Britain voted to leave the EU. Now that's what I call democracy)
England. Not Britain. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted for remaining.
And for the rest, there are various interpretations of what "real democracy" means. Indeed, many people think that referendums are a good tool for democracy but then again, also many people have excellent arguments why referendums are a stab in the back of democracy. I don't think this forum is meant for discussing one or the other, but I'm sure the internet is full of places where you could find arguments and counter-arguments, if you're really interested.

Wales decided to leave the EU too. So not just England.

As a Scot, I would like to say I was saddened by the result. I believe in Scotland within the UK, and the UK within the EU. I don't particularly like referendums. they are too binary and are a blunt conceit of democracy. take the case in Scotland, where the SNP are rampant (for many complicated reasons which include the decline of Labour as a party of the working class). Nicola Sturgeon never stops banging on about democracy. But she has never recognised the result of the recent Scottish Independence referendum (she has been agitating for another one ever since despite agreeing beforehand it was "for a generation" ). Now, with Scotland having voted to remain in the UK, she does not recognise the result of the EU referendum. She swans off to Brussells under the false pretence that she is exhausting all options for Scotland to remain within the EU. set aside the fact that no one asked her to do this. it is a deceit, as she will ultimately "conclude" that independence is the only option, and she can say " well at least I tried". She has NO legal right to call another referendum, and I hope Theresa May has the guts to deny her one.....l Rant over...

Why not? If London doesn't like the bureaucracy in Brussels, then the Scottish people can have the same opinion about London. Indeed, there is lots of inefficient bureaucracy in London, slow decision making and bad leadership.
Being "the most democratic nation", England should let Scotland have a new referendum (of course paid by Scotland themselves) and then let's see what happens. Scotland back to Scotland just as well as England back England.

I just heard that Google searches last week for "Brexit" exceeded the number of searches for "porn." Clearly a trending issue.
Very true words spoken.Nicola Sturgeon does not speak for Scotland or the Scottish people , she only speaks for her deluded cult the snp.Quote

I'm so relieved common sense prevailed in the end. The majority who voted could see what was happening to the EU and undoubtedly this will be the start of a domino effect. It's ludicrous some people want another referendum just because they did not like the outcome of the result. Only time will tell if Britain made the right decision to leave but I'm so pleased we are out!!

It will prove to be a great move by the UK. They needed to get away from the socialism, which has proven to hurt every country that tried it

Only united Europe can be competetive to USA, China or Russia economically and millitary. 19th century is gone long ago.

No need for that, the current Royal Family is already basically German, except Philip, who's Greek. Bloody immigrants!
