The vinyl sounds better, but slightly. I guess a 16 bit cd master (instead of a higher rez. source) was used for the vinyl. Sound is good, nontheless.

the pops and crackles sound better on the vinyl, i think...though, again, i haven't listened to the cd version yet....

I guess Bob and his band need to rehearse the new songs on Together Through Life, and they're too busy performing gigs, at least for several more days. It was nice to see that he played guitar on four songs at the May 3 show.

4. The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll (Bob on keyboard and harp)
5. The Levee's Gonna Break (Bob on keyboard)
6. Workingman's Blues #2 (Bob on keyboard and harp)
7. Ballad Of Hollis Brown (Bob on keyboard)
8. Visions Of Johanna (Bob on keyboard and harp)
9. Honest With Me (Bob on keyboard)
10. Every Grain Of Sand (Bob on keyboard and harp)
11. Highway 61 Revisited (Bob on keyboard)
12. Ain't Talkin' (Bob on keyboard)
13. Thunder On The Mountain (Bob on keyboard)

15. All Along The Watchtower (Bob on keyboard)
16. Spirit On The Water (Bob on keyboard and harp)
17. Blowin' In The Wind (Bob on keyboard and harp)

A truly fantastic evening. Of the 8 or so times I've seen Dylan only the 95 tour topped this one. He was in sparkling form. He sang every line like his life depended on it. There was no "going through the motions".

Highlights were Hollis Brown, Visions of Johanna, and a wonderful reading of Workingmans Blues - with some new lyrics!!! It was like he knew he was playing in an old industrial city which has had the heart ripped out of it by recession. He poured everything into it.

Come back soon Bob....

Can anyone that was in attendance recall on which song(s) he pulled out the guitar ?

It's noted in the setlist you quoted: Boots Of Spanish Leather (Bob on guitar)

Yes, but was that the only one ? Two days later (May 3rd) he played guitar on four songs, at least that is what someone reported.

I read on boblinks, that he played those four songs on guitar in order to save the show from ruin, Stu being totally inconsistant pn his guitar playing. Don't know if it's true though. Lots of people are often disappointing by Dylan's gig.

No, that's not true. The band were all very good at Edinburgh.
The gig was great, as was the venue with it's intimacy - which Dylan and the band must have particularly enjoyed. So I think that's why he gave us 4 on the guitar. (I think he was having trouble with his left hand on the last of the four, however).

Anyone who went to both Glasgow and Edinburgh must be very happy.

Trouble with his left hand ? You mean remembering the right chords or was the problem down to a physical impairment ?

There's ALWAYS a weak link for hardcore Dylan fans. It was Freddy Koella in 2003, now it's Stu...
Ironically the same people now love Freddy crazy licks and solos. Guess why Bob stays away from his fans winking smiley

Lightnin,

He was playing a fairly straightforward repeated lead phrase - but I think his fingers were locking - or he was in pain with them - anyway, he couldn't get it quite right - and he pulled his left hand away from the fretboard and shook it a couple of times to loosen his fingers. It was towards the end of the song, (Just Like A Woman)

The tour is over, but I'll use this thread one more time to recommend you a bootleg that is (still) available on Dime:

If you can (and are interested): go and get the 2002 show at Wiltern Theatre! Perfect sound, a mighty fine setlist and, above all, a wonderful and powerful performance through and through.
I especially enjoy Seeing the real you at last, Floater, Tell me that it isn't true, Tombstone Blues and the wonderful 4 cover songs he played that night (Brown Sugar, Mutineer, Old Man, End of Innocence).

IIRC there were several nights at the Wiltern. Can you give us more details?

You're right of course. I did not specify it further because there is only one Wiltern show seeded on Dime at the moment.

I'm talking about the first evening, October 15 which you can find exactly here: Dimeadozen - Wiltern Theatre October 15, 2002
