Rod Stewart opened his first solo album in 1969 with a version of Street Fighting Man:

Excellent, isn't it? I love both the album and this version. What's your favourite cover of a Stones song?

The ending really gets more into the Stones type sound. Nicky Hopkins?

Brilliant album. Quite a run Rod had...his first 4 solo records are all true classics.

Amazing. I have had this album since it was released and somehow I always thought it was Nicky on the piano for SFM. Clear as can be, the liner notes spell it all out with Mac getting the credit. Any yes, this was a very, very good album.

Great version! So sleezy and bluesy. The bridge between the firs and second part sounds like We Love You! Another sly tribute to our boys.

Favourite cover of a Stones tune: two

1. Lets Spend The Night Together by Muddy Waters on Electric Mud

2. Jumpin Jack Flash by Arnand Shankir

Great version by Rod.

Nobody was bigger than Rod back then.

Except the Rutles.

Rod wasn't big at all back in 1969. He was struggling after leaving the Jeff Beck Group.

Yes. They were more or less Faces albums. Combine those with the three Faces LP's and we begin to see the genius of Ronnie Wood. Seven solid albums.

Probably just a rumour that went around at the time, but I remember the word being that there was a version of The Girl Can't Help It that got bumped in favor of Street Fighting Man on the Rod Stewart Album, or, Thin, which was the actual name of the LP. Thin is found in small lettering at the bottom of the cover.
