz, Kids are Alright, Rattle & Hum, etc., are not on Netflix Instant? Not really sure what Netflix Instant is . . . I think you are correct. Netflix Instant provides films that you can stream over the web. A friend of mine has it, and its pretty cool (he hooks his c

QuoteSwayStones QuoteThe Sicilian Man, a little snow and they close the city for a week? I know that it is uncommon there but wow!!! They need to smarten up and stockpile some road salt for winter events. We got 6 more inches of snow yesterday and the main roads are plowed and ready to go by morning. You go out and brush off the car and away you go. Like this man -Paul- on the vi

QuoteSwayStones QuoteKeefan That aired on my 15th birthday...thanks for posting that clip. Really ? That aired on my 15th B day in 1976 as well I think i shouldn't have focused that much on Jagger because Mr Ian Stewart was on the stage .Now I feel kinda sorry for this because imo, Ian Stewart is the only piano player who could fit to /with the Stones. With Nicky of course Wo

Hey Mongoose, I just listened to some of your tunes on MySpace. You guys sound great, and hats off to your excellent guitar playing! If I don't make it out on Saturday (unfortunately your gig is the same time as the Falcons game), I will make a point to see you guys soon (let me know the date for the Java Monkey gig, or post it on your site). Keep on rockin'! Elmo, MArvPeck, I would

Love that Ingres portrait, Schillid! That guy could draw like a mofo. I'm a graphic artist myself (25 years and counting), I mostly do graphic design and cartooning, and I've drawn some comic stories too. Regarding Keith's figure drawings, he obviously has some talent. He has a naturalistic style, and a good command of proportions. His knowledge of anatomy seems pretty good,

Quotelikecats I think the two greatest hits albums mentioned before are a good introduction, but Workingman's Dead and American Beauty are pretty accessible and I think they represent the band well. They also contain the only two songs that got much airplay before Touch of Grey: Casey Jones and Truckin', so you get two stand-alone albums that each have a greatest hit. +1, I agree 10

Quotetatters I never knew that if it hadn't been for Bobby "Honey" Goldsboro, Keith would never have learned those Jimmy Reed tricks that would allow him to write things like "Gimmie Shelter". Okay, now I gotta read it, to find out what the heck you're talking about!

Quoteloog droog When "Harlem Shuffle" was new they played it at a theatre in Santa Monica which was showing the Terry Gilliam film "Brazil." Saw it twice (before and after "Brazil" ) one afternoon. It looks really, really good on a big screen. The Harlem Shuffle video was indeed great. The animation in it was directed by John Kricfalusi, who went on to crea

You can catch a glimpses of it at about the 2:03 & 2:33 marks. Keith carries an Okapi,a knife which is known as the "Saturday Night Special" of knives. I'm surprised that Keith doesn't carry a knife that you can open with one hand.

I live in the Decatur area of Atlanta, inside the perimeter. Haven't started my car since Sunday...luckily I am able to take the week off from my job. Walked to the grocery store a couple of times...the walk was much slippier today than yesterday, and I came close to slipping and busting my ass a bunch of times, but never actually fell. My local store ran out of Guiness, damn it...I am

Quotestones78 Metal has nothing to do with blues and has more influence from classical music, the Stones have never been remotely close to playing heavy metal...thank God. I respectfully disagree with you on the point metal owing nothing to the blues. Sabbath (and Zeppelin of course) are VERY blues-based, and they begat metal. To this day, Iommi's solos are still mainly based on the blu

I don't think of the Stones as metal at all. If ya get too heavy, ya can't roll, and the Stones are all about rolling. The Stones are strongly influenced by stuff like country, soul & reggae, and stay away from exotic scales like the Aeolian, or harmonic minor, etc., which makes them very un-metal (Also, you don't hear many horns in metal). I consider Sabbath the first true

I love the sound that Jimmy Miller brought to the Stones, and the work he did with Spencer Davis and Traffic was great too, like when he"d have the sax player play through a wah wah pedal...cool stuff. Miller was a monster talent, and helped propel the Stones to their peak. Same goes for Bobby Keys. Bobby and Jimmy both entered the Stones orbit around the same time, and both exited from th

^^^Very true. Hank III is great, but you won't find any promo standees of him at Wal Mart. A co-worker was listening to Zac Brown the other day. Zac is from my town, so I've been curious about him...but his music sure is bland and innocuous. The Jimmy Buffet of country music....yuck.
