Best Keith mistakes
Date: October 7, 2005 21:21

Last night I had a listen to columbus 2005 ... aw God! I thought when I heard the first chords of "Brown sugar" ...

Another big fuckup was the Keith solo in "Sympathy for the Devil" in Johannesburg 1995 ... so out of key, it's impossible to describe...

The pervert I am, I tend to like these versions more than the polished ones because they sound like real rock! It's like when the COC misses the CUN while FUC! Something's happening!

Yes, Vredenburg comes to mind first. I sort of feel honoured to have witnessed it! Another good one was the opening of BS - or whatever it was supposed to be - three days later in the Amsterdam ArenA.

Gimme shelter, Wembley 99.
Satisfaction january, 16th 2003 (my birthday) : Keith begins the intro twice then turns to Mick and Ron saying "i know how to play this song" then smiles.
I was almost behind the stage close to the brass players and i could read it on the lips. Awesome souvenir for my birthday...

slightly off topic...but on the stones bootleg "happy birthday nicky" from australia '73, Charlie Watts gets off the beat to gimme shelter for about the first 1/2!!! of the song...the band keeps waiting for him to get back on the beat but it takes him an unbelievable amount of time!...and the irony of that is during the introductions of the band, mick introduces "charlie watts, never misses a beat" before they played gimme shelter

Fedex Field, DC, 1997. Keith started to play Brown Sugar, then did a quick doubletake when realizing he was supposed to intro Start Me Up, which he then did. You could see him looking at Charlie and trying not to laugh.

One particularly amazing Keith goof can be heard clearly on the historic boot 'LiveR Than You'll Ever Be.' On Live With Me, beginning with the second verse, KR somehow starts playing the guitar line one beat behind, and continues to do this for quite some time! Bill Wyman, Mick T. and Charlie just keep rockin', and eventually Keith figures it out and makes the correction. But it really makes you wonder what he was on; I mean, to play that rather involved guitar line so precisely, and so precisely one beat behind everybody else, well, it must have been some very good dope.

BS seems to be be K's favorite one to fuckup - he botched the opening riff at PacBell '02 as well.

I travelled from NY to see the Amsterdam ArenA show. I couldn't believe that he @#$%& up the first chords of the first song of the night. I couldn't even recognize it, although part of that might have been due to the god awful sound in that place!

Like A Rolling Stone in Cologne 1999 - Keith was learning a new song AND Memory Motel at the same concert. he really f...ed it up

Well, for one he started on Satisfaction instead of Shattered in MSG some weeks ago. And he played You got me rockin instead of If you can't rock me at the Globen in Stockholm 2003, leaving Ronnie to play air guitar for half of the song! Nice and spontanious. :-)

And Gimmie Shelter at Wembly 99 got Mick to outburst: Keith, what you're doin'?

I love those things, because it shows everybody that they're not on autopilot. It's only rock'n roll!

>Yes, Vredenburg comes to mind first. ...<

I thought Keith f*cked up BS at the time, but listening to the boot it seems that in the opening everybody gets a bit confused but once the guitars are in line Mick messes it up entirely by starting to sing the fist verse two bars too early. It takes the rest of the band some time to adjust.

But in all it was my all time high

Hope to be able to attend a club gig again.

You should have heard him just around midnight

I think he butchered the opening of Start Me Up in Toronto a week and a half ago.

Those rough edges to his performances add to the performance, too polished can get a tad boring. It's a genuine swagger.

Ahoy 2003, BS .. what is so difficult about BS intro that he f@cks up so much?

It's anyway strange that the band takes so long to recover from a mistake. It seems they are not listening to each other much.

You have to slide it up and down the neck. You easily slip into the wrong fret.

>> She's So Cold at Wembley 1982 <<

the look on Keith's face! and the way Mick hovers there waiting for Keith & Charlie to work out who's following who out of this mess - LoFL!
beautiful. those are real rock & rollers all right. :E

I have a bootleg live in the usa 1975, its almost impossible for him to sing happy, but funny enough its still a good version(mick backs him up)and the band rocks, but it still is a keith @#$%& up!but he gets away with it, becouse in that time it was a miricle that he for example never missed a show, and still had verry good times oa with ronnie.and now he's up there better than ever!
