Why are you guys being so grouchy?
Because the closing ceremony wasn't a Stones concert or a tribute to them.

You mean you stayed up through 2 of the worst shows they ever tried to force you to watch right in the middle of the closing ceremonies?

Not me, way past my bedtime, I knew they were holding off showing the ending, I hadn't realized they'd been cutting out bits along the way

the closing ceremony was a bit weird. newspaper jackhammers?? overwieghtt batman out of a blown up car? huh?

seeing raymond douglas davies though was fantastic, however the sound quality was atrocious. but 'waterloo sunset' is a great track so i sang along anyway at home. was the high point of the show, for me

and Eric Idle singing about crucifixion! though I wish the song were actually something like “Every sperm is sacred,” but anyway eric idle and roller skating nuns to me was the MOST british thing shown on that program

George Michael’s auto-tune was still on as he spoke between his two songs, so his voice glitched out as if he’d breathed helium..

why were the Kaiser Chiefs singing a Who song?

i was watching nbc and didnt see the real Who, they played?

who ARE the Kaiser Chefs?

or jesse j for that matter??
luckily her over-emoting was drowned out

and with Queen? what, was paul rogers on vacation?

and the spice girls standing on spice mobiles? huh? but those truck hoardings to advertise Victoria Beckham’s fashion label? interesting how you just have to scratch beneath the surface to find the ulterior motives for performing.

annie lennox on a zombie slave barge pirate ship? (scratches head) ok... whatever..

who is 'take that" ? .

The Batman and Robin joke echoed a classic scene from 'Only Fools and Horses'. The most popular British sit com of the last three decades.

The blown up car was a recreation of a scene from 'The Italian Job'.

It shouldnt take more than 10 seconds to type Take That into wikipedia and find out that they're a British band who are hugely successful. Their last tour was bigger than anything in the UK that U2 or the Stones have done. Likewise with Jessie J and Kaiser Chiefs. Not my type of music, but what country's music and culture would you expect an Olympics held in the UK to be showcasing? Or should they just tailor the ceremony so that an American TV audience or can understand all of it or just include bands that classic rock fans are familiar with?

Why are you guys being so grouchy? The ceremony was supposed to be fun "the disco after the wedding" as the director said. Didn't you even enjoy Eric Idle singing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" (with the shit lyric intact)

I don't know why the Kaiser Chiefs were chosen to do a Who song, but they were excellent - I'm not usually a fan of their stuff. The young man chosen to do the Pink Floyd song was too introverted, but I still got a thrill at the tightrope walker replicating the "Wish You Were Here" album cover.

Loved Brian May's epic guitar soloing - he IS a mad scientist, bless 'im.

It was too British for them. Maybe the way it was televised in the US didn't help if it was edited and cut up - it was very theatrical and had a flow to it - but that is hardly the fault of the UK production team.

SMUG ALERT!!

Uh oh, watch out for the smug feeling grumpys who didnt watch the Olympics and didnt participate in this thread but are now pouring in to say how much they dislike it ALL. Oh you poor poor grumpy grumps, How horrible it must have been for you to be forced to open a properly titled OT thread and forcing yourself to read it.

And now it is over you are loving telling everyone how it should have been, commenting on proper behavior and chastising people for having fun... telling people saying "HOW DARE YOU HAVE FUN HERE!!! NONE OF THAT "GO GO" HERE!! Telling other people how they should post differently and how this should not be on a music board ... ah blah blah blah blah.

SMUG ALERT!!! People feeling extra smug about themselves today!!! esp the ones who never say anything before hand about the Stones performing or not... but always showing up afterward to post how smug they feel.

Hans, you are perfect, smileys with beer you seem always seem to walk the fine line...
You are never too overly exuberant to offend the Debbie Downers here....
But you are always plenty of fun for normal people who just want to have a good time.

OMG!! People showed emotion? They cheered? They GO GO'd?
OH THE HORROR! Better keep quiet about it around here, lest you
bring out the Debbie Downers who will chastise them for having a lil fun.

Tilt-Shift photography uses a special lens to create a shallow depth of field, and make the subjects of a photo look like toy miniatures.

I did warn you that there were some jokes that needed a FOR BRITS ONLY sticker and the Batman and Robin bit was what prompted that post. I'd be interested to know if that actually was David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, as one write-up suggested - I'd assumed it must be a couple of anonymous extras in costume, but if they can get both Queen and the Queen to take part, you never know...

I thought the Brits did a great job. No, I didn't get the Batman/Robin joke, but then again, it was only a tiny portion of what happened. Somehow I blinked and missed the Who and Ray Davies or I've read a report that they showed it in the U.S. after they'd already said the ceremonies were over. Come on, the Brits put on a great show. It was great fun.

Fully knowing some of you feel "too far above it all" (too stuffy) to ever partake in such a thing (so no need to tell us, again, how superior you are feel)...

but for normal folks looking for some fun, or maybe just Looky Lou... they are auctioning off a lot of Olympic things.... from whole stadiums to small signs.

Olympics auction [memorabilia.london2012.com]

Some things are REALLY expensive, but other items are more affordable...
Here is a list from high to low [memorabilia.london2012.com] but keep checking for added items.
