Funny how they talk about Keiths famous black Fender Telecaster, while showing a picture of him with the black Tom Anderson which he used on one tour.

Uh, well I guess I'm over here now. actually I am kind of glad he moved me; felt silly to start a new thread.
But Phil, this book is amazing. The Firebird section alone..
I don;'t even know where to start reading first.
I'd scan and post, but since everyone is getting it in next few days I don't want to spoil it.

Did you contribute, Palace (or ...who else here contributed?) to get an advance copy?

Re: Rolling Stones Gear Book

This was the first section I read. Not for any real reason. I was so overwhelmed.

This pic for Phil. there are a couple good pages on Brian and the Mellotron; and of course a lot on Brian and all his instruments.

It is hard to scan because this is really a massive book. Big & heavy. Plus many of the pics of guitars e.g. go over two page fold-out.
The research that Andy B. ( and I think Greg P. too) did is incredible. They had access to inner circle. But not just with the band etc but with the manufacture co.. Lots and LOTS of specific technical knowledge and info. Like I noticed with Andy's Beatles Gear book, I really understand the huge impact and influence that Vox had in those days.
Been reading this all n ight. I know I will settle down to read it from beginning to end, but right now just jumping around. I didn't think that the newer days (97-now) would actually be so interesting. Keith and Ron's guitars are always a tale.
I saw Tayl;or and Jagger's guitar set-up next to each other, and I assumed the more sophisticated f/x boxes and pedals would be Taylor. But it was the other way around. Jagger with a bunch of pedals. Taylor really just a Phaser and Wah. Yes, Leavell's keys trigger more under the stage. Charlie doesn't want anyone changing, touching or even THINKING about his drum heads. Not even considering them, haha...
I have to leave now. But if others dont get the book today I will scan a bunch more.
I just want to extend huge thank you to Andy Babiuk; from a Stones fan to another. this is the book that needed to be done; just like this.

The book is awesome. I went to a book store to take a look at it and it looks incredible. I have it on pre-order with Amazon.com and it now says it's Sold Out.

This is a problem I have with several Stones-books. Why would Andy include such info when the scope of the book is the gear? I see the peripherial reason but still...There are several great sites dedicated exactly to getting session stuff correct. As if that is easy.
And to illustrate this stupid point further, Martin Elliot's book about the Stones sessions included a lot of live stuff which I found very irritating.
Bill Janovitz book "50 tracks" found it necessary to include all sorts of background info about the Stones to fatten the chapters about a specific song and few new revelations about the song itself.

I love all these books, but IMHO, the authors should stick to the scope of the project. It would make the books better.

Received it today. WOW!

Let's just appreciate this book for what it does right. The pictures are great and there's a lot of in-depth info. Plus we get to learn which stuff is still in posession etc.

Don't mind the minor mistakes.

I love it. So happy I bought it.

Good answer. the book is "Stones Gear". Why should there be info on unreleased cuts? I love info on the songs itself, but that is another book. And there are many of them.

Amazon seems to have dropped the ball on this one. They usually ship very promptly. I ordered this a long time ago and still no word when to expect it.

Saw it in B&N tonight.
Ends with 2008?

Anyone know what the touring "audio/visual presentation" will be--performance with a Stone's guitar?
