Added to the Index on page 1 of this thread:

1978.06.14 Capitol Theatre, Passiac, NJ [VGP-253] [DSP Remix]

The sound on the source was compressed and over saturated...almost like a pre-emphasis FM sound.

Let me know if there's a better source and I can redo it.

Oh, LaughingSam... LaughingSam...

I don't know whether laugh or cry but your "new" remix sounds EXACTLY
the same as Garden_State_78__vinyl_rip__Side_4.7z which I have from
April 4, 2010. Even time of songs is EXACTLY the same.

I used the FLAC download of "Garden Sate 78" from stonesmuziekfan's post here:
iorr.org

Maybe that explains the track legnths?

As far as the sound, I damn sure remixed it with Ozone and Alloy. If it sounds the same as something else, I guess that's not good. Why don't you point me toward the vinyl rip you're talking about, so I can hear for myself?

LaughingSam is very good at remastering, but my suggestion to him is to do *everything the opposite*. He'd might get employed by VGP as their new *EQ-man*
'Cos that's obviously the way VGP like things to sound!

Dear LaughinSam,

My intention was not only criticism but encouragement for better
"employment" of your great talent and abilities.
Thanks God rapidshare links are still working here:

This is exactly the same version which I have (4 parts) and
which are identical with your remaster.

Sorry if I hurt your pride.
Not intentional.

No worries Gregg. You didn't hurt my pride or insult me or anything. I was just immediately curious about this other version you mentioned. I downloaded it and compared:

1. This vinyl rip SOUNDS BETTER than my version. It's more balanced and less distorted.

2. The track lengths are not the same, not even close in some cases.

I took the VGP-253 source through a process using the DSPs that I always use. If you think it turned out "exactly" like this vinyl rip, then you have kinder ears than I. I think VGP_253 was more or less shite sound to begin with and I wouldn't have altered it if I'd had in my possession this other rip.

Thanks for the link Paul. A very good version indeed! I wonder why the guy didn't touch the dropouts, but he did a heck of a job de-clicking without disrupting the sound.

It's great Laughingsam that finally there is artwork for your essential rarities. Thanks.
I'm not sure if it is a right place to post here my kind request but
I'm that you're the only person who is able to do it.
Question: do you like Led Zeppelin or exactly Page & Plant?
If so, there is an excellent concert which badly needs your
remastering to reach perfection.
Namely, it's Plant & Page - 1995-10-07 - Mountain View, FLAC.
You can find it here: [theultimatebootlegexperience2.blogspot.com]
They probably never played like this, oh... let's say starting from
"Thank You" when they warmed up a little bit.
Best,Greg

Greg: An unusual request...especially on a Rolling Stones forum. I was curious about the show though. There's still a good deal of high-end sibilance. I tried a few things to reduce it, but ultimately left it. I found that reducing the plosives & sibilants took the edge off the recording.

part 1
part 2

Hope you enjoy it better than the original.

Hi Master Joe,
Well... your remaster of Enmore is better than the one of Rubicatgirl.
And is better than VGP342 but in this case it's only slightly better.
There is no such breathtaking difference as experienced with other of your remasters. Still voice is somewhere in the back and there is no such punch
which you achieved on Cow Palace to for example or even on Page & Plant you
kindly did on my request. So... I will be waiting patiently for a redo.

You probably know that blog: [rollingstonesyesterdayspapers.blogspot.com]
- it's a bottomless well for Rolling Stones both in flac and mp3.

If you find energy & time to spare maybe you could use your master hand at
least for Whole Lotta Love from Salt Lake City [www.filesonic.com] at which
I've already tried to draw your attention.

Very Merry Christmas
Best,
Greg

Rubycatgirl -- It's great to hear you like it. I'm always a little worried about remixing other people's efforts because it's like usurping their work, but I saw in the thread to your original post that you wouldn't mind me having a go at it.

Gregg -- Although I don't have the VGP version to compare, I do agree in part about the mix lacking the same punch as some of the other mixes. I still consider it a noticeable improvement from the source and won't be redoing it anytime soon. Thanks for your feedback and for originally pointing me towards this show.

[...]

On the contrary, I feel kinda flattered that you could use my "remaster"! I really can not remember what I did to the original way back then; probably just some simple eq'ing, nothing fancy anyway.

Not sure if you are looking for more suggestions/requests but a few weeks ago Silkcut1978 posted a vinyl rip of "Southern Quotations", Greensboro '78. I never paid much attention to that show but, well, eversince the "Live in Texas" release I am listning to the 78 tour with "new" ears.
To cut the long story short, I think the Greensboro '78 is very enjoyable. It has a nice and cozy atmosphere but the volume levels are uneven and I think it would benefit from a little eq'ing as well. Nothing that I couldn't handle myself but perhaps you see/hear opportunities for your Ozone and Alloy gear. Please let me know when you have the time - thanks!

Happy holidays!

Just posted to the index:

1999-06-08 Shepherds Bush Empire, London, UK [DSP Mix]
sourced from DL 117/118

01 intro (0:38)
02 Shattered (4:29)
03 It's Only Rock'n Roll (But I Like It)(5:38)
04 Respectable (3:38)
05 All Down The Line (5:49)
06 Some Girls (5:41)
07 Melody (6:23)
08 I Got The Blues (4:18)
09 Brand New Car (5:30)
10 Moon Is Up (5:05)
11 Saint of Me (6:39)
12 Honky Tonk Women (4:31)
13 Band intro (4:28)
14 You Got The Silver (4:10)
15 Before They Make Me Run (3:55)
16 Route 66 (3:07)
17 You Got Me Rocking (3:28)
18 Tumbling Dice (4:38)
19 Brown Sugar (8:12)
20 Jumping Jack Flash (6:56)

All tracks remixed with iZotope Ozone 5.
Tracks 7,8 and 14 were mixed in Ozone 5, then finalized in iZotope Alloy.

This remix was done by request for a friend and fairly quickly with less attention to detail as some of the others I've posted.
Maybe this isn't much better (or different) than the Dandelion version, but what the heck I'll share it anyway.

For those who might be wondering...The Dandelion ver is better than the MORPH ver, but I'm not sure about VGP-225 since I don't have that one.

The following shows were added to the index on page 1 of this thread:

1998.09.08 The Globe, Stockholm, Sweden [DSP Remix]
source: Crystal Cat [CC 467-78]

** The sound very noticeably improves after "Satisfaction" **

CD 1:

1. intro [00:01:38]
2. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction [00:04:57]
3. Let's Spend the Night Together [00:04:31]
4. Flip The Switch [00:04:35]
5. Gimme Shelter [00:07:14]
6. Anybody Seen My Baby? [00:05:08]
7. Paint It Black [00:06:05]
8. Saint of Me [00:06:40]
9. Out of Control [00:08:34]
10. Miss You [00:14:33]
11. You Don't Have To Mean It [00:04:53]
12. Wanna Hold You [00:06:04]

CD 2:

1. intro [00:00:19]
2. Little Queenie [00:04:46]
3. You Got Me Rocking [00:03:47]
4. Like A Rolling Stone [00:05:59]
5. Sympathy For The Devil [00:08:24]
6. Tumbling Dice [00:05:17]
7. Honky Tonk Women [00:04:46]
8. Start Me Up [00:04:50]
9. Jumping Jack Flash [00:07:24]
10. You Can't Always Get What You Want [00:05:35]
11. Brown Sugar [00:08:56]
12. It's Only Rock'n Roll (But I Like It) [00:05:03]
13. Star Star [00:05:50]
14. Thief In The Night [00:06:55]

This was an excellent audience to start. The harmonics have been hyped a bit; a mid/side EQ scheme was employed to fattened the middle and added and edge to the sides. The stereo width was also incraesed with multi-band imaging and this was mixed much louder than the original recording through the loudness maximizer in Ozone 5 advance.

The net result is that the drums sound more crisp, the piano is more audible and the guitars are more cutting than the Crystal Cat version. It sounds nice when played through a stereo but might be a bit of a fatiguing listen with headphones (because of the loudness and harmonic excitation).

********************************************************************************

2003.08.16 Music Center, Utrecht, NL [DSP Mix]
sourced from Morph 28

This is a DSP remix of 'Hand Of Fate" [Morph 28]. The source was dull and distant sounding. Sister Morphine productions are some of the most inconsistent releases I've ever come across. They range from brilliantly & carefully mixed (Timeless Europe) to the likes of this source. One thing all Morph productions have in common is they're mixed very loud, which makes it difficult to add anything to the mix. Because this mix had a dull sound, the Morph engineer who originally mixed it should've left some room for the individual listener to add EQ settings -- since most EQ presets add more than subtract from the overall dB.

This remix is admittedly rendered loud (just a 0.1 margin or 98.86% of full dynamic range), but it has more clarity than the source. And those of you that find the sound is too sharp, just apply a gentle cut between 6-10KHz on your EQ settings.

CDR 1:

1. intro [00:00:41]
2. Jumping Jack Flash [00:04:49]
3. Live With Me [00:04:27]
4. Hand Of Fate [00:04:24]
5. No Expectations [00:05:15]
6. Worried About You [00:07:09]
7. Saint of Me [00:06:43]
8. It's Only Rock'n Roll (But I Like It) [00:05:06]
9. Dance (Pt. 1) [00:06:25]
10. Everybody Needs Somebody To Love [00:05:16]
11. That's How Strong My Love Is [00:05:57]
12. Going to a Go-Go [00:04:33]

CDR 2:

1. Band intro [00:04:49]
2. Thief In The Night [00:07:23]
3. Happy [00:04:23]
4. I Can't turn you loose [00:05:43]
5. Can't You Hear Me Knocking? [00:12:57]
6. Start Me Up [00:04:27]
7. Tumbling Dice [00:05:32]
8. Brown Sugar [00:07:16]
9. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction [00:05:52]

- All remixing was done using iZotope Ozone 5 advanced with final edits done in Goldwave v5.65.

Laughingsam, many many thanks for Shepherd's Bush and Utrecht!!! So nice to listen to it smiling bouncing smiley

Do you think you could do a DSP-Remaster of one of these recordings:

I like them very much but of course the sound isn't as nice as the one of your remastered sources. Hampden Park is a radio broadcast, Nice an audience recording. I don't know which one can be remastered more easily - anyway I would be extremely glad if you could just have a look at one of them. Thanks in advance smiling smiley
