Mick saying "One Last Shot" is a song that Keith wrote mostly. I wrote some extra lyrics for it. It's really good" is hilarious, maybe because it reminds him of Street Fighting Man from Live Licks?
It´s not the opening chords that are important in OMS, LOL!
It´s obvious that the AC/DC-break, used for the chorus is what Keith came up with. The I-IV-riffing is just a vehicle for the verses, like on hundreds of other Stones-tunes.
It´s really too simple, and not much of a song, but it grows on me - dunno why
It's funny how clean Keith's guitar sounds on this tune.
I finally got the Mixed Emotions reference. It's hilairious how this song has so many other songs in it. Although no one has complained about Sad Sad Sad being Brown Sugar in reverse...
Yes, but in the case of Sad Sad Sad there was still some creativity left...being Brown Sugar in reverse...and borrowing from their best tunes is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it's just borrowing and as long as a tune still stands on it's own feet, but with One More Shot, the individual song is simply not there, it's almost entirely constructed.

I just applied the microananysis to Brown Sugar and I am distrubed to say the least! It seems that on the intro you before Mick sing the chord progression Keith is playing sounds a lot liek Jumping Jack Flash (where Mcik sings and it's all right now...." The lick on the brown sugar chorus seems similar to La Bamba and Twist and Shout. The whole song structure seems similar to many Chuck Berry Songs that all negate each other's quality due to similar structure. There you have a it. The shocking truth. A classic from the Stones catalogue "Brown Sugar" nothing more than a patch work of Jumpin Jack Flash, Chuck Berry, La Bamba and Twist and Shout. My conclusion? I no longer like the Stones! I's all classical and Free form Jazz from here!
And the larger questions? What of those. Do we continue to to conclude that rock and roll can continue with some tolerance of new songs echoing old or do we opt out for free form jazz?

If you are never happy, you are not a fan, but each song is not a gem, some are incredible, fantastic and others are not. If you can't make a difference bewteen a good song and a bad, that's your probleme. That's all. There are people who'll eat their crap and will compare to a 3 stars restaurant.Quote

stones fans will never be happy whatever the stones do,fans want live in the sixties and seventies they do move on afterall ITS ONLY ROCK-ROLL

My two cents upon first listen.
It has a JJF intro, and a YGMR weave throughout. The former could save it, the latter helps to destroy it. The toy piano piece and couldn't-be-bothered lyrics finish it off. Thankfully it only last 3 minutes.
Send it back to the factory, this is crap.

Why are you disappointed? You've been going off the rails for this comeback, and now you're lukewarm, how come?

sorry, i don't have a short answer to your short question
1) I think the studio version of One More Shot is quite good, and am surprised
by the decidedly mixed reaction it is getting from Stones fans
2) I can't hear anything much good in that rehearsal version. It sounds kinda
lame to me. But the recording is ultra low quality, so maybe its my ears.
3) This will sound worse than I mean it to: Mostly I want what Mick wants,
and almost always find a way to subordinate my vision to his. I got VERY
high on SuperHeavy, but when Mick pulled the plug on them, so did I. Because
if Mick was gonna give his all to some big glorious celebration of the Stones,
I was definitely gonna be on board for it.
4) But since then, as i've stated in a number of posts, i don't think mick is
at all sincere in this "celebration" of the Stones. That doesn't mean I don't
think Mick isn't extremely proud of all the Stones accomplishments, and all
Keith's accomplishments, in the past, but just that right here right
now, Mick is doing the minimum he can get away with and still have it seem
like the Stones are dying a natural death.
5) so since I think Mick's heart is just not into the Stones anymore, neither
is mine. When I saw Mick in those vids with SuperHeavy, he was like a kid,
energized and giddy to be working with those musicians. When I saw him with
the Foos, he was practically levitating. And then when I see him with the
Stones these days, it like he's got an 80 pound backpack on, doing that
ridiculous marching-in-place "dance", dismisssing the audience with his hands,
jeez its awful to watch...
6) I still think Mick and Keith and the Stones are the greatest that ever
lived. But just like Jake LaMotta, and like Keith at the end of Shine A Light,
there comes a time when it just doesn't make any sense anymore to get into
the ring. If Keith was a traditional highly skilled musician, he could do it
to the day he died. but keith is more like a pure street fighter, who did
it on adrenaline and guts and the energy of the crowd, and all of that is
gone forever now. No shame in it at all. He's the best there ever was.
But its over.

Eileen, you shouldn't take it so hard. I've got mixed emotions from being a street fighting man that shook me all night long.

That's quite weak Skippy, if I'm being honest. I note you've even gone in there and edited it once. Might not be able to fix unfortunately.
Get thee back to the drawring board.

This song? One More Shot? You must be listening to something else.

I put in Irene at first!
It's weak, yes, but at least I got the songs right, opposed to saying JJF and You Got Me Rocking and whatever else people are phantomly hearing.

I guess you're a victim of your past successes, and sorry to hold you to a higher standard.
Now that you're past your creative peak, it's only 40 years or so of downward spiral. Fasten your seatbelt!

Are you suggesting - holy Robin, Batman! You are! I do not want to have to get some Watchman/Stonesnow/Trollin50/DoomNGloomer to write nothing but BS about me. Take that back, right now, and not later.

Hey, who doesn't like cheerleaders? Maybe they look good in a short skirt and tight sweater?
