QuoteDoxa QuoteCocaine Eyes Chuck: Mick had called me and said, listen, how about putting together a list of 20 or 30 songs that would be good for us to do. To use a hip term from the business nowadays, it is funny how much Jagger (and the Stones) have externalized some very basic doings of their activity. Makes me wonder why it is so hard for Mick to come up a list of 20 or 30 songs hims

Taken from a post that I abstained from sending: A piece of "counter fact"-thinking. One point of view though, relating to the song «Waiting on a Friend», probably highly controversial: If I have got the time of the origine right, I would have liked it to have taken the place of «Winter» within GOAT'S HEAD SOUP, which I think would have made «Coming Down Again» and «Waiting

I am amazed to read the vocal to be judged a weak link. Apart from that, a personal post rather than strictly related to the song's "anatomy" if that is allowed in this thread, too. As an indication of my preference for this song, I render my answer to a thread a long time ago, starting in April 2005 and I myself posting in August QuoteFansince1964 Let's hear what you

I leave it to them who create the music, to decide which songs are to be included in Stones releases, and which are not. What they hold as good enough and suited, is far better for me than other people's whims and prejudies. In this case I (and others with me) was privileged with an album of 16 songs. Maybe the last complete album of new Stones songs we are ever to have had. If there will

I cannot believe that Doxa's postulating and arguing thread has been moved. Because it was much more than an immediate reaction to a compilation, namely involving a major understanding of much of the Stones' career. I wrote an admittedly much simplified answer to explain my disagreement on a general level, in all due respect, to Doxa's position. As one that does not write that o

After all this band has achieved, and after all the passion and all the joy they have generated, I detest to make harsh words. Quite the contrary, I am delighted that there will be two new songs, which I did not reckon with, but deeply hoped for. I am open for the presented cover and title of a new compilation, and it is OK with me that there will be one. But I have to admit, I do not wish

I have not had time to read this thread, so I apologize if I am only repeating the thought of another post: I am more than pleased if I am able to obtain the two new songs separately in what earlier would have constituted a maxi single. (In fact, I am still primarily listening to music through vinyl recordings.) That would mean at least some new material, even if it is gonna be two songs only

QuoteCome On The truth is that Stones copied Lennon (Beatles) 1965-1967 in everything they did, everything.... I don't think that is correct. It was rather common ground for more bands for a certain period of time, to some extent. A short and magic period in the history of rock. And has for instance "THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES' REQUEST" that much likeness with "SERGEANT PE

QuoteCome On QuoteHis Majesty Quotebuffalo7478 If we are comparing their output from the 60s, the Beatles win, hands down. The Stones were the better band by the time the Beatles officially imploded....and we will never know what would have happened had the Beatles stayed together till 1974 or 75. If you look at Lennon and McCartney's 70s output, the music is nowhere in the vicinity of wha

I prefer "ballad" to be understood as something more spesific, even if I am not able myself to give an adequate definition. "Slow song" is even more evasive as term. For all that, I would like to nominate one song that once was that important to me, and I still love it (I can't see it that it has been mentionned yet), "She Smiled Sweetly".

I prefer to leave it to the band to decide. I do not like to control the set list, I'd rather be surprised. But: You're the boss! Okay! You're the boss! Okay! Okay! Okay! I do what you say! Okay! Intro: Satisfaction. Followed by: If You Need Me Everybody Needs Somebody to Love. (That is, start on some kind of top, and go on up from there! Then with this ta

What about the "toasting"- inspired singing during the last part of "Hot Stuff". Anyway, that was how it once was described. In case, might it not qualify this song to be ranked as reggae-related, I wonder?

QuoteWeLoveToPlayTheBlues Journey had Separate Ways. Some country someone did some song with the word seperate in it. Maybe. Obviously the name of a new LP if they do one is already named - Working Separately. Perhaps that what Bridges To Babylon, the name, was actually suggesting. Having read threads like this, what I wonder is: Who are we to give moral judgements of other people's lives? Be they "ordinary people" or rock stars. And do we, after all, really have a common moral basis? On all issues? Then for each issue, to the extent that we should all the same have a common moral basis (in all elements?) as adviseable, is it to be strictly lived up to? Ev

QuoteEdward Twining An example of Jagger singing nasal His singing nasal , I agree there he does, is in my reception of it part of something more in singing technique, that I am not able to describe. Expressing therebye perhaps a slight psychic pain or embarassment (or something in that vein), I think personally, to very good effect for the song and the feeling it transmits.

To me the most interesting question in this thread is: What is it then about the Rolling Stones that you do like, Brian Jones 1969? And as a consequence, which albums and which songs? Possibly in addition, which period or periods of the band's existence?
