By my reckoning, that takes the number of different songs performed by the E Street Band in the 85 tour shows this year to around 200. Around a third of them unreleased cover versions. Only two songs ('Born to Run' and 'American Land') were played at every show.

Absolutely incredible to be able to do that whilst at the same time perform to a consistently high level night after night. An amazing finale for any band, let alone one playing high octane rock n roll for three and a half hours and where most of them are in their 60's.

They'll be back.

Best F'ing tour(s) ever. Unfortunately, the Stones can't hold a candle to a Tour of this caliber.

HEY MISTER PRESIDENT, I KNOW YOU GOT YOUR PLANS...
And this weekend, those include welcoming Bruce Springsteen and the other Kennnedy Center Honorees at the White House on Sunday, and joining them for the annual Honors Gala that follows. Springsteen will receive his Kennedy Center Honors medallion on Saturday night, at a State Department dinner hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Along with Springsteen, also being honored area Robert DeNiro, Mel Brooks, Grace Bumbry, and Dave Brubeck. Honorees traditionally do not perform themselves, but rather are seated with the First Family to watch the night's salutes. Artists rumored to be paying tribute to the Boss on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage are Eddie Vedder and Ben Harper; confirmed is Melissa Etheridge, who tells Spinner.com that she'll be playing with Kenny Aronoff on drums as well as a horn section. On December 29 at 9 p.m., CBS will air a two-hour broadcast of the event.

To mark the occasion, Springsteen spoke with the Washington Post's Joe Heim for a feature that will run in the Sunday edition. Springsteen tells Heim that he considers this weekend's honor "a recognition that you've worked to be a part of the cultural life of your country which was something that was an ambition of mine from a very young age." Bruce also addresses the question of whether the recent tour will be his last with the E Street Band: "Are you kidding me? There's still fannies in the seats out there! People want to see this [bleep].... We're musicians to the bone. It ain't easy to get us to go home.... And there's many miles to go before we sleep."

Heim also spoke about the Boss with U2's Bono, who says, "...through all of his criticism of the country where he was born and raised, you get the sense that he was the greatest ambassador for the idea that is America."

Read Heim's full story at WashingtonPost.com. Plus outtakes, too! Check out "Overtime with Bruce Springsteen" for more of the interview.

Congratulations, Bruce!

The fact is, even in their prime The Stones weren't as professional and dedicated as The E Street Band. These guys are about rock and roll as much as the stones were about debauchery back in their heyday.I think Bruce is the only artist I'd rather see in concert

Real Stones fans also tend to listen to other bands as well.Real fans are not obsessed over whether their fav band really is the greatest rock band in the world, they just enjoy listening to the music.Real Stones fans are open-minded enough to acknowledge that some people might consider some artists to be superior to The Stones.Am I less of a fan if I just happen to like some other artist slightly better than The Stones? At times The Stones are my most favourite band in the world, at other times it can be The Beatles or Bruce, or even Grateful Dead.Does it matter really?

Their would'nt be 33 pages if real Rolling Stones fans didn't give a crap. In fact their have been more posts on this thread than you have made in 5 years. So what would you know about real Rolling Stones fans.

Cover songs from fan requests would be a favorable separate DVD inclusion of live WOAD tour collection.

BRUCE GETS HIS "RAINBOW RIBBON" (from Backstreets.com)
Springsteen headlined the Honors Gala last night at the Kennedy Center, as the fifth and final honoree at the 32nd annual event. Jon Stewart began the salute to Bruce, acknowleding that Springsteen hated to have the attention squarely directed at himself, and it was surely killing him "to be up in the box seats with the rainbow ribbon with a dreamcatcher at the end of it." On this night, sitting beside President and Michelle Obama, Bruce would just have to grin and bear it. Following tributes from Stewart and Born on the Fourth of July author Ron Kovic, the music:

"Tenth Avenue Freeze-out" - Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band (including Shane Fontayne, Cindy Mizelle, and Curtis King)
"Born in the U.S.A." - John Mellencamp
"My Father's House" - Ben Harper
"Glory Days" - Jennifer Nettles
"I'm on Fire" - Ben Harper/Jennifer Nettles
"Born to Run" - Melissa Etheridge
"My City of Ruins" - Eddie Vedder
"The Rising" - Sting

You forgot to list the 200 some odd lectures about how to be a better, "enlightened and progressive" citizen of the world. An impressive selection of data nonetheless.

I liked Bruce Springsteen up to Nebraska and then stopped listening to him, the records since then are in my opinion bilge, the only exception i can think of was the song Philadelphia. The last time i saw him live was on the Born In The USA tour, the concert was unbearable bombastic drivel and i swore i would never go again.

He plays so many old covers because he wants to be seen in that canon of classic rock n roll, but in my opinion he doesnt belong there, he is standard rock/pop to me like Bryan Adams,Bon Jovi etc

Was it not Keith who once said about him, "nice guy but faking it"

Dont hate me,just an opinion smiling smiley

Maybe you should give a try to some of his more recent material. He did kinda lost it with Born in The USA but he recovered with a series of great album starting with The Ghost of Tom Joad.If you liked his seventies stuff, you might easily get into Magic. It's far superior to Born in The USA.Quite honestly I can't understand how you can put him in the same league with Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi.Bruce recorded such albums as Nebraska,Born to Run,The wild, the innocent and the e street shuffle. Those two guys are far below Bruce in terms of quality.Anyway I guess that Bruce is one of those artists that you either adore or loathe. There's not much middle ground.

I'd love to see a boxset of just the unreleased/recorded cover songs!! That'd be awesome!!

From this tour or generally?

Well I'd meant this tour, but if there's others the Boss has, then by all means include em all. It'd be his own live anthology set!!

And if you'd actually heard any of the shows, you'd probably be aware that there's no 'lecturing' whatsoever. Unless you have a problem with someone occasionally asking fellow human beings to donate to a food bank.

I have no problem with the food bank pitch at the beginning of the encore. I used to go to many a Bruce show with an extra $40 in my pocket for them (instead of an ugly t-shirt). If he's quit lecturing the audience (during the run-up to "Mary's Place" if memory serves) then good for him. Too bad it was too little too late as he had to resort to the 'playing a full album' gimmick to sell tickets and still performed to 65-70% houses on the recently ended leg of his ESB tour.

No political lectures on the last tour and in fact, contrary to the rantings of some who would love to think otherwise, they were pretty few and far between (and generally done in a self deprecating way) on the one before it.

Not quite true with the empty-seats stats, but a good try. One or two stinkers (such as Des Moines - hardly vintage Bruce territory) but generally pretty good. On the first leg of the tour only one show (Greensboro at 89%) had less than 94% tickets sold, and almost every show sold out.

Think he did more than OK considering he's toured pretty much non stop for two years, with multiple visits to the same markets. And more importantly, the audiences went home happy. Too bad it wasnt the flop some people prayed for.

Better luck next tour!

#1....Rolling Stones.......$1,737,000,000
#2....U2........................1,298,643,000.....tour break (resumes June 2010)
#3....Springsteen..........1,146,718,925
#4....Celine Dion...........1,017,000,000
#5....Madonna.................990,427,000

Bruce became the second act to top the $1 billion mark, although U2 overtook him by the end of the year. No one will ever top the Stones figure, I would imagine! I guess the Stones may top $2 billion on their next tour if its as long as the last one, considering the fact that Springsteen grossed $190 million on his last world tour with a lower ticket price.

If there were no lectures on the last tour it's because the damage had already been done. The "Living In A Dream" fiasco merely compounded it. Five "sellouts' out of how many shows (despite the full album gimmick)? Too many for me to bother counting.

How much of that $1 billion is he going to give to the down and out? How much for additional thoroughbred horses and vintage Corvettes?

Two questions:

1) When did the Stones last sell out a stadium?
2) Why should Bruce just dole money to the "down and out" when there are obviously better ways of acheiving social justice?

This last tour total was a 90% sell out. Not bad for someone who has been on the road for 9 out of the last 11 years. It has nothing to do with lectures. It is because he has played so much over the years.

And as far as the down and out,he has probably given more than just about anyone. Most of which we probably don't even know about.(so you really should get your facts straight!)
