It would be interesting to verify the results on the just surfaced Berne show.
I heard that DAC and Pignose will issue their title soon and would be a smack to have a better home-made edition.

The VGP release is clear, but a bit nasal sounding. It also lacks dynaic range, which limits what can be done with it. EQ and multi-band dynamics were used to get some range in the frequency, then tube saturation was added to give it some drive.

It's not a definitive improvement over VGP, but it's different and will probably be a matter of listener preference. A few people on here asked about this show so I gave it a go.

Izotope Alloy and Izotope Ozone 4 were used to create the mix. Goldwave 5.58 was used to finalize it.

I like it. It has a more warm, punchier sound to it. Thanks for having a go at remastering it, its my favourite performance from this tour smileys with beer

Would you also consider remastering Satisfaction Guaranteed VGP-136? This could definitely benefit from your work.

Good work. I'd say better than before; sound and voice more clear; in Brown sugar and some other shouted isolated moments, there's maybe a little too much distorsion but I like it more with this improved sound.
Now I'm curious to compare it with the new DAC.
Thanks again.

I'm not sure how much room for improvement there is, but I'll see what I can do. I have the Godfather Records version [G.R.346/347] and it's a clean sbd (I'm listening to it now). Maybe I can tweak the stereo image a bit and add the dreaded reverb module cool smiley...

Thanks! It sounds a bit tiny and could do with a bit more punch. Look forward to hearing the results..

notes:

Stereo image generated with multi-band dynamics. Left channel also had voice matched with high noise, so it's a little more dense.

These mono-to-stereo remasters are a bit of a trade-off: we get a stereo sound, but a lot of times the middle drops out during the process leaving a thinner sound. I tried to offset that with the adjustment to the left channel and the tri-band leveler.

The filters ran in this order:
(1) EQ
(2) Multi-band Dynamics
(3) Harmonic Excitation
(4) Stereo Imaging
(5) Loudness Maximizer

(6) Tri-band leveler (very subtle adjustments)
(7) left channel's voice was maximized with high noise.

Mastered with Izotope RX, Ozone 4 and Alloy.

Thank you very much for doing these, improvements are quite noticeable. Ever had any thoughts in doing Vancouver '72? Always thought the quality was rough but I keep it in rotation because of the rarely played songs. Just throwing it out there, either way your hard work is appreciated. Thanks again.

The source was dull, dull, dull! The bass was de-mudded in Alloy, creating a new mix. The new mix was then run through a chain of edits in Ozone. Dramatic EQ settings were used, as were multi-band dyanmics, exciter, upward expansion.

Mastered with Izotope Alloy and Ozone 4.
Final edits were done in Goldwave 5.58.

Sam, thanks for all these 75/76 tour remasters! I like to compare your remaster to the original and here you have added a brighter more powerful sound. Less muddy.

The songs on this inaugural edition of "(Really) Love You Live" came from responses to several posts about an alternate "Love You Live" album. Not everyone agreed as to which songs belonged on here. So I think a good solution is to just release them by the volume, with say every 2 volumes combining to form a concert setlist.

This first volume is half a show. Vol. 2 will round off the second part of this show. and Vol. 3 will begin another show...And hopefully with enough interest and suggestions from the 1975-1977 live era, we can grow a few concerts out of this.

Most of the songs on here were taken from my remasters/dsp mixes. A few of them were reworked because I was either dissatisfied with the original result, or wanted the sound to be closer to the other tracks on here (nearlly impossible given the various sources).

The setlist is representative of '75-'76, but where necessary, the order of the songs was adjusted so that songs from the same concert sit next to each other.

If you have complaints or additional suggestions, please post them in the forum labeled "Alternative Love You Live" I posted 2 months ago.

I'll get the 2nd part of this set (vol. 2) out by this weekend. I have a good idea about which songs to use, but haven't settled on the versions. Feel free to suggest drinking smiley

enjoy!

UPDATE: track 16 "Luxury" (6-17-75) SBD added to replace AUD version in the original archive.

If you're referring to the right channel of the Bern 1973.09.26 show, it's not static you're hearing. It's just a hiss. It's on the source tape but it's a lot more pronounced on the remaster. I almost de-hissed it with a dynamic lowpass between 6500Hz-12000Hz but decided to just leave the hiss rather than blunt the sound. Sorry if it's irritating, maybe I'll fix it and repost in the future.

Have you considered the Seattle 75 show? It's a burner for sure, though may need some speed/pitch work.

Pepin posted "Luxury" here on this board, in better quality than "We hope Ya like Dis One" and "Missing Jewels".

I *think* DAC included that great Luxury-upgrade on "Little Boys Play With Stones"
So that's the Luxury you should include in your project....not the "muddy SBD source

Great project, by the way. My tracklisting would be somewhat different though. I'd use way more material from 1975, especially from 1st and 5th LA, Seattle, Fort Collins and 1st Boston (the "luxury in Boston" source).
I'd stay clear of July 11th though - apart from "Brown Sugar".
Toronto is great - but I find the 1st half of the concert to be a lot better than the 2nd (the part after Preston's set)
