Taylor, The Hard Stuff, and leaving the Stones

When exactly did Mick T. start having a "problem" with smack? Was it around the Exile sessions or later? He still seems fairly inncocent in the @#$%& Blues film. If he left the Stones due to smack, it hardly seems like he was in an ideal position to start a new band. I have also read that his wife Rose nagged him to leave.

Rose was a shrew. I think the smack started during the Exile sessions in France.

Rose is apparently Born Again now. She basically dismissed Exile in the book by Greenfield, which also said Taylor was miserable during the LA sessions and would leave notes around saying things like "I don't want to be in the Rolling Stones".
