Quotetomk With the usual suspects involved (Chuck and Don Was), do you really think it's gonna be that good? They had a chance to do something really interesting (with Wyman and Taylor, a one-off, probably) but chose not to. I really hope it's not another open-G retread, but it probably will be. Well, I had in mind a song on the level of the best tracks of BRIDGES TO BABYLON, but fr

If it is with reference to my post: Not like the Beach Boys, really. In my understanding a penultimate pop group. And I did not say "frail", but (only) "more frail ...... than they were". Either, if they will perform live, as a band with some essentials intact of what entitled the Stones to presume to the epithet the best rock'n'roll band in the world. Or, a

There are more than only sweet love songs to the Beatles, especially John Lennon, of the comparatively early period. A more sinister side of oldfashioned male attitudes is to be found in the lyrics below the sweet surface made by the catchy melody. "Run for your life" Well I'd rather see you dead, little girl Than to be with another man You better keep your head, littl

QuoteCome On ...and where would Charlie be without having joined the Stones back in the 60´s? On a sadder note, not bringing any old quotations, without there being a band by the name of Rolling Stones, what might have become of Brian Jones? On the other hand, as it is, musical and thereby personal honour that few blues (white blues, anyhow) and rock musicians attain.

Highly interesting, I think! It seems that I was not the only one, far from it, in fact, to take your supposed views on face value so to speak. My impression is that even esteemed posters did (or, maybe, they let you perform your part of a role play). At the end of it all, I end up perhaps being one that likes them even more than you say that you do. I have experienced a time when th

QuoteDoxa QuoteCocaine Eyes Chuck: Mick had called me and said, listen, how about putting together a list of 20 or 30 songs that would be good for us to do. To use a hip term from the business nowadays, it is funny how much Jagger (and the Stones) have externalized some very basic doings of their activity. Makes me wonder why it is so hard for Mick to come up a list of 20 or 30 songs hims

Taken from a post that I abstained from sending: A piece of "counter fact"-thinking. One point of view though, relating to the song «Waiting on a Friend», probably highly controversial: If I have got the time of the origine right, I would have liked it to have taken the place of «Winter» within GOAT'S HEAD SOUP, which I think would have made «Coming Down Again» and «Waiting

I leave it to them who create the music, to decide which songs are to be included in Stones releases, and which are not. What they hold as good enough and suited, is far better for me than other people's whims and prejudies. In this case I (and others with me) was privileged with an album of 16 songs. Maybe the last complete album of new Stones songs we are ever to have had. If there will

I cannot believe that Doxa's postulating and arguing thread has been moved. Because it was much more than an immediate reaction to a compilation, namely involving a major understanding of much of the Stones' career. I wrote an admittedly much simplified answer to explain my disagreement on a general level, in all due respect, to Doxa's position. As one that does not write that o

After all this band has achieved, and after all the passion and all the joy they have generated, I detest to make harsh words. Quite the contrary, I am delighted that there will be two new songs, which I did not reckon with, but deeply hoped for. I am open for the presented cover and title of a new compilation, and it is OK with me that there will be one. But I have to admit, I do not wish

I have not had time to read this thread, so I apologize if I am only repeating the thought of another post: I am more than pleased if I am able to obtain the two new songs separately in what earlier would have constituted a maxi single. (In fact, I am still primarily listening to music through vinyl recordings.) That would mean at least some new material, even if it is gonna be two songs only

QuoteCome On The truth is that Stones copied Lennon (Beatles) 1965-1967 in everything they did, everything.... I don't think that is correct. It was rather common ground for more bands for a certain period of time, to some extent. A short and magic period in the history of rock. And has for instance "THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES' REQUEST" that much likeness with "SERGEANT PE

The Stones were the better band by the time the Beatles officially imploded....and we will never know what would have happened had the Beatles stayed together till 1974 or 75. If you look at Lennon and McCartney's 70s output, the music is nowhere in the vicinity of wha

I prefer "ballad" to be understood as something more spesific, even if I am not able myself to give an adequate definition. "Slow song" is even more evasive as term. For all that, I would like to nominate one song that once was that important to me, and I still love it (I can't see it that it has been mentionned yet), "She Smiled Sweetly".
