So the reality as we stand today:

Less than 33,000 copies sold in the USA.
Just over 11,000 copies sold in England.

Keith continues to repeat the sames lines about putting the Winos back together.
A broken record.
Soon comes the silence.
I'm sad.

No Tour.

Turn a blind eyed Heart.

All good reviews, good debut in many countries, # 2 on Amazon's charts, # 8 on Billboard's top albums sales, # 4 on Mediatraffic world charts.
Don't worry Kurt about a thing, 'cause every little thing gonna be alright!

And it's only going to get worse. Second week sales will be at least 50% less. Best case scenario is that the album sells 100K in the US by the holidays.

That would be fine if it sold like that for a few weeks, but it won't. Albums like this peak the first week and then fall drastically the second and third weeks. It's already fallen to #68 on Amazon's Album Chart and #17 on the Rock albums chart. Slim chance that it will even make the top 20 on Billboards Top 200 album chart next week.

Bought the album the day it came out (along with the David Gilmour CD) and been listening to it since. Wanted to wait to post my 2 cents on it. I agree with someone else comment. The album is a grower and sounds better the more one listens to it (of course you can say that about virtually every album). The glaring thing is there really are no "classic" tracks that will be around for years to come. The album flows well and is basically consistently good, but no real "highs". I think Robbed Blind is the closest to a great great track, but hardly a classic. Nothing on the album approaches Take It So Hard, Locked Away, Wicked As it Seems and Hate It When you Leave (which I would designate as great classic tracks). Considering how long it took Keith to do this album, and the lack of original Stones material in the same time frame....can't help but believe Keith needs Mick to mold his riffs and fragments into great tracks....

Top 20?
We can expect a 7-40 drop in the UK and 11-80 in the US.
No single, no airplay (Trouble is already out of the UK top 100 airplay and US AAA top 30), NO TOUR and no new single.
The album looks to be gone from any chart in two weeks from now.

Like TIC,which I still love, this album is timeless in many ways and will stand up as a long term satisfying listen. I think at least half could be described as classic, though I love them all. Just A Gift my current fav

I can't believe the particular moaning, here... Folks, a Keith's album (NOT a Stones album, I'm sure you know the difference from a commercial point of view...) debuts at #4 of the Global Chart, selling 93,000 copies (in these days, sometimes 120,000 units are enough even for #1). And you say, what exactly? That the albums "fall drastically the second and third week"? Of course. So what?

We have the dubut so far. If you really believe that 93,000 (and #4 globally) is not a strong number, allow me to mention some other debuts done by famous and newer artists/bands, in the last weeks or week.

Ryan Adams 62,000
Stereophonics 55,000
Slayer 124,000
Gary Clark 35,000
Prince 16,000 (only!)
Motorhead 66,000
Bon Jovi 105,000
Joss Stone 31,000
Joe Satriani 25,000
Third Eye Blind 23,000
Neil Young & Promise Of The Real (Neil is younger than Keith...) 50,000

Etc, etc.

Ladies and gentlemen, that' the level of sales, today. And Keith's album has sold 93,000 copies... Maybe some of you don't like the album. Fine, after all it's a matter of taste. But don't try to underestimate it's success. That would be completely childish! Especially if we consider that CH sells much, much better than the previous two Keith's solo albums. (And know something? I believe CH deserves 100% this success, it' Keith's best album IMO).

Sales don't mean diddly squat really when measuring quality -
some of my favorite albums and/or recordings are obscurities that never surfaced beyond several thousand listeners give or take.

As for "classics" I suppose it depends on how one defines that.
I'd say they're all classic on one level or another with some rising above others,
but these things are still evolving as the record has only been out for less than two weeks.

Classic according to Hairball: smiling smiley

1.Crosseyed Heart - CLASSIC!
2.Heartstopper - CLASSIC!!
3.Amnesia - CLASSIC!!
4.Robbed Blind -CLASSIC!!!
5.Trouble - CLASSIC!!!
6.Love Overdue -CLASSIC!
7.Nothing On Me - CLASSIC!!
8.Suspicious -CLASSIC!!!
9.Blues In the Morning -CLASSIC!!!
10.Something For Nothing - CLASSIC!
11. Illusion - CLASSIC!!!
12.Just a Gift - CLASSIC!
13.Goodnight Irene - CLASSIC!
14.Substantial Damage - CLASSIC!!
15.Lover’s Plea -CLASSIC!!!
16."Love Overdue" (bonus track) - CLASSIC!

All ratings are subject to change, but fairly certain they'll all remain classic's at one level or another.

Just a Gift for me was a grower. Now it's my fave, for this week anyways.
It's almost something Gram would be doing if he was with us.
I think it's one of Keefs greatest songs.
This man continues to surprise.
It's one of the most emotive songs I've heard him do.

I'd say Lover's Plea is this album's Hate It When You Leave. Nothing On Me has the same effect on me (greatness) as Wicked As It Seems.

There are more good ballads here than on TIC and MO.

Locked Away is beautiful, but hardly as musical and emotional as some of the ballads on CH, imo.

Slightly disagree. Locked Away is my favorite KR ballad. It's a little more up than the pain of Robbed Blind, or the sly Nothing on Me, which are both great, but Locked Away is the best. My favorite solo rocker by KR is How I Wish. All that said, I think Crosseyed Heart stacks up against Talk is Cheap very well.

Anyone here who doesn't have a high opinion of Keith's previous albums but is impressed with this new one?
I've resisted the temptation to buy it so far...

I like the previous albums of Keith very much, but this one is much better.

thumbs up

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my question.
.
It does seem that I'm the only one here who was underwhelmed by Keith's previous "solo" work. With the exception of Hate It When You Leave and Make No Mistake which are great IMO there's very little else that doesn't leave me lukewarm if not cold. The CD is only £7.99 at HMV where I live but, on principal, I don't want to buy something I won't enjoy listening to.

Sorry I didn't catch your question earlier - probably I am a bit over of this album and thread actually, but I try to say something now, if this is not too late.

I think there is a crucial difference between CROSSEYED HEART and Keith's earlier albums. If anyone, like me, finds MAIN OFFENDER and to and extent TALK IS CHEAP a bit boring, and more like a showcase of a 'riffmaster' showing what is famous for, by the expense of good song-writing, the new album is more done from a song-writers point of view. The songs sound more like coherent pieces; sort of more properly crafted and written. The whole 'feel' of the album is different. This really sounds like a Keith Richards solo album, not that of a Rolling Stones guitarist doing something quasi-Stones. I think that might charm some listeners more than of his earlier efforts, because now the result sounds more like a finished product, an aim of its own. Keith, to say it simply, has more identity, sounds more like an artist of his own.

However, that doesn't mean that Keith has now written better songs than earlier. No, quite the contrary. The song-writing so relaxed all the way through that it lacks the sharpness of the things like "Make No Mistake", "Take It So Hard" or "Hate It When You Leave". There is no singular songs in quality close to those, even though the quality over-all is a rather nice one. The impression is more like that of lazy Sunday afternoon feel of pals making music with no hurry, no ambitions, no deadline, no pressure - and no need to 'say' anything. Easy-listening mature music for mature folks. Enjoyable, but forgettable. Kind of 'muzak' for not too close listening; 'stylistically' alright - anything 'good': country blues, elecric blues, soul, country, reggae, ballads, rock and roll, etc. - to attract certain folks, but which probably cannot excite any one else further or deeper than the already-charmed Keith Richards devotees.
