8 mm film from Wembley Empire Pool, Sept. 8th, 1973 (2nd show)

I've long regarded the Gimme Shelter from Wembley Empire Pool the day after, Sept. 9th, to be rock music's greatest moment.

Anyway, here they are, this is how they were, the day before this monumental moment!

I was at that very show and have a disstorted recording on my cassette player, i think mine is more distorterd than this. I still remember Mick whipping the stage with his belt.

Great clips! One could only dream of further releases from '73. A dvd with film- and tv-clips. A box set from Europe '73. Empire Pool and the Copenhagen-shows (to mention a few) contain peak performances that ought be avaible officially like the magnificent Brussels affair. And a book - there are great photos by Ian Dickson and Jørgen Angel and many others that deserve to published more fully to document this tour peak.

All they need is some backing singers and it's much the same set up as the vegas era stones. grinning smiley

1963-1967 Stones basically had the same set up as The Monkees, btw

Wow,this is great! Between this and the all Stones concert day on Palladia, I am one happy camper, just have to keep my family from complaining. They do get tired of my Stones obsession, which i can't understand.
Thanks, Kleermaker! smiling smiley

I remember seeing...hearing other fantastic performances of
"Gimme Shelter" "Brown Sugar" and "Midnight Rambler" before 1973.

For example, I can still hear the sound of that belt in several 1970 concerts.

I’m not sure why posters here are surprised by His Majesty’s responses, here. He can’t get past the fact that the Stones rhythm guitarist got the chop and the Stones became a better and more accomplished live act as a result. We all know this by now, surely?

Better? Lol! No, they simply became more of a predictable blues rock band.

No Taylor era show is really better than, for example, the TAMI show. winking smiley

Not surprised about his opinion, just surprised that he needs to keep on posting this silliness in each and every thread which is about Rolling Stones in the Taylor era

He's just like that now banned poster who posted Taylor is fat jokes in each and every thread about Taylor's playing. It's just spam, actually. It's just utterly boring to read these repetations, I'd say.

Less boring than the Taylor widdling that gets posted in just about any thread about Jones or Wood. grinning smiley

When you say 2nd show do you mean the mattine show they did back then, I think it was 3pm, because I was at that and then back that night for the evening show, great concerts, Goats Head Soup was the new album, great memories Empire Pool is now Wembley Arena drinking smiley

Yes, the second show must be the same as the evening show. So you were there? What do you remember?

Running down to the front of the stage, standing up on the arms of the seats with dozens of others singing along to every number, my eye's glued to the band, Mick throwing buckets of water on us, giant balloons at the end of the gig ( I still have a bit of one of those balloons when it burst} oh they were the days drinking smiley
