Interesting that Tattoo You is (to me) one of the best sounding albums, given the variety of old sources it was drawn from (which we didn't know at the time). The album is consistently crisp and sharp. I also love the mix on Exile.

QuoteTeddyB1018 I know lots of guys who know the Stones, and guys who know guys who know the Stones. I don't post something unless it's good information. While plans are famously made to cause God to laugh, the Stones have a lot of plans to play live. I do hope you're right!

Giants Stadium - 9/2005...Despite all the negativity I've read here about Keith on the ABB Tour, he was ON FIRE at this gig. This was just a great night. Seats VERY close to the stage and the sound was loud and perfectly mixed. Mick was also on fire and everything and everyone just fell into place to make a great show; not only the music, but the lighting and all was spectacular. It was pure

I also have connections.... Mick emailed me this morning. He said the Stones do having touring plans set but it's not what you think. They are touring cemetaries and so forth to pick out suitable burial places. Of course they will charge money for people to see their headstones.

I was excited for a new Stones album and hoped the first taste would be a rocker. I was kind of let down to hear FTC as the 1st single. The next song radio played was Hot Stuff. This had me worried. But then I heard the album and loved Hand of Fate, etc. FTC and Hot Stuff grew on me and I really like them now. The only song I still can't stomach is Cherry Oh Baby. It may be my least favori

QuoteDes I have never had the time and cash to ring up 100 Stones shows over my lifetime. But since the opening night of the 72 tour the Stones have been that every 5 year kicker in the head, heart, and what the hell....groin (lol) to truly enjoy the passion of a difinitive rock show. Having being raised around live music of all types this is what has turned my crank the most, Keith has woven his

Great song! If I recall the many interviews I've read, I believe Keith said this is one of the first songs he came up with after discovering open tuning.

QuoteIrelandCalling4 Finally got around to acquiring the Tokyo 1990 Archive Release last week, and have to say was very surprised - it was brilliant!! Never a huge fan of the '..Wheels' tour, maybe due to most Pro-Shots I have from that tour are very keyboard heavy and it's difficult to hear the guitars beneath. But this release has guitars up front for the most part, and it sou

Quote71Tele My take is that none of the things you mention make his keyboard playing with the Rolling Stones sound any better. I would pose a different question: Why the constant asking of why leavell isn't liked? It's simple: He sounds like crap with the Stones. Well said. The percieved admiration of Mick and Keith for Chuck mystifies me. With Chuck, the piano's role within the

Quoteab Bear in mind that Chuck would not have taken over Keith's role as band leader unless Keith allowed it to happen. Or Mick demanded it or else he wouldn't tour. Keith may have had to swallow his pride to ensure the band's survival.

I am also among the camp that feels Chuck is not the right piano player for the Stones. Having said that, he's not as bad as his haters say, but he's not as good as Jagger must feel he is. I also find it ironic that Ian Stewart personally endorsed him should anything happen to Stu. Maybe Chuck was in earshot and Stu was just trying to be nice because Chuck sounds NOTHING like Ian Ste

It's another compilation ... that alone made it a huge let-down even without knowing the tracklist. I don't understand what the big deal is

OK - I was given the "YOU try picking out 80 songs" challenge. Well, there's no way to make a set that pleases everyone, but I did this for the hell of it off the top of my head. I'm sure I would change it if I did it again... Rolling Stones - Best of 50 Years 1 Not Fade Away 2 Route 66 3 - Little By Little 4 - As Tears Go By 5 - Under My Thumb 6 - Confessi

Well, while liking a wide variety of genres is not a bad thing, I would think that this question doesn't really belong here. Her genre is not rock or anything remotely close to the Stones. I don't hate her, but her music does nothing for me. On the other hand, when Keith hammers out the opening to JJF and the rest of the Stones kick in, I'm transported to the musical place my head

Not that I didn't expect it, but now that the track listing for the new greatest hits compilation is out, I have to say that this is about the biggest let-down I've felt about my favorite band since 1964. It's not unusual for a Stones compilation to be primariliy singles but I really hoped they would rise above that this time. I mean is this the best compilation they can give us t

Remember that Mick and Keith ran the show. If keith said he wwanted to play bass because he had a good idea, Wyman knew it was futile to argue. Keith has played bass on loads of songs: Let's Spend the Night Together, JJF, Street Fighting Man, Live With Me, Casino Boogie, Happy, and a host of others I can't bring to mind. Then there's a whole bunch that Ron Wood played bass on...

QuoteHarlem Shuffler Here we go... is it just me who rates all of the then-new tracks on 40 Licks? While I don't think they are up there with the very best of the band, they are still better than most of the stuff on ABB in my opinion and yet that album gets so much praise. I can honestly say all four tracks are a pleasure to listen to. It would be a dull world if we all liked the s

It still amazes me to see post after post about the COVER! I don't give a damn about the cover! I want to see the track list before I start bitching. If it's another repackaging of singles, it will be a let down. But I would think that at least the 80 track version would include some of the great album cuts that haven't been included in prior repackagings. What if the gorilla h

I'm not trying to be snippy but how could anyone answer a question like, "Are most Stones fans also fans of the Doors?" You'd have to poll every Stones fan on earth. I know some Stones fans who loved the Doors, some who hated them. To me, the Doors were pretty good, but nowhere near as great as The Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc.....

All this bitching about the artwork....What ever happened to "Don't judge a book by it's cover?" I'll save my complaining till I see the official tracklist and it's the same singles and warhorses repackaged yet again. If they pepper it with some of the great album cuts that weren't hits, it could be a good collection.

Before we all bitch and moan too much about this compilation, let's see what the track listing is. So far there's nothing official about what's on it. Of course we know we'll get the warhorses for the umpteenth time, but if they would include some of the great album cuts that weren't "hits" it could be a good collection. If only they would include songs like Mo

There's something paradoxical about Dylan since Time Out of Mind. It's almost like he's a different person than the guy who gave us the "Dylan classics." But there's a compelling artistry there for me despite a total change in his approach to lyric writing. It's more straightforward now, not so much enigmatic symbolism and imagery. But it's music about re

Quotewhitem8 A great album! One of my favorite later day releases. I agree that many people close their ears after '81. BTB is a daring album in many ways, yet also finds that familiar groove of classic stones. Some great writing and melodies on the disc. Full of sleazy rock, some great ballads, and some good gospel rock as well. Everything about the album I like, and the tour was fantastic.

I was a pretty die-hard fan when TT came out but I must have missed the boots that had tunes that would later show up on TT. In retrospect it's kind of funny that me and my friends were saying things like, "Wow! What a fresh sound! They've really got the fire back!" when so many tracks were older than we knew. I will say I had suspicions as I'd listen to certain tracks
