Mick Taylor - Coming Down Again Keith - Casino Boogie (not technically great, but very soulful). Didn't Jagger play some bass on Bigger Bang?

A DVD with ALL the MSG songs in the right order would have been the way to go. Right now, you have to switch between GS and the Ya-Ya's DVD to see the MSG footage. Having all the live footage on one disc would not have hurt anyone and would have been much better than a 27-minute hodgepodge. One Man's Opinion.

The miscalculation of the Century, if you ask me...I really think he left because Keith was mean to him and it was an impossible situation personally...If the musical reasons were legit, he could have done solo albums, a la Bill, and gotten all that fusion crap out of his system. It's not like the Stones were working full time at that point. But the Jack Bruce Band? Awful, awful music. I wou

I also have to second 100 Years Ago. I love the very melancholy mood, Billy's keyboards, Taylor's solo, and Jagger's LYRICS (they actually conveyed feeling).

Yes, I know Taylor was bored in the Stones, and I'm a musician too, so I understand wanting to be more challenged. So he gets to play a couple of different scales (in fact, though, I found it odd he played some country scales over this stuff). My point was this music was indulgent drivel.

You think so, Neptune? I always heard a 12-string acoustic. I'll have to listen again.

Sure, Taylor's playing is great (when wasn't it?), but this music is horrid. 70s prog rock. He left the Stones so he could do this?

Scaffer, that's great! I always thought of Sad Day as sort of a complement to Singer Not The Song. That whole period where Mick & Keith were writing pure pop songs was a lot of fun.

One of my faves is The Singer Not The Song for its charm. Falsetto Keith at the end and out of tune 12-string. I love it.

I love the version of BS in the scene in GS where they put on the acetate in the hotel room. It has that twangy Taylor part that was later edited out. Is the full version of this available anywhere?

Rose is apparently Born Again now. She basically dismissed Exile in the book by Greenfield, which also said Taylor was miserable during the LA sessions and would leave notes around saying things like "I don't want to be in the Rolling Stones".

When exactly did Mick T. start having a "problem" with smack? Was it around the Exile sessions or later? He still seems fairly inncocent in the @#$%& Blues film. If he left the Stones due to smack, it hardly seems like he was in an ideal position to start a new band. I have also read that his wife Rose nagged him to leave.

I agree that Bill was a very distinctive and quirky bass player - starting with the sound of that homemade bass he used on most of the records. Darryl is more technically gifted perhaps, but I dearly miss Bill's quirkiness. In my mond that's the division between the "real" Stones and the "Vegas" Stones.

Mine: They get Bill and Taylor for a limited run (after all, they ARE still alive and playing) and play Sticky Fingers and Exile front to back. They would have Bobby Keys and one good piano player (NOT Chuck), but no other extra players. This owuld be at a venue like the Beacon in NYC, not a stadium Hey, one can dream.

Didn't Bill criticize Jones' bass playing several years ago saying he "plays too many notes"? I have been listening to the wonderfully re-mastered Ya-Ya's. Old Bill played quite a few notes himself sometimes.

Great tune! Thanks for posting it, Skipstone. It has classic Open G guitar but also the Goats Head Soup era clavinet and wah-wah. Wish they would have put this on the GHS reissue! Why don't the Stones release stuff like this? A real Rarities!

I have often read about this track from the Goats head Soup sessions. There was even a review of GHS in one of the trade papers at the time that mentioned this track and Tops as if it was on the album. Was there an advance pressing that contained these songs? Also, I have never heard Criss Cross. Anyone know where I can find it?

You can't hear ANY of Brian's guitar playing on the Stones' R&R Circus performance, except for No Expectations. Does anyone know if he was taken out of the mix after the fact, or not in the stage mix at all?

So - at most SEVEN tracks that ended up on the album were recorded in France? I think many of us had the impression for all those years that it was mostly done in France because of the photos published from Keith's house in Rolling Stone and other places and from Keith talking about it being recorded "in my basement", as was mentioned here. Amazing how they managed to get the same

I almost hated it when my image of all the Exile songs being recorded in Keith's basement was shattered. Very romantic idea, that. Who knows how many were actually done there and where were the others done? I know od's were done in LA, but did any songs originate in those sessions? Was Stop Breaking Down from the same sessions Sway came from?

Time for the Stones to do what Dylan has done, and selectively release watershed concerts from their career. The whole El Mocambo gig would be a great subject for one such release.

Begs the question: Why is so Keith always so down on MJ's electric guitar playing. I thought Stop Breaking Down was Keith for years. Jagger's tone and rhythm are downright nasty. Ditto for Sway, and I love his choppy stuff on Some Girls.
