Quoteriverrat No, they are not a clone of the Stones. They sound nothing like them. The lead singers both have large mouths, and that's about it. Steven Tyler, btw, is doing a great job on AI. He has a heart of gold and is an incredibly nice person . I agree 100%. I don't watch the show regularly, but I watched a few episodes with him and J -Lo and was very impressed with t

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 Well, I think for us most the stories are fascinating. I could read a book the making of each Stones album. But I think several albums have very exciting stories surrounding them. "Satanic" with the drugbusts, and the bizarre direction they were taking. Also each day must have been thrilling with London bustling and Cream, Beatles, Marriott, Hendrix all dro

BOLD SOUL SISTER is a great cd. It is a collection of Ike & Tina's best recordings for the Blue Thumb label, all from the late '60s. ITs extremely raw and bluesy. Ike is on fire on these recordings, and Tina is in top form too.

Quotemitchflorida I guess there might be some similiarites, but Hair of the Dog doesn't remind me anything about Day Tripper , and the vocal is completely opposite of Lennon.s Well of course the vocals in Day tripper and Hair of the Dog are completely different - I wasn't talking about the vocals. I was talking about how the guitar riffs start out, which are the same first 5 note

Jagger totally ripped off the line "She comes in colors" from Arthur Lee's Love. Quotemitchflorida Didn't the Stones sort of rip-off Day Tripper when they recorded Satisfaction? Check out the dancing girls in this video. The riff for NAzareth's Hair of the Dog is very similar to this, just played with a lot more attitude (the first 4 or 5 notes are the same,

Quoteblack limousine QuoteHis Majesty Yeah Perry is like a mix of Page and Keef. That's what I think too. They got that rock attitude, but in the studio - in some song -sometimes you hear a sort of beatles poppish melody in the back of the song. They assembly sonds from the holy bands (stones zep beatles). Anyway they great, I love them. Joe Perry's favorite guitarist is Jeff Beck,

Here's a band that I recently discovered. Some will hate them, due to the rap aspect, but the bluegrass/rootsy side of them is amazing! I think its a very interesting mix of styles: EDIT: HEre's some more Hank Williams III for ya:

Quotehumanriff77 Inspired by this thread I just played Never Mind The Bollocks at full blast for the first time in a year or so its still one of the greatest records ever made 34 years later, vinyl dynamite. Its one of my all time favorite rock 'n' roll albums - one of the purest distillations of the rock 'n' roll spirit IMO. People always think of Johnny Rotten and Sid f

HEADS UP PEOPLE - I just bought the regular edition of this book today at BORDERS for $5.99 !!! (it was originally priced at $35). It was in the 'Bargain' section. I take it the super expensive edition was signed & limited? It is indeed an incredible book, and Mr. Russell's photos are SUPERB. A very thorough record of the Stones activities from about when Mick Taylor join

QuoteNikolai QuoteTitle5Take1 I love the Sex Pistols, and if it weren't for them maybe SOME GIRLS (my favorite Stones album) wouldn't have be what it is. From Barbara Charone's Keith biography p. 175. "Jagger has kept a watchful eye on the British punk scene, imitating them in song and gesture in the studio." The Ramones were American punk and Mick was obviously ins

QuoteEleanor Rigby Quoteparislocksmith Love the Pistols as a band and a phenomenon but any sympathy I may have felt for Sid Vicious vanished when I saw the part of Who Killed Nancy where (I think) Matlock's friend recounted how Vicious used his belt to strangle a cat. Not quite right in the head, obviously. Also, Lydon's account of his 'food preparation' in his autobiography i

QuoteDiamondDog7 QuoteKeefan How about Sister Morphine? That's a scary song!! LOL There's an air of doom to that song that strikes me as rather sad. "This shot will be my last", and all that.

I don't idolize Sid by any means, but there's a strong argument to be made that Sid wasn't the one who killed Nancy. There's even a movie about this.

QuoteThe Stones Quote24FPS I find it ironic that Jack White's weakest moment was in 'Shine A Light'. I think Jack did fine on Loving Cup. What a great honor to share microphone with Jagger and Jack sure did seem to appreciate the situation. That's actually one of my fave moments on Shine A Light, although I detest the way Jagger sings "Yes, I'm fumbling and I kno

This news is indeed a drag. Oh well, at least Jack has been giving us a lot of other music. I've really been digging the new Wanda Jackson cd he produced. I think it would be fantastic if he were to produce a Stones record...I'm going to keep my fingers crossed, and go make another sacrifice to my Rock'n'Roll pagan idol, in order to bribe the gods to at least think about i

Damn. I remember being in my first car,a '64 VW bug, stuck in traffic while a presidential motorcade was going by, and hearing on the radio that he had died. I'll never forget that. I've got a bootleg of the Pistols' first US gig, in Atlanta. There are several songs where Sid is just not playing...guess he went to the bar or the bathroom or something.

QuoteBrue Quote24FPS Buy the DVD and you get the whole performance, plus James Brown, Chuck Berry, Lesley Gore and more. Whenever I watch it I notice they don't even show Bill until the 2nd number. And then during 'Time Is On My Side' they cut completely away from Brian's hands during the whole solo, leaving the question of whether he did indeed do it. (I think he did). Brian

My first album was 'Don Kirschner's Rock Power" - a compilation of early 70s rock hits. It had 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath on it, and 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' by Alice Cooper on it. I bought 'Children of the Grave' by Sabbath and Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits very shortly afterward.

Since "Not Fade Away" is a Buddy Holly song, I guess that makes it sort of 'rockabilly' too. (although maybe his music transcended the genre?)

Quotedcba The Ramones : Mosrite + Marshall. They were my first thought (the only time they varied a lot from their basic sound was when Phil Spector produced that one album. Acoustic guitars on a RAMONES album?!? WTF?) The Ventures stayed very true to their sound also, except for a while in the late seventies when they went disco on some tracks.
