Soundchecks of Songs Never Played on Tour
Posted by: stonesstein ()
Date: July 16, 2014 02:09

Is anyone (perhaps BV, since he made most shows) aware of any songs that the Stones played at soundcheck but did not play during the 2013-2014 tours?

It would be interesting to note, because there have been some "close" songs in the past with

1999 - Around and Around - Sacremento (maybe?) soundcheck

2002 - Soul Survivor - Miami, Florida (maybe?) soundcheck

Anyone know of any other stuff that was soundchecked but not played on a tour?

Oops, thought the thread was about songs they did in pre-tour rehearsals, that were not performed during the tour.

Down In The Hole also one time in 1999 I believe. Got to check out www.nzentgraf.de, could be another year.

A great list but you confuse rehearsals with soundchecks. Soundchecks are at the venue on the actual day of the concert. A lot of times at soundchecks the two or three "rare" songs for that days show are played and say Tumbling Dice with Bernard on vocals.

soundchecks of songs never played on tour???

Pardon the similarity of this thread to my previous one, but after thinking about the concept of the Stones' soundchecks over the years, it struck me that it would interesting to learn what songs over the recorded Stones' history that the Stones have soundchecked but not played during various tours, not just 2013-2014.

Again, examples are:

1994 - DC opener - Slave soundchecked but never played

1999 - Around and Around and Jump on Top of Me soundchecked in California, but neither were played on tour

2002 - Soul Survivor soundchecked in Columbus, but never played

2014 - Sex Drive soundchecked but never played

Does anyone who has either spent time with or around the band over the years recall any other songs perhaps even from 69 coming forward into the 70s?

Perhaps it is just me, but this is incredibly interesting stuff.

Thanx to all for sharing.

I doubt the band soundchecked Sex Drive, when was that?

BTW, In 2007 they repeatedly played Africa by Sly & the Family Stone on rehearsals. What happened to that one?

Sex Drive was soundchecked in Zurich but as far as I know Mick, Keith, and Ronnie were missing. Sounded like some horn section preparations.

On The Biggest Bang bonus DVD they're soundchecking I Want To Be Loved. They could play it maybe in 1963 but never since.

I apologize if this has been discussed, but is this true? There is a DVD that includes the soundcheck and Sex Drive is listed. Interesting, always thought it would be cool song to play in a club setting

Hmmm...think it was 'Can't Be Satisfied', not 'I Want To Be Loved'.

Didn't they soundcheck Sex Drive in 1990, before recording it? Or the song evolved from a soundcheck jam they did in '90? Can't remember where I read that.

You're absolutely right thumbs up

BTW, the Oslo songs were rehearsals, not soundchecks.

There some other videos with Like a Rolling Stone, Bitch and You Got me Rocking from the soundcheck in Zurich.

Not sure where you read that but I'm pretty sure I saw a note about that in the Dieter Hoffman's "Weissbuch"...

Yes, but probably they found out that this song would not work on stage (at least, I don't think so). 'Winter' is another song which I cannot really imagine as a good live song, as great as the studio Version is.

Same goes for 'Have you seen your mother baby'.
