The RB solo is indeed Nelson-ish, right down to the slightly lagging notes. Beautiful!

Agreed. Still one of my favorites.

I've been trying to get more into "just a gift" since so many like it but I haven't latched on.

I would still put this ahead of any stones album since tattoo you.

4. Robbed Blind ==> VERY GOOD
5. Trouble ==> GOOD
6. Love Overdue ==> OKAY
7. Nothing On Me ==> OKAY

Can you mail me the melody of Substantial Damage, matxil? My copy arrived without one.

Keith's vocals are as smooth as gravel that has been sifted of most debris,
and I mean that as a compliment of course.

I'm with you ... He's always had a great voice, some recent posts state it was otherwise in the past, I can't fathom what songs they are referring to.

Eggzactly! It is extremely goose-bump worthy.

When I hear the line "I've been hanging round in bars filled with shooting stars and they bore me"
I think he means the special guests on the 2013-2015 tours

JUST A GIFT had my lady and me in tears for like 2 days. Great song. Now I wonder if its aimed at Mick like an open invitation to get together. " come on, surprise me"
waiting for a call from you etc etc.

Here is my analysis:

Points 1-5,
1=bad,
5=fantastic

1. Crosseyed Heart - 5 great!
2. Heartstopper - 4 good drive, but no masterpice!
3. Amnesia - 4 good drive, but no masterpice!
4. Robbed Blind - 1 boring, terrible country-shit!
5. Trouble - 4 good drive, but no masterpice!
6. Love Overdue - 1 boring, don't need that!
7. Nothing On Me - 3 terrible back-up singers!
8. Suspicious - 2 boring!
9. Blues In The Morning - 5 great! Best album-song!
10. Something For Nothing - 3 terrible back-up singers!
11. Illusion - 2 boring!
12. Just A Gift - 2 boring!
13. Goodnight Irene - 1 boooring, terrible slow sleepy shit!
14. Substantial Damage - 3 interesting, but doesn't really turn me on!
15. Lover's Plea - 1 boring!

So, nothing really special here in the third solo one!

The first two solo albums weren't any better or weaker.
Too much middle-class-songs on all 3 albums.

Best of his Soloalbum-Songs ever:
- Take it so hard
- Big enough

But I love ALL Keith-Songs on Stones albums between 1968-1985!
After that the fire was gone!

A co-worker of mine's Mother recently passed. I had him play Just A Gift and he had a nice cry…..sometimes a cry like that can be relieving.

Suspicious's lyrics seems so dignified or maybe I mean on the British side. "cropping up in dreams", I love that phrase thumbs up

smiling smiley Admittedly "melody" might not be the best choice of words. "The combination of rhytmic chanting of words with the instrumental harmonies" then?
Oh well, I meant to say, I like it.

Keith should put the promo "Cross Eyed Heart" on iTunes. That and the bonus track fatten it out nicely.

Since day one and upon first listen, Suspicious touched a nerve and is still my favorite.
Musically,lyrically, and in every other way...it speaks volumes.

Will be interesting to revisit the beginning of this thread someday, and see how it all played out.
Easily album of the year in my mind.

Odd year, (1985) to choose as Keith's cut off...are you putting his Dirty Work cuts in the year '85 or are you saying that DW was where he "lost the fire"?

A few of the tracks on this album should of have been extended at the end like with Locked Away on TIC

I get so confused. LOL. To me this album passed all expectations and then some. How could a die hard stones fan not love this album? I've been waiting for this baby since 1981. I actually took a 3 day hiatus from it and put it back on tonight on my drive home from work. It's great. There are some songs that are better than others, but I would say there isnt one real crap song on it. All of great in their own way. Maybe some folks have gone so long without hearing really new good worthy stuff that this album has thrown them for a loop. Just joking. To each their own but I love this album.

I know people here are excited about Keith's album (and I was excited about it as well). Bought it the day it came out and playing it steady ever since (along with Gilmour's album). But really......rating every song 5 stars....please. I mean if everything is "classic", then nothing is classic. 5 stars to me is rarely if ever given out. Very few things are, and should be, labeled classic otherwise the rating means little. there is virtually NOTHING on this album that is truly classic - closest is Robbed Blind. Its a very good album and there is nothing wrong with that. Keith can be proud, but classic. Let's put things in perspective. Sticky Fingers, Dark Side of The moon, London Calling, Ziggy Stardust - those are classic. Not this album....by a long shot. And by the way, Gilmours album is very good as well...and not a classic either.

Ditto.

I'm actually surprised how this album hooked me in, as I wasn't really expecting something of this high calibur.
Perhaps the overall lack in quality of Stones related releases for so long tainted my hopes.
I also took a three day break from it about a week ago in an to attempt to absorb the new David Gilmour album.
Sorry to say Gilmour's album didn't pass the test - not by a long shot, and I love Pink Floyd c. '67 - '79.
After a three day hiatus without Crosseyed Heart, it was like reuniting with a long lost friend when I cranked it back up.
I heard new things that I hadn't the first week or so, and the quality continued to grow and grow on me.
It has proven worthy of not leaving my car cd player ever since as I'm still discovering nuances here and there.
I'll occasionally turn on the radio, but usually a crap sing comes on, and I'll know it's a guaranteed safe bet when I hit the cd button.
I have a copy at my art studio, as well as a backup at home. Can't imagine ever burning out on it...it's definitely one for the ages.
Eventually it will be played less, but in the meantime it's making a HUGE impression on me that will last for the rest of my life.

It was tongue in cheek... I wasn't really rating every song (my keyboard got stuck)..smiling smileyI cut and pasted an earlier post that had rated some songs a 1 and changed a few to give it a bit of balance...>grinning smiley<

Fully agree with the thoughts on 'Just a Gift', 'Illusion', 'Robbed Blind' and especially 'Something for Nothing'. The initial three are quite beautiful, the latter was absolutely a grower - initially I thought it was decent but not quite up to 'Heartstopper', 'Substantial Damage', 'Trouble'. But my gosh, it's really grown, and I love it now. The gospel choir, the cool, spare riffs, the solo, and the build up to the ending; great song.

The album as a whole is a joy, not a filler among the bunch, and it's surprising commercial success has been unexpected yet feels right - a quality album, perhaps word of mouth, or Keith's reputation and publicity; but it feels right!
