09 (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

These ALD recordings are not meant to be mixed onto cds. There's random distortion on almost all of them, and this one is no exception (particularly during JJF during which the bootlegger adjusted the levels). This source-based distortion has a distinct sound -- like tearing paper -- and is there to stay. Also the ALD was broadcast at such a low frequency that it bonks out everytime Charlie hits the kick drum...again, there's nothing that can be done about this.

That said, this mix is a big improvement over the source. It was processed in 2 phases:

(1) Sound was compressed using Sound Solution v1.3 to eliminate the broad peaks created by the ALD. This yielded a seperate mix.

(2) The seperate mix then had Reverb, Multiband Dynamics, Harmonic Exciter, Stereo Imaging, and Loudness Maximizer applied to produce the finished mix.

Big thank you to Marko for supplying the EQ'd source!

I mistakenly labeled "2005.11.08" in the ID3v2 info for these files before encoding them to FLAC. I didn't realize until after I uploaded, so be advised the ID3v2 should read "2011.11.06".

yep,it did that,,,but i was eager to test recording anyway, sounds good from PC speakers, but that doesn´t say much, recordings prefer to sound better from PC speakers.

Charlotte-72 was actually brilliant,,and as it is a kicks ass show.

But i also tested your Buenos Aires-98,to my ears it had too much echo,,or is it feedback as you say it?
You don´t hear that from PC speakers, but only from decent stereo speakers.

I will go thru my collection which ones needs to be fixed.

Philly-99 is one 3.15.99!

I know my friend what you´re talking about,i had exactly the same problem when i bought my harman&kardon back in 1995(the bastard still works!!),,i over-did many many recordings, good thing was,it was still audiotape period! and thankfully i did keep all my original tapes untill i got my first standalone burner in 1999.
Then i started to remaster audiotapes onto cdr´s.

Now i have noticed, that some of the recordings from 1999-2003 needs to be worked again, the sony standalone burner records MUCH better sound.

Next my grazy mates,i will upload here Lyon 9.6.1976(SBD&AUD) and that philly-99 show.

Just take your time,,,i just happened to have extra time on thrusday and friday,as they were free days from my school!

2005.11.08 Hollywood Bowl [DSP Mix]
sourced from Marko's remaster
FLAC FORMAT

CD1

01 Start Me Up [4:23]
02 Shattered [4:33]
03 She's So Cold [5:02]
04 Tumbling Dice [4:58]
05 Rough Justice [3:56]
06 Rain Fall Down [5:43]
07 It Won't Take Long [5:09]
08 Bitch [5:01]
09 Night Time Is The Right Time [5:33]
10 Band intro [3:13]
11 Slipping Away [6:56]
12 Infamy [6:03]

CD 2

01 You Got Me Rocking [3:50]
02 As Tears Go By [4:36]
03 As Tears Go By [3:34]
04 Sympathy For The Devil [7:49]
05 Paint It Black [4:54]
06 Honky Tonk Women [4:17]
07 Brown Sugar [5:37]
08 (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction [8:00]
09 You Can't Always Get What You Want [7:24]
10 Jumping Jack Flash [7:49]

The ALD source was processed in the same manner as the Nov. 6 show:

Sound Solution 1.3 to compress, then Izotope Ozone 4 to polish.

The sound on the source was a bit shrill, likely a result of the ALD broadcasting at low frequency modulation.

Thanks to Marko for supplying the source!

1976.06.09 Palaise des Sports, Lyons, FRA [DSP Mix]
sourced from Marko's remaster [DAC-10]
FLAC FORMAT

CD 1:
1. Honky Tonk Women [2:20]
2. If You Can't Rock Me, Get Off Of My Cloud [5:39]
3. Hand Of Fate [4:17]
4. Hey Negrita [4:54]
5. Ain't Too Proud to Beg [4:09]
6. Fool to Cry [5:38]
7. Hot Stuff [4:17]
8. Star Star [4:34]
9. Angie [5:11]
10. You Gotta Move [3:58]

CD 2:
1. You Can't Always Get What You Want [9:56]
2. Band intro [:51]
3. Happy [3:06]
4. Tumbling Dice [4:03]
5. Nothing From Nothing [2:50]
6. Outa Space [3:08]
7. Midnight Rambler [11:20]
8. It's Only Rock'n Roll (But I Like It) [4:02]
9. Brown Sugar [3:26]
10. Jumping Jack Flash [1:33]*

patched JJF, which faded out after a min & a half.

I tried out 2 new apps on this one: Izotope Nectar and Izotope Alloy, which I'll be using in conjunction with Ozone 4 from time to time.

The source had some volume fluctuations and suffered from Mick's vocals being WAY too high in the mix, like a lot of these '76 shows. I sought to correct that with this mix and ended up with a louder, balanced sound.

BTW, does anyone know if this 1976.06.09 show is available in true stereo sound? I used to have a version of this show in crappy mp3 quality and can swear it was in stereo.

The problem with Jaggers voice being too high in the mix has been solved. You can use this remaster for your LYL project ;-)

If you have a remastered version of VGP, that'd be great. No rush though. I'm satisfied with how this version came out and am moving on to a different show.

You're right, they are stereo. I just played a cd-r version of the files I posted and I think I know what happened: I never adjusted the settings on Easy-CD-DA extractor before converting them to FLAC. It's set to 16-bit stereo by default.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll take the "5.1" out of the original post :-)

Sam, could you post or email me the links for 5.1 sound?

In Stereo sounds very well, but think 5.1 should be better!!!

Thanks

Not sure I understand what you're asking. I don't have any 5.1 mix because I accidentally downgraded the files when I encoded them to FLAC.

Or do you mean something else by "links"?

yes i was asking for the 5.1, but well, if dont have no problem, in stereo its good!

MUNICHLAND MELODIES [DSP Remaster]
source: DOG n CAT Records (DAC 088)
FLAC FORMAT

CD 1:

1. Hey Negrita [00:11:24]
2. Melody [00:06:21]
3. Cherry Oh Baby [00:04:46]
4. I Love Ladies [00:04:41]
5. Slave [00:08:48]
6. Fool to Cry [00:05:10]
7. Crazy Mama [00:04:16]

CD 2:

1. Hand Of Fate [00:04:50]
2. Munich Reggae [00:05:11]
3. Cellophane Trousers [00:05:07]
4. Worried About You [00:07:31]
5. Memory Motel [00:07:06]
6. Come On Sugar (aka Let's Do It Right) [00:06:23]
7. Hot Stuff [00:05:03]

notes:

Someone suggested last week that I take a shot at this ragged collection of outtakes. I like the material a lot, but there's not much to be done about the hiss or other imperfections on here. DAC opted not to denoise and it was the right call.

Izotope Alloy was used to balance the sound: just multi-band dynamics and light EQ.

I fixed the last 3 minutes of "Worried About You," which had an annoying phasing sound on the left channel (like a crinkled tape). I used a fast gain update to smooth it out and mixed the right channel in @ 50%.

Notes from Erik Snow (the original uploader) are included in a seperate txt file entitled "MUNICHLAND MELODIES".

Thanks for giving this a shot. These tapes have always sounded odd to me - almost like they are monitor recordings or something. I've always liked the material and think most of it would make a great legit Deluxe version with the long versions of the released tracks and the outtakes.

Not sure if it's an oversight, but you missed I Love The Ladies (Sexy Nite). Only 13 of the 14 tracks.

After a few days of listening, I gotta say these are really pretty dramatic sonic improvements. Paris 1970 was really pretty unlistenable before, but now its rough but quite nice.

I think my favorite from what I have heard is the Pittsburgh 1972 show. That is astounding what you did with that source tape.

I thought Canada Dry was ok, but wow the hiss sure came to the front.

Perth 1973 is a fun improvement. It was a little dry before, but the hint of reverb really makes for a believable listen and a nice mix.

Good job Sam!
