jamie oldaker - who held the job as clapton's drummer in the mid-to-late 70's had a great tension/release style that always pleased me and found drumming on my knees in a drumalong. long forgotten now, but he definitely had a unique feel and style....

I listed 5 a while back when this thread began, but I'd like to add a name:

Winston Grennan - for his drumming on classic tracks by Toots and The Maytals, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Desmond Dekker & many other ska & reggae greats.

I can't understand how anyone could choose the two Dead drummers. Those yahoos were always the weak link in the band and often weren't even playing in synch (Kreutzmann ahead of the beat and Hart behind it). The Grateful Dead were the only band that succeeded in spite of its drummers.

surprised how often Max Weinberg is cited here... to me, the guy has a leaden feel.

I'm not surprised at all. One of rock's best!

Jimmy Chamberlin.

Ronnie Tutt has always been my favorite drummer.
Topper from the Clash. Somebody mentioned Chamberlin from the Pumpkins; good call.
The James Brown drummers: Stubblefield and Starks and Melvyn Parker.
The drummers for the Funk Bros too.
And the guy who plays for Wilco; lame band but great drummer.

drummers are like left tackles - they are doing a brilliant job if nobody notices them.

...not a very 'unique' selection, but one I'd take a stand for in court:

("besides Charlie Watts"...)
John Bonham
Keith Moon
Mitch Mitchell
Ringo
Sly Dunbar

Not 1 vote(that I saw)for Martin Chambers-Pretenders.So I'll throw him in for variety,and I think he is a great drummer.

Keith Moon
Matt Cameron
Martin Chambers
Taylor Hawkins
Neil Peart

So many GREAT drummers to pick just 5.I agree with the many who picked Billy Cobham.Spectrum still blows me away every time I listen to it

I listened to 461 Ocean Boulevard about 10 times last week, and yeah, Oldaker's drumming is great! The whole band was in a fine groove throughout the album...I hadn't listened to it in a few years and had forgot how good it was.
