Quotebestfour QuoteRingo I've long regarded the Gimme Shelter from Wembley Empire Pool the day after, Sept. 9th, to be rock music's greatest moment. Anyway, here they are, this is how they were, the day before this monumental moment! 5&feature=plpp_video When you say 2nd show do you mean the mattine show they did back then, I think it was 3pm, because I was at that an

QuoteJustin QuoteRobertJohnson What a difference to the version from LA Friday. People still posting this? I mean, honestly, you're going to compare two performances, twenty-eight years apart? How else was it supposed to sound? Talkin' about the LA Friday version, I've actually uploaded it on Youtube!

QuoteRobertJohnson Sorry, a document of decline, lousy, poor guitar work, no energy and power, any cover band is able to do it better. What a difference to the version from LA Friday. Please, every version has its own things to give, and I love the 75 versions as much as anyone. But the point is that this version also has some great things, and the intensity they build up is just great. No en

QuoteWorriedAboutYou Turned it off as soon as Jagger started singing. Horrible. Then you miss something. Mick's voice is of course not what it was. But still, he and Lisa and the band makes great music here, mainly because of the rhythm & the intensity.

Tribute bands are made of people that love the bands. And when you hear other people's versions, you understand better what the songs can be for other people. And that makes you understand the songs better. Here's an example of this from a Swedish TV programme, a great Honky Tonk Women:

We all "know" that popular music is not as good as it was (in the 60s/70s). Why? I don't think the problem is that all good melodies have been invented already, to put it that way. Chess is an example. There the number of different games is definitely finite, and the number of sensible or good games is much more finite. But chess seems to be still alive and well. One possi

Rod Stewart opened his first solo album in 1969 with a version of Street Fighting Man: Excellent, isn't it? I love both the album and this version. What's your favourite cover of a Stones song?

I get annoyed when someone says a Stones record is overrated. They are all underrated, as far as I am concerned!

He writes: "Leaving aside a disappointing go at Gimme Shelter (which has never worked live, even then), ..." Which planet does he live on? He has probably never heard the versions from Wembley Sept. 9, 1973 (my all time rock favourite), or Philadelphia 1972, or Amsterdam 1995. The latest one:

Great! Fine video, fine song. It's not a fantastic song, but better than almost everything else around these days. And Mick did a perfect job, I think.

I'm the one that uploaded this Hand of Fate! I love it, it's my favourite version, like to call it the toughest piece of music ever played. Never has Mick sounded more cynical, hard. Keith's guitar has the same feel & atmosphere. And Ronnie plays well. Love it!
