If criteria is artists song integrity (I mean not simple copy/paste song), as for example was Cat Power's - Satisfaction or Johnny Cash's - No Expectations

Streets Of Love by Matthew Ryan sound quite interesting ... found it after JJF finished.

Hard to beat this, as cover versions go. They even get the promo version 'yeah yeah' bit in the intro.

I always liked this one, I'm sure Brian would have loved it.

This Ananda Shankar cover of JJF is simply FANTASTIC though his cover of "Light My Fire" is far less interesting.

I remember listening to Ravi Shankar on NPR ~ 8-10 years ago and he talked about his own range of influences including Western classical music, jazz and French (cinema and language). He also talked a bit about his family. What was striking in all of this was that for someone with as deep and impressive a musical ancestry as Ravi Shankar, he pointedly referenced his nephew Ananda Shankar who he noted was brilliant.

Ananda Shankar was really the first in India to bridge EAST-WEST melodies. Though I was really young then, I still remember with immense clarity, his impressive EAST WEST dance and music choreographies on Indian television and particularly his fusion of Indian and Western Classical music.

He was way ahead of his time as Ravi Shankar noted in his NPR interview and sadly quite under recognized even in India. This version of JJF is a landmark in "World Music" way before the terminology became popular and/or cool. What a song - what a version!!!

Marko my intention, when started a post, was exactly same as you say.. Not copy/paste song as Winter or Frampton. But my English is broken, or some people don't read carefully.
One more example Randon Daughters - Child Of The Moon

maybe i don't understand. are you saying the winter version sounds exactly like the stones version and has no artistic merit?

I never got why the Aretha Franklin version was supposed to be any good. It's bland at best if you ask me.
This is much better IMO:

Also, Leon Russell did a far more country flavoured version than the rocky Bangladesh Benefit one. My dad has it on a DVD, and that's my fave cover version of JJF, but I can't find it on YouTube.

Flamin Groovies version is the best attempt at an uncoverable song, no one can duplicate the power of the Stones masterpiece and certainly no one can come close to the rythmn guitar playing on that song.
