i believe it was the Rolling Stone mag review of Slow Train Coming in 1979 that suggest Gonna Change My Way of Thinking was the Stonesiest sounding song Bob had ever recorded. having Sexton on hand made alot to do with him playing this, no doubt...

disappointing...just when i was thinking of hitting the sunday/berkeley show, he falls back into old patterns....

I was there in Portland last night. Very good show, great to see Charlie Sexton back in the band. Charlie and Bob have a bit of the Mick and Keith camaraderie thing going on. Plus Bob busted out a few "Stage Moves".

Terrific Ballad of a Thin Man, very intense with a kind of '50's film noir vibe to it.

Next up is The Pogues on Sunday.

Just returned from the 1st Berkeley show & Bob was excellent...and those new moves everyone is talking about ?....no doubt in my mind that he's been inspired by Leonard Cohen....if you've ever seen Leonard Cohen in concert, you know exactly what I'm talking about...but this is good...nice to see Bob standing in front of his mic with just his harp & using some body english to add drama to his lyrics...very nice & the crowd went nuts for this...loved it...now if we can just get him to tell a great story or two in the set,we'll all be thrilled even more....because I believe, he does a couple of good stories....Peter

Just got back from the Berkeley show.
The best I've ever seen/heard him. He sang clearly. You could understand
every word this time. His harp playing was fantastic.
Surprises were Momma, You've Been On My Mind and a terrific version
of Hattie Carrol. Great to see Sexton back with him, too.
He's more animated now onstage than I've ever seen him.
When he's center-stage singing with just his harp, it was incredible.
I hope he keeps the intensity up for the rest of the tour.

Really makes me want to finally hear a recording of one of the fall shows (not to speak of seeing him live myself)!
And usually those university shows tend to have quite a good sound quality! Can't wait...

Well, as hes only now really started to play about 4 songs a night off Together Through Life, 6 months after it came out, I reckon we should bet on hearing the Christmas tunes sometime around Easter 2010.
