I love the start, and the intensity later:

Allow me to start the ball rolling on the comments you should expect here:

"Ugh, Keith sucks!"
"This would be good if Keith and Ronnie stopped posing."
"I hate the Vegas era"
"Mick should have ditched the Stones a long time ago."
"Typical crap...the Stones playing to a looped track of the intro because Keith can't play it himself."
"Charlie plays the same beat on every song!"
"Is Blondie actually playing the guitar instead of Keith?"
"Lisa's fat."
"I wish I was watching Mick singing this song with the Foo Fighters backing him up."

You're welcome.

Hmm.. Justin, don't be so jaded about the opinions of the fellow Rolling Stones fans...grinning smiley

But what goes for me, I simply find Lisa Fischer irrestible... she's one of the sexiest packages ever entered to stage.. Her stage presence - voice, moves. looks - are simply stunning. She owns that version of "Gimme Shelter". The song withour her.. eye popping smiley

You know, on the very short list of women I would leave my wife for, Lisa Fischer is on that list. Those legs are powerhouses. A sexual dynamo in every conceivable way. Plus, she can sing, too.

Turned it off as soon as Jagger started singing. Horrible.

Then you miss something. Mick's voice is of course not what it was. But still, he and Lisa and the band makes great music here, mainly because of the rhythm & the intensity.

Sorry, a document of decline, lousy, poor guitar work, no energy and power, any cover band is able to do it better. What a difference to the version from LA Friday.

Please, every version has its own things to give, and I love the 75 versions as much as anyone. But the point is that this version also has some great things, and the intensity they build up is just great. No energy? That's simply not true.

People still posting this?

I mean, honestly, you're going to compare two performances, twenty-eight years apart? How else was it supposed to sound?

Lisa is stunning. Charlie and Darryl are doing their duties. Good recording. But Mick's voice is just horrible and the guitarwork is sloppy and incoherent.

Awesome version of the greatest rock n roll song ever recorded.

Frankly, shut the hell up. Your feigned indifference impresses no one.

And besides, you aren't allowed to say any of those things - they aren't on Justin's list...

I've been amusing myself working out the logistics of exactly when and where in that video Mick, Keith and Ronnie manage to change costume - by the end Charlie is the only one wearing the same shirt he had on at the beginning. But then I didn't spend the whole song looking at Lisa - although Keith's little dance down the walkway is equally lots of fun for us Keithettes.

(yes, LA Friday is fantastic, isn't it - I'm driving about with that blasting from the car stereo at the moment)

I love Keith's solo from GS in Bremen 98. They did lots of great versions of GS after 1989.

Yes, I agree, my favorite Stones record in the moment, although MJ's vocals are very strange sometimes, but this raw energy and power is singular in Rock history, the guitar work by Keith and Ronnie is fantastic, it is the defintion of right-in-your-face-guitars. The versions of MR and SFTD are above the versions from GYYYO in my opinion. The rhythm section with Ollie Brown is on top, too ...
