Sway - Thanks so much for posting. There are some amazing insights here. "Keith was really not sure about Woody, because he felt that Woody played too much like him, and that it wouldn't sound good. But Mick and I wanted Woody. The other guys were rather undecided." It is perhaps the first time I have seen someone state that Woody was Jagger (and Stu's) choice and that

Nice article. Apologies if it has been posted before ‘Some Girls,’ Some 33 Years Later: Jagger & Richards Talk Punk, Disco, and Confiscated Cover Art By Lyndsey Parker | Maximum Performance – 15 hours ago ew Rolling Stones albums have held up as sonically, and still sound as gritty and urban and sexy and just downright cool, as their 1978 disco/punk/country/blues masterwork, Some

Quotepmk251 Generally speaking and as far as I can tell, Keith is the more interesting songwriter. His songs have a subject. He often works around a central theme or metaphor. He likes to play with words. He shows a heart. He shows vulnerability. His songs can touch me. I do not think he throws around words and hopes they stick. Very often his two only songs are the only ones in the show

QuoteStonesTod QuoteWilliamPatrickMaynard All depends on what we get. Allegedly "Fiji Jim" had new lyrics and vocals added at the time they did "So Young." That would turn out fine I imagine. As for 2011 overdubs, if it was comparable to "Pass the Wine" or "Plundered My Soul" I wouldn't complain. Happily, I think SOME GIRLS offers more selections and m

American cheese and Bologna -- what baloney. Maybe Dave Stewart will see another shining light on the top of a hill and in a flash, a brilliant idea will emerge. Stewart will attempt to create a new kind of restaurant, unlike anything done before where one could experiment and blend various cuisines from cultures across the globe - Jamaican, Indian, English, soul food.... and he will call on

Good points Doxa. I have now listened to it five or six times and sadly, my conclusions are that this album has few to no merits whatsoever. There is absolutely nothing new or interesting here. Jagger’s vocals are fine with me but his musical presence is everywhere and often detracts from the rather competent performances of the others. Jagger also seems to be the main composer. Most of the

Quoteelunsi No discussion about the "not everyone sees the big picture"? He clearly means Keith here. And the other things he said about recollections tell me that they probably don´t laugh about all that. Jagger is clearly referring to Keith here. Overall, there seems to be no humor left between Jagger and Richards ‘I don’t know if Keith really listens to that much. I don’t know

if "Wandering Spirit" was a "Rolling stones" Album...... there would be quite a few folks here acknowledging it to be one of the top five Stones releases. Some others would insist that it was 80% Keith. A few more would insist that Richards should have sung Angel in My Heart in that fine singing heartfelt voice of his. Richards would mutter something under his breath for abo

It seems that the feud between the founding members of the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, is not passing the test of time as a new one boils up a year before the band's 5

QuoteBliss A funny and witty review. But a defense of Mick is not needed. As far as I can recall - and it's a long way - Mick has never sought to ingratiate himself or even explain himself to the public. You can take him as you find him, or take him or leave him, as you choose. A much better accolade to Mick is Ron Rosenberg's paean to his songwriting skills. I posted it once here, b

The longer version (~9 minute) of Everything's Turning To Gold might be a good addition. Would be nice to hear both the shorter and the longer versions more evenly balanced throughout the song. The versions available on CD all have some pretty bad sound engineering with some random fade outs in the middle of the song. Somewhat ruins what could have been a classic

There was thread here some time back about an anti-keith vibe on this board. A poster (bianca) made an astute comment - he/she was surprised that it took so long for an anti-keith vibe to set in. Keith's brain has been fried for too long. Sadly, no support system could have reversed this exponentially progressive decline in time. The post 73 Keith is just an idea. The anti Keith vibe sho

Quotestupidguy2 QuoteJair Out of Focus, absolutely! Very powerfull!!! If it had been on a Stones album, we'd be talking about it being a latter-day Stones classic. Flea's bass takes it to another level and having Billy Preston on it makes it very special to me.....seeming to harken back to the gospel leanings ala Exile. And Jagger's voice is fantastic, no whine, just real emot

QuoteHis Majesty The word genius is used far to easily! Noone in the stones or even the pop/rock world was or is in anyway a genius. The word genius really is archaic and borrows from references to individuals in the romantic and renaissance eras of Western Civilization. Catch as Catch Can is far from the best but is still simply a gem of a song. Suprisingly underated even by Jagger fans. Nice use of the idiom for a song title. Nice guitars and wonderful horns. Jimmly Miller or Rubin or Mark Ronson's production could have elevated this to classic status

Quotemtaylor Here is more: Will be interesting to see how the CD will be received - specially in India where Rahman is huge. I was most intrigued to hear how Rahman would fit in. The carnatic bit that that he added to this song is excellent. It sounds like an outro in this short clip. There is a "raaga reggae" element to this song that, at least to my ears, is conceptually nov
