Who are you referring to when you say your "boys"?

It is unclear whether both gonads and chops are required; some believe one or the other will suffice.

Are the stones both the boys and the lads? If not, are we the lads?

new people are treated with suspicion verging on paranoia on here

Seriously..."my boys" ??

No wonder the replies...

I'm always suspicious of posts beginning "Love them, but....". If you want to criticise, just do it. If you didn't love them, you wouldn't be here.

Anyway, has that Sympathy solo ever been successfully reproduced on stage?

Never in my 30-40 lifetime (in person at) Stones shows has he ever played it note for note perfect, but Keith has come close 3-4 times... but another 10-15 times it was like he didnt even try. It is all part of their "thing", it is always different, which is why setlist watching/snarking is silly, it is always a different show.

... Why does anyone think the aim is to reproduce what's on the record?
That's what records are for. Shows are *supposed* to sound different from that.

If the OP simply means he didn't like Keith's playing on SftD and Gimmie Shelter in Atlanta,
maybe he'll enjoy the discussions on the complaint thread. That's what it's for.

They dont have to reproduce everything note for note like it is on the record, but that particular guitar riff is pretty famous and sounds really cool when it is played like it (at least close) is on the record... and sounds butchered when it is butchered, and I have heard it butchered. But it is not a huge deal, whatever Keith wants to do is OK.

Yeap, just what Mick says here at 5:34, but the whole interview, which starts at 5:00 is something the OP should see :-)

Would you please explain this to Bob Dylan? Sorry for being off topic, but reading your post, I just can't help it. I like the man, I sort of enjoy his shows, but it would be really refreshing to hear the "old" songs being played in the "old" way. I think that nowadays it would be much bigger surprise and re-invention that all those constant re-inventions he is famous for and which are something that is automatically said whenever Bob is mentioned, but they have been virtually non-existent for many years.

Again, sorry for being off topic :-)

Maybe if we adress him as ROBERT!!! he will pay closer attention and maybe actually do what we ask? winking smiley

I have lost complete track of Bob. I saw him a couple of years ago and not only did I not understand a single word he mumbled, but as you say, some songs were "a little bit different".

ROBERT!!!

If you mean the SftD solo: Sure, there have been some unimpressive renditions;
I personally even think there was a phase in there when Keith's playing on SftD
was his form of protest against the current arrangement. But that's a different issue.
Solos are supposed to allow the soloist to do something creative. They can blow us away
without reproducing what's on the record. Or not, as the case may be.

Thats the one smiling smiley

And facts be known I have never come close to being mad or even miffed about how he plays it, I actually found it all kind of amusing. My now gone concert partner and I used to have a a fun thing with it, all part of the good times. Sometimes when it would come time for Keith to play that part we would look at each other and brace ourselves... and then either Keith would butcher it or come close to playing it perfectly or something in between and then we would hold up fingers 1-10 to rate his solo grinning smiley and then we would guffaw or chortle, depending on which country we were in, cheers a toast and keep having fun. I miss having a regular concert buddy for that type of stuff.

My complaint is there is only one show to go after a very fun four months of STONES TOUR TIME. I hope they come back soon, they seem jet, set and ready to play live for years, keep it going Mick!!

Do a short tour from Denver into parts of the U.S. Southwest from there. Then head up to the Northwest and down the West coast.

Do you think the reason new people don't stay long on iorr or people that have been here a long time don't post very often because its like an old boys club taken over by about 20 regular posters.
I noticed yesterday some of you saying to BV that you think it should be run by a few of you long time posters , like a committee ( heaven forbid )
I don't want some of you on here deciding my fate thank you very much.
I realise a lot of you will not appreciate what i'm saying here, but its the people that don't post very often, that still get excited about this band and its music.
I just struggle to understand, why out of thousands of members on here, only about 30 or 40 regularly post.

I've got a complaint...

I am thoroughly pissed off at the lack of American tour dates left on the Zip Code Tour.
