For me the question is just a few shades away from "why doesn't Charlie do more drum solos?" There's no good answer to that, except that that's not what the Stones are about: solos. They are the masters of interplay, counterpoint, and complementarity. They truly are a band, not a collection of individuals (Cream is closer to the latter than the former, to me). The

Saw McCartney in 2003 and while I thought the concert was well performed, etc., I felt very sad thinking about McCartney being the only one of his band (Wings or Beatles) to be bringing this music to the people. I compare that to the Stones with the trio of Keith, Charlie and Mick and the 30 years of Woody and was very much aware just how lucky Stones fans are, regardless of what we might think

danielb, I was lucky enough to see the aragon and tower theater show. Nothing compares to seeing the band in that kind of environment. So don't go expecting the same type of show. It won't be as intimate. On the other hand, it is the Stones so treasure them while you may, because once they're gone . . . they're gone.

Chippy, Thanks for this. I appreciate it. I'm not a big JJF fan, at least of the live versions since VL (it's one of the warhorses I could do without), but I appreciate the chance to see the clip. Thanks again.

2321. Re: HBO
I think that this is unlikely, given the similar set list and the relatively recent broadcast of the Licks show. For HBO it's tantamount to replaying programming. My guess is that HBO would rather show a different group or artist than show the Stones a second time in something like an MSG setting. The average HBO subscriber probably wouldn't see anything good about another Stones

I think it's that you see a lot of material (according to Jimmie's original post) that was a) never played live or b) never played in the States. I counted 15 from Jimmie's list that have not been played live or

It's not the number of people on stage, it's what the market will bear. The market for the Stones--in the minds of Cohl and the boys--is strong enough to sustain prices at 350-450 in North America, it's almost that simple. Similarly, they've assumed that there's a market out there that'll pay 1100-2000 for a front stage ticket and a hotel room, and they'r

I would say that the modern Stones aren't really found on an album so much as they're a result of Michael Cohl (found touring). The modern stones are the eternally touring Stones. Tours used to support albums. Now the album supports the tour. That movement to promoting the tour over the album was the moment they created the modern Rolling Stones.

RockR's right. It ends when one of the three Stones says it ends or can't go on. But who knows when that'll be? I wouldn't bet against 'em. They're tough old bastards.

2330. Bitch
Wanted to take the "bitch about the setlist" conversation in the opposite direction by asking people what their favorite addition was in the 40 Licks shows. The Stones offered a few gems and a number of real surprises, what were your top three? I'll go with Hand of Fate Stray Cat Blues, and IORR with Bono (lucky enough to have a ticket)

Ross, I agree with most of what you say but I'd suggest that a break took place with Some Girls. That was a major resurgence for the Stones. Miss You was huge. As well as a number of other tunes from the album.

Dear Doctor would be great. Telek, Try Odelay if you haven't yet. In my opinion it's the best album from the 90's.
